I want to praise the owners of this Cane Corso for being so responsible as to get their puppy to come to the salon every day for socialisation and getting used to grooming. If you have a powerful dog like this, that is such a good course of action!

Not just these big ones either. I had a wheaten terrier who went to groomers regularly since my sister had gotten him & before he became mine. The groomers taught him well & he'd pull me into there all happy. Then he'd pull me to the car because he was done with it all. Can't blame him. Bathe, haircut, nails cut & ear hair pulling because he was prone to yeast infections. They only do the ear hair pulling on a vets advice. He'd just put up with all of it. He'd even just stand there & let them cut his nails. As for me I got 1 single nail through sheer stubbornness before giving up & saying the groomers can do it. Between his stubbornness & my fibromyalgia it wasn't happening. Still it's far far more important to socialize a big powerful dog like this. Especially with a groomer that's all up in his business. I mean a wheaten terrier is actually pretty big at 55 pounds but nothing this big beautiful boy.

Socialization is good, but it looks like his ears and tail are cropped, which I personally consider inhumane and abusive. He also came in wearing a choke collar, which also hurts the dog.

And even with that socialization Gucci is still a suspicious boi (who only accepts one single groomer). This isn't unusual for Cane Corsos, which is why most people are not fit owners for that dog breed.

I work as a vet tech and when people come by with a new puppy we always invite them to stop by if they're in the neighbourhood, just to come in for a bit, sniff around, get on the scales and get a treat. They tend to be a lot more chill if they don't just associate our place with getting poked and prodded.

Vet nurse here: when we talk about water in the ears causing ear infections, there are really two major risk factors that can turn that into an ear infection. The first is swimming, where they're submerging their ears in the water for long periods of time. The second is floppy ears, such as Cockers or Labradors, where those ears can then hold that water inside the ear long enough for bacteria and yeast to flourish. So unless you're standing there pouring a steady stream of water into their ears for minutes or hours at a time, the risk is minute. You're also correct that we suspect that repeated ear infections can be a sign of allergies, whether food-related or environmental. Allergies are weird. ;)

This is what I always wondered about - how water in a bath caused ear infections but swimming did not (especially given that dogs would be in the water longer when swimming, and lakes etc might have more bacteria in them). These explanations - both commenter and video - make sense.

Can't forget that they're work intensive though. Like most big working dogs, you need to spend a lot of time with them for exercise and training for them to become so relaxed around things they don't enjoy. A lot of people see the end product and underestimate the time needed to get there. But just like with a Mastiff, a Rottweiler, an Ovcharka etc. it all comes down to competent ownership. Well, in fact that applies to all dogs, smaller ones are just not as much of a problem when acting up.

im in the process of making my first role model dog, she is a girl mixbreed lab rottie named Kali, she is 21 months now and i have an 8 yo corso/rottie/lab mix called Shiva who now acts as the role model for the younger one and i find it to be amazing for younger dogs, Kali has learned so much from Shiva at this point, and we are talking things we cant really teach them and they have to figure out for themselves usually, like how to behave around children and elderly for which Shiva (who is btw my emotional support dog and the dog i currently use to help people get over their fear of dogs as she is such a gentle giant) is amazing, while i lived in the city when Shiva was still in her 2 year of life, she'd escort this elderly neighbour to the store and back ever single day and we went as volunteers to the elderly home alot where the residents would take turns petting her and playing with her. I do all the training myself and im not a proper dog trainer (yet) so one might say im just getting lucky with the training but i put in the work and try to educate myself the most i can and try to gain knowledge every day on the topic, from my work to watching and reading about others work, like this girls video is veeery insightfull and she is a super pro at what she does, thats a groomer you want for your dogs, especially if they are anything like mine and would bathe in every single pool river and puddle they can find but when it's shower time there comes the drama, not to even mention nail clipping :D

Such an underrated breed. Never met a breed that loved their owner as much as the Corso. They are absolutely miserable without their family especially without their "person". We had a crate that we left open for ours. The only time he went in it was when I went away. Socialization is obviously very important but I can not stress how much they rely on their family. Mine never expressed separation anxiety but he literally was my shadow. It has been 6 years and there still is not a day I don't think about him. For the first year, I would wake up and talk to him before I remembered he wasn't here. I love to see these videos, exhibiting a very stable, confident, dog. Thank you xx

So sorry for your loss. It sounds like you were blessed with a wonderful pup. I lost my sweet girl, a rescue lab mix, around a year and a half ago, and I still tell her goodnight every night like I always did right before we both fell asleep for the night. She’s still on my mind 24/7. I truly felt like our souls were intertwined, and we were both eachothers whole world. Everything still just feels so wrong without her. Our bond was so special, and the biggest blessing I could have ever asked God for. I only wish they could be with us on earth longer, but I believe one day I will see her again. My heart will be forever broken for her until that day comes though. Gentle hugs to you 💕

Can't understand owners that don't socialize their dog. It's a liability issue for starters and it makes the dog more fun to have around. Had a Wolf/ German Shepherd mix that weighted 122Lb. Did his job as a protection dog when needed but you could trust him with a toddler. Worked him every day and watched him well with kids till I decided they were safe with him. What can you say when your dog gets a hand drawn invitation to Christmas dinner by the preschool and elementary school set when your friends do a group Christmas dinner? Since I won't let him beg they took up a "Collection" for me to give him in his bowel. It amazed me how many vets were scared of him. I just used to give him the shots etc while they watched, never did see him react much other than not liking his temperature getting taken.

@TommyM321 Some types of service dogs are actually required to be larger and sturdier. Mobility dogs serve their owners as walking canes. They usually perform other tasks as well. Think of it this way, it'd be rather inconvenient to need both a dog and a cane all the time, so an animal that can fill both those roles is very helpful to their owners.

You'll have a much happier, healthier and easier to handle/socialise dog with all his parts in tact... Especially when it comes to interacting with other dogs. I wish this was the norm for all dogs. My dog has been attacked by toy breed dogs. Thankfully he never aggressed back. Too often little ones are allowed to be aggressive because they are so small and owners think it is cute. Not all of course. I know many who are lovely.

@@Tori_TLCR When walking my own dog out--shar pei mix that rides the line between medium and large--on walks or hikes or to the park, small dogs are more often the problem. And for that very reason. A cane corso/rottie mix (a MASSIVE boy, lemme tell ya) adopted my dog as his best friend for the day and was incredibly friendly to her. Meanwhile, chihuahuas are always barking and showing aggression at her. (My dog herself has a sort of "do no harm, take no foul" attitude.) There was at least one time I had to be the responsible one and drag my dog away from the impending confrontation while the chihuahua owner just stood there called her own dog (who started it) fiesty.

@Tori_TLCR 2 жыл бұрын
@@elfdragon1227 Too often little dogs aren't well trained or socialized. With larger dogs generally people put in more effort because a large breed dog that's unruly or aggressive is a liability. On walks, when we pass a house, big dogs are often quiet and friendly, the little ones charge the fence and bark trying to start fights. My dog has had little dogs attack and hang off his face by dogs that were off-leash even though the owners knew they were aggressive. It makes me angry because my dog could if he wanted to, seriously hurt their little dog just because of the size and strength difference. Of course I also don't appreciate my dog being attacked, even if it is a small dog, he's my baby. One of my dog's first friends was a Cane Corso, another gentle giant. He's had some small breed friends like pugs and Shih Tzu's that were great as well. If I ever get a Chihuahua or small dog, I'm raising them to be social and doing obedience just as I would a large breed dog.

Also ears aren't cropped, though the tail is. But I still see that he is in the face shape and those eyes. I have 2 Cane Corsos and their golden brown eyes are piercing. And they're so gentle. Goofy sometimes clumsy creatures who just want to learn on you as you pet them. They are weary of strangers and will bark and get all up in their business but will leave them alone after they know they're chill. Before these I've always had bullmastiffs and I think the Corso is a bit more active and protective than the bullies, but that good ol derpy charm is present in all of them.

They're dogs that thrive on open space as do most guard breeds. When they're cooped up they will feel trapped and the only reaction is aggression to try and make people give them space. When you take away that feeling of being trapped most dogs (most not all lol) should be less inclined to attack out of fear.

Sometimes it's very hard to get enough socializing in with the powerful breeds. Everyone wants the cute fluffy pups around, not so much the well muscled, cropped beauties like like this guy! Former Vet Tech here (a well as Doberman & Great Dane owner); I much prefer the really big, powerful dogs. Especially working dogs. Their body language is generally *very* clear, & if you take any warnings or stiffness seriously, you'll do just fine. Most terrifying dog I ever worked with was a Yorkshire Terrier. They are by far the most sensitive souls you will ever meet. The key with them is learning their personalities and respecting their idiosyncrasies,as you would a human. This dog as described has all the traits of the 200 pound baby presently lying under my desk. The only thing larger than a Mastiff’s size is the love they have for their family!

I have a pair of these dogs myself. They are the one of reasons why I converted my downstairs tub into a walk-in shower.

How are yours with kids? Also, did you get a boy and a girl or did you try same sex? Lastly how is the drool?

@@cryptojunkies3619 My boys are litter mates actually. They were trained apart very early and often so they aren't bonded or have "litter mate" syndrome. We can take either or out alone and the other one does not care. They are good with people and kids, but don't know their own size so we keep an eye on them if smaller kids are visiting. My smaller (~115lbs) boy is a people pleaser, but his bigger brother (~125 lbs) is a Daddy's boy and typically only listens to me immediately. If my wife gives him a command, he'll look at me first if I'm in the room. Big/medium size dogs are fine, cats are fine...small dog are NOT fine. Drool is EVERYWHERE. Before I got them, I painted the interior of our house with flat sheen. Since then, I switched to mostly egg-shell just because it's so much easier to clean.

We love the Mastiff, Boxer and Bully breeds. Gucci is an amazing dog. We adopted a rescued Boxer/Mastiff years ago and at 105# he was the biggest dog we’ve ever had but just a gentle giant. We now have 3 “normal” size Boxers, 2 are rescues. We owned English Bulldogs in the past also. All have been wonderful companions. Love your channel ❤

Poor guy. This is like taking Tony Soprano into a beauty salon. He's so patient and with the hoody, his dog friends would never respect him if they saw that. We have to keep it between us humans.

Everyone has done a fantastic job socializing this big boy to the point he seemed bored by the whole thing. I would hate to see him coming at me excited he's huge. Great dog and great video.
