Such a thoughtful topic Gita madam. I got tears when I heard "a single mom will take care of ten children, but ten children cannot take care of one mom". My mom always wants us to talk to her daily. Initially, I did as a duty bound task. Later on, I understood her expectation, love and anxiety.. I started doing it with all love. Around two years back, I got an opportunity to serve my mom when she was affected by sciatica (a nervous problem) as my girl was in pre school only. She still works and thinks for us always.. her working experience is in the 40th year now. Still one year and above to go.. She is certainly an inspiration to us!! As you say , my girl shares such a wonderful bond with my parents.. in fact, I get overwhelmed by the love they have for my daughter. Thanks for making me feel all these all over again Gita madam. Stay blessed!!

Good morning, Gita ji, lovely video as always. This video is packed with very valuable pointers. Your kind and heartfelt pleas to treat the elders with respect and love is so on target. Thank you for sharing. One suggestion you touched on and I would like to expand is always keep a complete list of their current medications, name, dosage, including schedule handy so it can be shared at the hospital or doctors office as needed. As you mentioned they may forget so we have to support them in these small ways. Thank you again.

When you have self sufficient, independent old-age parents life is good. But, the moment life becomes hard for every small activity and that's when care takers life becomes miserable. Not that they don't love them, but managing things and expenses becomes a challenge. That too, in certain cases life is simply dragged on and on, for years. As our philosophy says getting Moksha at right time is also a blessing. It's sad to see many old age homes coming up. Don't know,how painful it could be to live in a unknown place, leaving their own comfy dwelling. Being human is very important and giving all support system too.
@jyothimcminn4315 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your concern and nice pep talk...but reality is striking us at the door of independence...anxiety of growing old...the inability to do simple tasks..and most of all living alone in the home. The gap of different health issues. It is up to the children of a family on how to care...jointly and providing all the care...comfort and expenses for the last part of journey on life. It is a dear topic for many children across the globe...some countries provide a variety of options of living so each parent lives his or her life to the fullest...unfortunately India is way down the ladder...very few are visible...and more to the mercy of the children...than a caring environment for them to live in Peace.
@GitasKitchen5 жыл бұрын
I think it is not so much about which part of the world, but more about the values a nd culture one has grown up with. Yes, this topic has to be addressed and we do see a number of Senior citizen communities coming up in India too.

Hello Gita aunty, superb video. I live with my in-laws only. As you said, they are just like kids and I try and treat them like how I treat my daughter taking care of their mood swings and understanding their needs as much as I can. If each family has an elderly and intelligent person like you to show a right path, it would be really great. Take care of your health aunty. You think from the perspective of younger generation as well which is a great quality of yours. You are so genuine. Lots love and pranams to you and uncle.Kavitha Gopal

Sairam Geetha is so true. My father did property so my mother lives safely. Today my mom is 89 and in death bed. My brother and his wife send her out to my sister. Even taking every penny. Only one son. One who does not care for parents sure to be going through hell here not after death. Your mother in law may not be here but her blessings are with you she is watching . Who we are today is their sacrifice not ours. I have decided since I don't have kids but coming back to my country and help parents whom people have abandoned because I did not getting chance now. Hats of to you.

Mam I don't have parents so I thought I will treat my in-laws as parents, but I found that they are more interested in money than care from children. They like son who can take them to 5 star hotel but behave rudely with them, but they will insult their children who are not very rich. Mam the story is same as that of the book ”Dollar Bahu" by Sudha Murthy.

It is not easy to understand or change the attitude of certain people Bindu. What is important is that you should not give up your positive and kind nature. Surely, one day they will understand reality. I appreciate your sincere efforts.

Feels so bad i value parents a lot but it is unfortunate that both my parents and in laws give priority only to the son or daughter who has financial security they will bear insult from them and accept their rudeness just because of money and people look down upon us as we r bad son or daughter to our parents of in laws.
