My parent's dog was so dramatic that it took hours for me to groom him. I'll never forget the day I decided to groom him outside because it was so nice out. At some point I was approached by a cop who told me they got a call about someone beating a dog. He parked up the street to observe and after awhile he could clearly see that I was not hurting him in anyway. He came up to explain things and left, laughing loud,!😂

As a retired dog groomer, some people don't understand how physically hard and mentally draining it is. Ive got rheumatoid arthritis and 22 years of back pain, that I had to retire. Sarcastic jokes help us get through the hard pups LOL. It was the most rewarding job and I loved and miss all my clients. FYI To those pet parents who come early to pick up their dogs, or watch them get groomed. PLEASE DONT. It makes the dogs more nervous and makes them not want to cooperate with the groomer. I love all your videos.

Yes DEf I’m a new dog groomer and I’m just the bather, dryer and brusher. My boss handles haircuts. I’ve been struggling with properly washing the dog and I’m not sure what to do. I’ve tried all the tricks they gave me but it isn’t working. Any recommendations?

I’m also a new groomer, I’ve been doing actual haircuts for about 2 months now. When I started bathing I would soak the dogs a lot with water, get all under the coat then soap them up and add a little more water to get a good lather going and scrub like heck, rinse add the conditioner if they’re getting some and rinse that really really well. Dry them briefly with a towel (that’s what we do at my salon) really focusing on their legs, face and undercarriage (belly) then dry, I always start with their back and sides then legs then face since usually dogs usually hate their face being dried. That’s why towel drying those areas first makes it easier in my opinion because by the time you get to the face after drying everything else it will have already started air drying. Hope this helps. 😊

Please don’t drug your dog, you need to find the right groomer that might be willing to do some fear free training, and maybe between the both of you, your dog can learn that the groomer is not going to hurt the dog. Believe me it can be done. You also as a pet parent have to work with your dog at home. It takes lots of training. Good luck 👍

I thought they were supposed to be good dogs, highly intelligent. But my sister got a golden doodle (who’s she’s convinced will eventually be the best dog) and she’s wild. Lately, she’s taken to running in circles around my two young kids, then stopping to bark in their face, and repeat. She also jumps and nips, so it’s not without some danger. My kids are pretty nervous around dogs so it’s sucks that she doing this. They had actually been gaining confidence with dogs until her. Yesterday my kids were trying to be brave and laugh her off, but after a bit, it had my 5 year old son in tears. And she sure as hell won’t listen to me when I attempt to stop her.
@Sherry-jn5zn
@Sherry-jn5zn Жыл бұрын
@@katelynnehansen8115 it sounds like your sister's dog needs more guidance & work to do. Training has to start as soon as a puppy comes home and if puppies are not given enough mental & physical stimulation (especially an active & intelligent breed/breeds) they are crazy because they're literally bored to insanity. And personally, I just don't understand why people keep breeding doodles of any sort. Supposedly it's for shedding purposes but once you cross breed there is no guarantee. I'm sorry your children are so impacted by the dog, I do feel for them. Has your sister considered training classes for her dog? A lot places like PetCo & PetSmart offer them. They do help & can help the puppy interact better with everyone. Best of luck 🤞

@MiuXiu
@MiuXiu Жыл бұрын
@@your1supporter you asked, so very long comment incoming: Because the majority of people impulse buy without realizing how much hard work goes into taking care of them. The amount of neglected, untrained, horribly anxious, aggressive, matted doodles I’ve had to shave is too dang high.. I’ve shaved matted dogs that had cockroaches that died in their mats, small children’s toys that got lost in the mats, seen huge open infected wounds under mats that weren’t visible until shaved because of how severe the matting was. And they’re SOOO high energy and SO huge, mix that with people that already don’t train their dogs enough, or at all, to begin with and it’s just a complete nightmare. Dogs end up in severe pain and get terrible infections because of how terribly matted they are, groomers have to deal with a giant misbehaving dog that is impossible to control trying to get them shaved so they aren’t in pain anymore. People just want dogs as a prop that loves them unconditionally without putting any work in, which is already horrible to begin with, and then they get the worst possible breed for that. And so many of the breeders lie to buyers- probably 90% of doodle owners I dealt with all said the breeders told them they don’t require any brushing or grooming, they’re hypoallergenic, they’re naturally well behaved, don’t need exercise etc etc etc... all lies. The majority of people are lazy, it’s just a fact. People need to stop getting these dogs if they aren’t prepared for the work that goes into it or just don’t want to do that much work. Daily intense brushing all over (not just a couple brush strokes over the back like most people do), running a few miles every day, constant training sessions, expensive grooming appointments every 6 weeks... the list goes on and on and on. Personally I think it is also terrible that people are even breeding “mini” doodles but it’s not my choice to make for other people, you can do what you want. A toy poodle and a golden retriever breeding is just not natural and is just human arrogance and selfishness. Again just my personal opinion. And having a small version of the dog doesn’t make it any easier despite what people might think or what they may hear from breeders. If you really want a small fluffy dog, there are great breeds that exist for that purpose already. Toy poodles are great, bichons are adorable, Maltese, any of the y-poo mixes like shihpoo maltipoo etc. People really REALLY need to stop getting dogs that are mixed with working breeds if they want a fluffy lap dog. Working breeds need a job. I’m just really tired of seeing so many people get dogs for selfish reasons and then do nothing to enrich the dogs life out of pure laziness- and breeders heavily take advantage of that. Especially with expensive breeds that people went out of their way to purchase. It happens far too often and I’ve seen far too much neglect- sometimes out of complete ignorance and unintentionally, but most of the time it’s because the novelty of having a cute dog that they wanted after seeing it on social media wore off and the laziness kicked in. Far too many doodles end up in a situation where they have to be regularly shaved completely short all over and sometimes the poor things have to be drugged to be groomed at all because they’re so anxious and high energy and people weren’t prepared for it and never train their pet. All because someone got a dog on impulse and didn’t want to take responsibility and do the work. Like at that point the owner should have just purchased a Lab or any other short haired retriever and saved the poor dog from misery. If you are really that set on wanting a mini doodle just be prepared and plan to completely change your lifestyle for the dog and plan to spend a lot of money on upkeep. Probably one of the most high maintenance breeds out there. They absolutely can be great dogs if raised right in the right household- but it’s rare for that to happen honestly.

I used to own a shih tzu and it did require work but it was worth it and a few others that didn't require daily brushing but still required plenty. People legitimately do not understand that having a dog is like having a child. They require food, shelter, discipline, regular Vet. visits, the groomers, dog sitters, toys, physical and mental stimulation, etc. Thank you for your response 🥰

Our old standard poodle broke his groomer’s collarbone once while being groomed. They were trimming his nails and he donkey kicked her into a wall (for the record, standard poodle really doesn’t capture how large this dog was. He was gigantic, the size of a Great Dane. He used to take naps on top of our washer/dryer and on our kitchen table. Just monstrously large for a poodle.) Anyways, long story short, he got an F on his report card and they had to give him something that would make him sleep before they would work on him in the future.

I didn't know a poodle could get that big! I like poodles and I love big dogs more, so I hope I find one that big in a shelter someday. Behavioral problems at the groomer's aside, that sounds perfect for me.

@@mizukiyume5978 Aw, im sorry to hear that :( My dog was like that at first, eating everything and biting everything and everyone. With firm training and alot of time, he's much better, though it still can be a struggle occasionally. If you are concerned and you have access to an obedience class or something similar, that would probably be the best option-theyll help you learn how to work with and train your puppy. If you don't have that option, then you will have to be very firm and consistent. You can't let him chew on you sometimes but not others. For biting people, I would give my dog a firm "No" and just leave if he continued. Eventually, he learned that he can't play with me if he's going to bite me. With eating things off the ground, I would again be firm and remove him from the situation if he won't leave it. You could also, when he is in an aggressive mood, try to redirect his attention into training or a walk. Beyond that, he calmed down due to being neutered and growing up a little. Him at 3 acts like almost a different dog than him at 1! He just had to mellow out

My doodle had a rough first groom. I told her I would be near by if she needed help. I was called two minutes later. She had the water way to hot, after that he was done with her. I worked with him for a year, diy grooming. I took him to a different place and he was great for them. All dogs can be trained, and it is not the groomers job. The groomers job is to be kind and quick.
@janemonroe7547
@janemonroe7547 Жыл бұрын
Im sorry to say.... it is the groomers job to properly train and teach and talk to the dog for grooming process and let them know its going to be ok. Just as a pet parent calms there dog or talks to them the groomer should and always do the same. That is why they are getting high dollar and paid to be professional at their service just as a child dentist talks to the kid letting them know its ok and what they are doing every step of the way. The groomer should do the same. As for mine i have taught and trained for over 15+yrs i learned that from day 1 with working with a scared dog who had been mistreated by other so called professionals for many years was taught to not like certain parts not being touched or handled it sure does take lots of patience, love and time not quickness and irritation. If a so called pet care provider cant handle every dog, depending on behavior and personality etc. They should not be a groomer. Most dont last over 5 to 10 years bcz they are weak and irritable souls who just did it for money and not for the love of dogs.

@@angellittle1571 yes indeed teach a dog to scratch on sandpaper and let them set the terms.
@angellittle1571
@angellittle1571 Жыл бұрын
Start little with just associating the clippers with good stuff. Like, put them out to sniff and reward (with food! It takes a lot, so it's waaay healthier for them than treats; use actual treats as a high value reward/association) for initially sniffs and nose touches. (If you have a clicker, even better, it'll help it everything catch faster -"charge" it first by click-then-treat a few times-) Take them out regularly where he can see them, but don't do anything with them, don't make a big deal out of it, just bring them out for a while and then put them away; it'll help minimize the association with clipping/trimming. (If you use a rotary, you may need to switch to something without a motor. I had a dog who was permanently terrified of those, but she was fine with clippers.) Moving up, hold a piece of food in your fingers but take your time letting him actually grab it (like let him lick it and pull at it, but stretch it out so the actual grab is the reward) and literally just lightly tap/touch with the clippers while you're holding it. When you take them away, he can have the piece (and vocal rewards, he's being a good boi!) And basically just work your way up to the clips. You can go from touches to taps to just lightly catching a nail on your tool (the teeth/grit of a file or any of the edges of clippers) to just tipping or fully clipping just one nail and stopping to more to all. And this is when to bring out the treats! The high-value reward only at the end of his nail appointment keeps it high-value. Overall it's a commitment, but it works wonders! And as I otherwise commented, you can try doing playful scratching on sandpaper! You can make an easy scratcher with just the sandpaper on the inside wall of a bucket and teach him to scratch his nails on it, which completely changes the situation in his mind and turns it into more of a game and brainwork. Dobermans are brilliant and those brains need a lot of exercise, so he might take to it pretty well! Alternatively, physical exercise on hard grit surfaces like rock/concrete/asphalt will also help keep nails trimmed down. (Or even like my weirdo, he only has to have his front claws clipped because he trims his back ones himself with his teeth! XD)
