We had one of these at the K9 section when I was in the Air Force, thank god I had a German Shepard mix that weighted 85 pounds. The Boove weighted right around 110 pounds he was huge and the agility that dog had was amazing. We were doing aggressor training one day and one of my fellow dog handlers was in the Bite Suit outside the kennel compound and winding the dogs up he then ran off into the forested area for them to find. The handlers were inside the compound with their dogs, the Boove got so worked up that he broke off his leash and jumped a six foot tall fence with triple strand barbwire above that and went after the decoy. They are amazing dogs.

As soon as she said the breed name I literally yelled out loud oh my god. When I was 8 my Dad thought it would be a great idea to buy a girl from a irresponsible backyard breeder. We loved her but we were in way over our heads. Our yard was too small, my dad didn’t know how to properly train her, and she kept running away to our neighbors yard. My Dad made the hard but right decision to rehome Sedona to a family much better suited for her. Broke my heart then but I understand why he did it now. Thanks for posting this video it’s really nice to see this breed again

ahhh finally a bouvier!!! this was my childhood dog and she was amazing, she was definitely my mom's dog and followed her around the house and my mom always remembers our bouvier as the best guard dog. My dad had to go out of town a lot when my siblings and I were little, and my mom took so much comfort in knowing that our bouvier would not hesitate to protect us and definitely had the strength to because she was a force to be reckoned with ❤ She definitely fit the herding dog stereotype tho and ran circles around my siblings and friends lol, so happy to see this breed featured on your channel 😊
@enlightendbel
@enlightendbel Жыл бұрын
Our first Bouvier would tell us my mom was "about" to come home 5-10 minutes before she actually did. And it wasn't that she'd be home about the same time every day. My moms job had her come home between 4pm and 8pm, highly variable. After understanding what she came to tell us, I started messaging my mom to see about where she was on her route home and it would seem that siting outside, listening to the environment, she was able to pick up my moms car up to 3 miles away if the wind came from the right direction. When my mom got a new car, it took only a month before she was familiar enough with the new car to get back to telling us my mom was about to come home. Bouviers are one of the smartest dog breeds I've ever had and them being so good as guard/police/military dogs comes from how smart they are and able they are to pay attention to their environment to the level of detecting either familiar or strange sounds literal miles away. It's unfortunate that them being so energetic has made them unfavored as family pets, which has hurt an already low population breed even further. They were nearly wiped out during the World Wars and their population still hasn't recovered to a level they have a healthy population.

Bouviers act like curious puppies until they die. And while the average age is 10-12, most of ours got to 14-16. And even at that age, the body may no longer be as willing, but their mind and behavior stays the same.

Nope. Definitely not. Anytime anyone asks the "Do you think this would be a good dog for... (whatever)..." I always dissuade, because if they ask, they haven't already looked into them. They are loveable - to their owners and to whomever their owners "say" are okay. But they are also tremendously strong and they guard and protect before anything else, and they are smarter than any dog breed I've ever met (which can at times be a not so great thing). They use their mouths a LOT, including their front teeth - not to hurt, but to dissuade. Training them is a lifelong activity, as it is for any dog, but for the Bouv, it is really critically important. Gotta go, my Bouv is barking at someone walking by. ;)

My friend had a Bouvier, a blonde variety, and when all us young parents would go to the park with Rusty (the Bouvier), he would herd all the toddlers by running around the 5 - 7 kids pushing their behinds with his snout and using the side of his body to make she none of the kids would get lost lol! It was hilarious to see him herd the toddlers, and the toddlers laughed and giggled, because it was just play to them. Poor Rusty was exhausted at the end of the day. They are very compassionate and loving dogs who want to be with their families.

Many years ago when I was a kid, my family stayed at a Bed and Breakfast on Cape Cod. The family that owned the place had a huge Bouvier. It looked more bear than dog, and it was so incredibly friendly and it definitely didn't know it's own size, because it would jump on me, slobbering me with kisses when we'd come into the house. I can't recall how old I was, but that dog would put it's legs on my shoulders and it towered over me. Such a memorable experience and such a sweetheart.

RIP to Zeus, my brother's beige Bouvier. He lived to just past 10 years and we all loved him. He was a giant lap dog oaf lol. It was 'his job' to care for and herd any kids and grandkids and to run around the pool whenever any of us were in it. However, we were required to splash him with water frequently per his demands. My eldest boy, Coco, (who is now 12), looked like a mini me of him but he is older lol. He was just a good dog. He would only listen to tall people though. My brother, 6', my dad (shrunken lol), 5'10, and me, 6'2.

I had a friend with a Bouv many years ago. Rosie was a working dog and accompanied my friend into bad neighborhoods for protection when he had to pick up medical specimens for transport. Rosie wore a spiked collar when she was working, and you didn't mess with her then. Once that collar came off and she wasn't in protect-mode, she was the sweetest dog you'd ever meet. She'd come around to every staff at the job for pets, then move on to the next person for more pets.

My parents used to take me to local dog shows when I was a kid. I'll never forget meeting a Bouvier who gave me a long, sweet hug with its giant head rested on my shoulder. What I didn't know (but my parents saw) was that another dog had come up behind me, and the Bouvier started fiercely barking and growling to "protect" me. As soon as the dog left, it went right back to resting its head on my shoulder and giving the best snuggles I've ever had. ❤

Over here in Flanders (and most of Europe), couping/docking ears and tails has been illegal for quite some years now and you'll rarely see any that still look like this. Modern Bouviers in Europe have small floppy ears (their natural ears don't get all that much larger than this ones were docked as) and their tails are similar to that of a Golden Retriever, plumed and curved up. I've had Bouviers most my life and they are fantastic dogs. One of the few breeds so smart you can often observe them and see they are just standing there, looking around, observing their surroundings and thinking about what to do next. They are super intelligent, loyal to extremes and like Vanessa said, no clue how strong they are. Most of the ones my family and I had got to 14-16 years old. They are cowdogs, but a good chunk of their existence hasn't been in herding cattle, but drawing milk carts and doing other actual labor, which is probably why they are built like a brick house and ridiculously strong. The reason their tails used to be docked was to make it easier to draw carts. This part of their classic job is part of why they are so ridiculously strong and have energy for days. If you ever get one, start going to puppy school ASAP and for your and the dogs sake, don't stop going until they are at least two years old. And yeah, that white spot on their chest, that's the breeds signature. There's some that have some white in their beard and on their tails too.

This dog reminds me of my Wheaton terrier that passed away last year. Oddly enough one of our neighbors had a Bouvier. Similar coat texture, demeanor, and musculature.The struggle with the constant dirty beard is real! I hope you get a chance to groom one soon!

Yet they are not a terrier breed at all. With the long hair, the similarity depends largely on the cut. Showcased here with a rather general dog cut they look similar but if you let them grow out or cut them like traditional bouvs they don't look as similar.

The announcement at the end was amazing. I'm sure they appreciate your efforts and your fans and followers. $19,000+ WOW!! I've never heard of this breed and yes it reminded me of a Giant Schnauzer and a pit bull?? Looks like a hyper dog or just energetic. And then to show his thanks he left a little present at the end😊😊Dogs are the best!!!

Bouviers with their full "show" type coat don't look like Giant Schnauzers. Many owners who want to keep them cool in summer and have less to brush get them trimmed shorter, like this guy. We had two and they're actually not a hyper dog at all. They're very loyal, loving and playful.😊

we had two bouvier des flandres growing up. A brother and sister. They are a fantastic breed. Lots of fun, incredibly strong. Not a first dog type of breed, but if you have experience with dogs, they are a great option to consider.

When I worked at a doggy daycare there was one Bouvier that came in a couple times a year. Seriously one of my favorite pups I ever met. She was such a goof and I looked a bit like her mom so she would do the happy dance when I would come back and see her. You know when there is a dog you just connect with in your souls. That was her, such a precious lady. I will miss her all my days. ❤

Well socialized Bouviers are really easy to handle. You should take them to puppy class as soon as you can and not stop going to dog school once a week for at least two years. That's why they are often used as police and military dogs. They are hella smart and when trained, very easy to handle. And their energy allows them to be at attention and walk on a leash all day without even getting tired.

It is such a breath of fresh air to see a truly authentic person doing what they love to do and doesn’t have any ulterior motive. You truly do have the animals as your first priority. That is why everyone loves you and why you your channels have blown through the YT ceiling! Thank you for being one of the only genuine people on social media!!! Much love from Oklahoma 🫶🏻🐾🫶🏻🐾🫶🏻🐾

I have watched this video twice now, and I love it! We had to put down our almost 10 year old Bouvier, Leo (short for Leonidas), back in March. Seeing Oakley reminds me of Leo, from the tap dancing to the tail wiggles😂. This is a truly an incredible breed, from their unique personalities to their teddy bear qualities, and I am so lucky that I got to have one in my life. Thank you so much for this video and your channel in general, it never fails to make me smile!

It is called hello and patrasche and has a statue located in Antwerp. “A Dog of Flanders” is a tear jerker of a novel that tells the story of “Nello,” a young Flemish orphan living with his grandfather outside of Antwerp. On their way home from delivering milk one day, the pair encounter a dog that’s been beaten nearly to death. The dog is taken home, nursed back to health, and named, “Patrasche.” He and Nello become inseparable. Loss, poverty, disappointment, cruelty, rejection and hardship weave throughout the plot, and then it really gets sad, but despite its despairing story, a Dog of Flanders has become a classic, particularly in Japan.Written by English author, Marie Louise de la Ramée and published in 1872 under her pseudonym “Ouida,” the novel first became popular after a Japanese diplomat living in New York read about the book in the author’s obituary in 1908. He sent a few copies of the book back to Japan where it not only became one of the best-known children’s stories, but required reading for Japanese schoolchildren. Curiously, no one in Flanders knew the book until the first translation appeared in 1987. When the Belgian Board of Tourism learned of the book’s phenomenal success (largely because Japanese tourists to Flanders kept asking where they could find the sites mentioned in the book), the Antwerp district of Hoboken decided to quickly erect a small statue honoring the story. Japanese visitors complained that the figures didn’t look right to them.
