the reason why you weren't allowed to use Guidance when reading the book is because those were saving throws, not skill checks. Guidance helps with skill checks only. The cantrip which helps with saving throws is called Resistance and is exclusive to clerics ad druids

If u want guaranteed surprise on enemies, start combat while invisible. You have a scroll of summon quasit. There’s a way to make it a permanent summon, look it up if you’re inclined. I won’t spoil it, but they can be used for invisible surprise attacks.
@immersioneer9 күн бұрын
Hmm, ok, we’ll think about this, thanks!
@IsilionNELE8 күн бұрын
I don't think rogues can make it permanent summon, you need specific classes for that

Sometimes you get stealth checks when you attack out of stealth, so combat doesn't start if you succeed them.
@immersioneer7 күн бұрын
Hmm, interesting - I thought taking any actions automatically puts you out of stealth and invisibility…
@mystery_machine42446 күн бұрын
I am pretty sure that's wrong. If you make a ranged at full range, out of the enemy's vision cone, then you won't instantly get pulled into combat, allowing you to deal some damage before combat starts, or potentially kill them
@immersioneer6 күн бұрын
@@mystery_machine4244 Could very well be so, I never paid attention to it as I was certain you lose stealth as soon as you attack. Need to pay attention to this next time!

I think they weren't surprised the one time, because they were ready to parry.
@immersioneer7 күн бұрын
But I think ready to parry just lets them reduce a hit by 10 damage, not negate surprise… It was a weird fight, I have to say…
@alexmashkin8639 күн бұрын
Great fight despite all the weirdness :-)) You did cheese it a bit, but it's in character and using in-world means, so all is good :-)
@immersioneer9 күн бұрын
I don’t think we cheesed at all, no? Other than running to camp, but that was fair as the game kind of glitched on us :/
@alexmashkin8638 күн бұрын
@@immersioneer It didn't glitch per se, I commented more in depth on Mike's video. But yes, as I said, you used in-world means, lore friendly, so I have zero problems there. Cheesy part for me is due to computer game limitations, you killed one, disappeared for a minute and then you reappear they're no more alert, not searching, nothing and you're able to surprise them.
@IsilionNELE8 күн бұрын
In my experience, the enemy getting surprised depends on how far away you are from the target. Additionally, spells seem to require you to be closer to trigger the surprise round than if you were attacking with a ranged weapon. Ever since I made that conclusion I have been consistently getting surprise rounds when I attack from close by. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I think not.
@immersioneer6 күн бұрын
Hmmm… you think distance plays a role? That’s good to know. I need to look this up on some wiki as we keep getting caught out by this…
@IsilionNELE6 күн бұрын
@@immersioneer I don't know if this will be on the wiki, since most people are still puzzled by the exact triggers, but distance is what is consistent with my personal experience. It could still be something else, of course, because I tend to initiate combat in the same way every time, so perhaps some other variable I unknowingly keep constant. Now, as for your combat with the gith patrol, it not triggering a surprise round was caused by something else entirely. I read this in someone else's comment, so I take no credit for spotting this. To trigger a surprise round the attack must be made from stealth or invisibility, and that's where things went wrong. The first attack, an arrow of ice, didn't start combat because the rogue succeeded his stealth check and didn't get detected. But the attack still took him out of stealth, as attacks always do. So the next attack, throwing the bomb, was not done from stealth and thus started combat without surprise
@immersioneer6 күн бұрын
@@IsilionNELE Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, that actually makes perfect sense! Basically, now that our stealth checks are really good, we need to be mindful of whether we are still in or out of stealth after the first attack. I think because we always went into turn based mode before we initiated the fight, we just assumed we were out of stealth after the initial attack. I'll make sure we think about this when we open up in our next combat (tomorrow's episode has already been recorded, so we'll do this from Monday onwards).

I’ve never used them in single-player so I have no idea what they actually do to you. Findon’s opinion is that he’a gotten this far in life without tainting himself with this kind of nonsense and he is not about to start now. Nothing good can come out of this, no matter how tempting it might be. Findon just knows better…

I haven’t really followed the patch notes on BG3, so I’m not very well informed on the mod support. I think it’s coming later down the line, right? I’m all for it and I’m sure the community will come up with some amazing stuff. I’m mostly looking forward to any new mini-adventures!
