Ex-atheist here:) I became atheist after being taught evolution in honors history class @ age 15. For 7 years I went from being angry with God, to depression as an atheist not knowing the meaning of life since it is meaningless if all we did was evolve from whatever they claim today. Then it was monkey to man. What I found is, God is totally ready to answer anyone (even an atheist) if and when we seek Him and let Him. I then asked this One what Truth was? What religion if any was He into. Within a year, reading the gospels as you say, I wanted to know this One Jesus, but didn't see how that was possible. Sure enough He showed Himself to me after I one night simply "trusted" Him in a step of faith. It's been many years now, but He is faithful through it all. God bless you for sharing with young people as you do. I would have been drawn if I heard you. :)

@bonnie43uk7 жыл бұрын
@Whit U, could you give an example of how you think Christians misrepresent Christ?
@invisibleinkling14747 жыл бұрын
bonnie43uk... 1. Some who call themselves Christians, for example, commit crimes or grossly sin against God and each other, which is self-explanatory, if you're aware of what the scriptures say (eg: the ten commandments). 2. Those who promote the gospel of health, wealth and prosperity (eg: Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Joel Osteen, etc.) are called Word-Faith teachers, twisting the meaning of the scriptures. 3. Cults like Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses use the name of Jesus, but don't teach Jesus is God, as He claimed to be (again, twisting scriptures and adding false doctrines that the Bible does not teach). 4. Many also use the name of Christ for personal gain, such as the father of the boy in the book/movie titled: Heaven is for Real. The boy, now older, claims that his father exploited him for profit. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. This is why it's important that we not believe everything we are told, that we read the Bible for ourselves, in context, and in consideration of the purpose, culture and time of historical events written therein.
@bonnie43uk7 жыл бұрын
@Whit U. Ah, ok, it's good to be in agreement with you on most of what you wrote, I totally agree with you about people like Copeland, Hinn and others, they are totally exploiting people for monetary gain. And I agree with you that Mormonism and Jehova's witness are cults. . I'm sure you would vehemently disagree with me though if I told you I think Christianity is also a cult. Albeit a huge global cult, split up into hundreds of smaller cults. If we define a cult as : A social group defined by their religious, spiritual and philosophical beliefs, then I think Christianity fits in neatly into that bracket. You made an interesting point about reading the bible in context, one of the problems is that as humans we are incredibly diverse in our thinking , how we view what comes off of the written page differs wildly, some people will take a passage literally ( as in Lots wife being turned into a pillar of salt), and others will view it as poetic licence. I'm fairly certain that my reading of page 1 of Genesis will not agree with how you view it. I was discussing this with a person here in these comments the other day regarding Gen 1:16, concerning God making 2 great lights, I was telling him that moonlight is simply the Sun's reflection, he was adamant that the moon had it's own light system and that Gen 1:16 was absolutely correct.
@invisibleinkling14747 жыл бұрын
bonnie43uk ...Agreed, for the most part. I don't believe that Genesis was ultimately meant to define science for us, but that it is the foundational history of the the relationship between God and man and how it all started so that we can better understand how we ended up so deprived today. I haven't found any real science that contradicts the Bible's claims, but like you said, one can easily interject his/her own understanding into it. Studying the original language and the meaning of the words used can help clear things up. In countries where everyone owns a smartphone and a computer, access to technology and reference tools gives us no excuse for sloppy interpretation, especially on important topics like the origin of life, God's existence, science, archaeology, philosophy, etc. It's important to be a thorough, fair and responsible investigator of whether there's a God, whether life has intrinsic value and meaning, what God (if He exists) want us to know, what should we do with what we know, and what the result will be of what I tell others (especially in a lazy, gullible, "fast-food" age). This is why I so appreciate intellectual honesty, like you've just displayed. But I loathe when people don't take life, themselves or others seriously and drag others with them into a pool of lies, deceit, cowardice and vices. Some will never know what it means to take the less travelled road or explore the answers to life's questions because they've been programmed to take the easy, fun, pleasurable path. Anyone can do that.

I enjoy watching Cliffe's video's and I always tend to side with the students who he debates, their arguments tend to make much more sense to me. These comment discussions are just an extension of the things Cliffe and the students chat about. I'm 58 and male ( i get the odd comment about my name and occasionally get mistaken for a female, that is my fault for choosing the name bonnie I guess.. it was simply a name of a song I liked, I've had that name for over 15 years now and have no wish to change it.). If there is anything you want to ask me about my disbelief I'll be happy to answer. So if He doesn't deal with the other Nations, then they are not subject to God's laws, Am I crazy for saying that, no listen what Amos 3:1-Here this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O Children of Israel, notice that He said I children of Israel He didn't say anybody else, He said I children of Israel, against the whole family which I bought up from the land of Egypt,saying, You only have I Known, of all the families of the earth, God Is saying I don't know these other Nations of people, I don't care about them, but because I know you, and I gave my laws statues and commandments to you, you're the one I'm going to punish for your sins. @ev21753 жыл бұрын
@@Blackhebrew01 Well the writer of the psalm says that. That God has done this for no other nation, that they do not know his laws. This makes you ask the question, why? And if you read from genesis up to that point you see how God honours His promises with Abraham and his descendants, so it isn’t an issue of favouritism per se. Additionally it doesn’t mean that God would never deal with others nations, don’t twist what you read or make it to appear one way when that isn’t the point being made. Also, in the New Testament we are shown that Gods purpose was for everyone to know Him and he shows us this by the fact that he wants everyone to know the good news (the gospel). So, to insinuate from a psalm written at one point in time for a specific purpose, that God doesn’t want to deal with the rest of creation is kind of messy. I don’t think that train of thought is logical.

This is exactly why I have been saying for years that we need an introduction to logic course, and maybe a philosophy course, as a core curriculum class. Apart from maybe language, not one other skill is as important or as commonly needed as a foundational logic. People are progressively being brought up in what’s been previously termed as “scientism” -the idea that science can’t be wrong - and it couldn’t be further from the truth. This infallibility idea is corrupting the lenses that people look at the world with, and it’s only becoming more dogmatized as time progresses.

They take evolution as fact and will claim it to be proven true, e ery time. This is a partial truth. Adaptation and natural selection happen, but the common ancestor does not. Dogs make dogs,, cats cats, humans humans and so on for all recorded history. We don't see any Significant new species, only small changes within kinds. The problem is this becomes no longer science but historical guessing when we say because there is diversity then everything must have come from each other. It's like finding a wet noodle and then saying it came from a dry noodle, ok fine. But then saying that boiling water turned into a dry noodle and is a common ancestor. It's a big reach, with the fuzzy factor being millions or billions of years and lack of complete fossil evidence to explain it away. But truly it's a convenient way to dismiss God. Then one can argue all day about evidence and evolution instead of what really matters, rational thought, morality, and purpose. Because if evolution us true you are just a meat bag. A cosmic mistake and when you die you will no longer exist and the only reason you are alive is meaningless in the grand scheme of evolutionary death. There isnt live nor hate nor anything wrong or right. It all just is. You are a random gathering of cells cursed with self awareness, but there is no self. Its a fleeting feeling that you are real at all. There is no reason to be good. Take what you can without being caught, dupe as many people as possible, there is no real truth or justice just whims of an advanced apelike species, so live like it.

I'm not a fan of when Cliffe allows questioners to constantly bring up the Crusades, Inquisitions and other alleged acts of Christian violence and hypocrisy. He doesn't do a good job of cutting through the fallacies and historical illiteracy: Such events had very little to do with actual teachings of Christ and were instead power grabs by men under the cloak of following faith and religion. The Inquisition in particular was about expanding and consolidating Roman Catholic power: It had virtually nothing to do with actual faith teachings. Same for the Salem Witch Trials. The Crusades, unless one is a total historical illiterate, was largely Christian defensive actions against centuries of prior Islamic aggression and belligerence. Basically, these are just poor examples brought up by people who don't have a solid historical understanding.

Is Cliffe getting better or what ? Our purpose as saved people, is to do unto others as was done unto us, in the best possible way. We got saved remember. Therefore with our care and love for others we have the duty of spreading the good news, because others spread it to us. The gospel quenched our thirst and gave us peace. What are we if we do not offer living waters to the thirsty. 1Peter 2:9 But Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people, that Ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light. I wonder if those of us as students, I include myself who is 70'in May, who watched Cliffe the teacher would have become effective at soul winning without his example? We teach and preach to save souls. We are allowed the privilege of assisting God by pointing the people to Him. We are pointers. We tell them when they ask us why we do what we do, that we do it because they are unaware of why they have been born. They know not why they are here. Yes it's true, we are here to love and serve God and our fellowman. But loving and serving God and our fellowman is the outworking of our purpose which is to gain our inheritance from God of everlasting life in heaven.

To the first girl who walked away, some people will put up a guise as their reasoning being rational when most times its either emotional or volitional. I think it’s more emotional with her and maybe somewhat volitional cause she seems to be hurt by her upbringing. He tried to reason with her philosophically, and it wasn’t resonating. When it’s emotional no amount of logic, evidence, or reasoning will reach that person. It will all sound like nonsense especially if the person is not looking to reason, and pretend its based on rationality.

Hope you don't mind me butting in. Repentance is the realization that we have failed in our mission to live the way God designed us to and have rejected him. Repentance happens naturally and cannot be forced. When you truly accept that Christ is who he said he was, it happens. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and we feel it and want to stop. You may hear some people say repentance means to stop sinning and never doing it again. Although you will get a new heart that wants to please God and stop sinning, we can never be perfect in our behavior. That is why Christ suffered and died for us. He had to pay the cost for all our sin. But Christ is faithful in that if we confess our sins to Him, He will is faithful to forgive us. Hope that helps..

Isn’t it awesome how an 18 year old girl has everything worked out? Her extensive life experience can’t even get her to where she understands the point that Cliffe is making. It’s either that or she just simply doesn’t want to see his point because once you verbalise that a point has been made, you need to deal with it as an actual option.

I know a bit about the United Methodist Church in the USA having married a young woman about this girl’s age when I graduated from college. Methodists don’t believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, and now they believe it contains contradictions and errors. They teach hell & Satan are concepts or analogies to convey the difference between right & wrong, good & evil. They intertwine Evolution & Deep Time with Christianity, and develop what I would consider a False Gospel. Jesus is taught to have been a highly “evolved” and enlightened teacher, and certainly not God, born of a Virgin. This runs contrary to the gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Therefore, it is not surprising how this young woman has turned away from a false religion.
@stewwweee2 жыл бұрын
Methodist church isn't a sound doctrine church . Most of the Western Christians stopped teaching the kids about gospel where as we in Asian Christians are persecuted for following Christ and we are more strong in Christ than we ever now. We take Jesus Christ more seriously than anything in life.

I would love to converse with Cliffe Knechtle about the Trinity doctrine. He is very intelligent and as he says in this video, be skeptical! The Trinity is one of those doctrines that historically has deep rooted problems. I would love to see if Cliffe will continue being honest and face the overwhelming evidence against this Roman Catholic foundation. I have had a little online discussion with Dr. Reeves. I also have done several videos on Dr. Reeves and his University teachings.
@larryluch81783 жыл бұрын
The Trinity is impossible to grasp by a limited human intelligence. But that’s no reason to disbelieve. Belief in God Who exists from eternity is a similar difficulty. As close as l can get to having some insight into the Blessed Trinity is the human family. We are created in the image and likeness of God according to Genesis. ThAt image is best seen in family. None of us is entirely independent. We are part of a family, 3 in One. We are individuals, yet we cannot exist but for our mother and father. All of nature mirrors the Trinity to us.Biblical interpretation is difficult. This is seen in a fractured Christianity. That is why Jesus left us a Church to interpret properly and define doctrine. He didn’t leave us to wander in a mist, trying to interpret the Bible. He left a church to guide us . Blessings
@approvedofGod3 жыл бұрын
@@larryluch8178 The bible is of no private interpretation. What that means is that it can be understood by the common man. Professing a Trinity that is still a mystery and difficult to grasp is not coming from scripture. It is coming from philosophy, and allegorical interpretation. Here lies the confusion!
@larryluch81783 жыл бұрын
@@approvedofGod Understood by the common man? Why then is there such debate around so many doctrinal issues? What did Jesus mean when He said: Unless you eat My Flesh and drink My Blood you shall not have life within you.? Catholics and Orthodox take it literally but most other Christians do not. In Gen1v26 God says: Let us make man in our own image. Plural. All nature is trinity , the image and likeness of God. So some things we just have to accept as beyond our full understanding. That’s why He’s God and we His creatures. Blessings
@approvedofGod3 жыл бұрын
@@larryluch8178 Nonsense Larry. The bible is simple. It is men who add or take away from scripture, that brings confusion and division. "Unless you eat my flesh . . ." is Jesus speaking "spiritually." Just keep on reading and you find; "the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63). The same goes for Genesis 1:26. Follow the text and see that 1:27 is disproving a plurality of divine persons. Go to the actual place where God created man and then woman, and you see only one God person. See Genesis 2:7, 21, 22. God alone created Adam and Eve. John 6:63 Gen 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Isa 44:24 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; God said "by myself!"
@larryluch81783 жыл бұрын
@@approvedofGod Speaking spiritually? That would certainly make life much simpler . I wonder why Catholics and Orthodox have believed otherwise for 2000 years? One of the most recent Eucharistic miracles took place in Buenos Aires in 1996. Thorough lab scrutiny of the miraculous specimen confirms Catholic/Orthodox belief. Not to believe in the Trinity means Jesus is not God. That puts you outside the Christian tradition. Islam and Jews teach God but not the Trinity. The Bible can be used to teach many things but only the Catholic Church has the authority from Jesus to go ye therefore teach all nations . Jesus establishes one church, not thousands preaching and teaching a variety of doctrines. Our Savior desires clarity, not a babble of voices confusing people. So as you can see l have submitted my intellect to the doctrine of the Catholic Faith. Ave Christus Rex

The last guy, I would have pointed out that evolution cannot explain how life began. We can't even build a living cell yet, not without hundreds of processes being handed to us from a prior production-level process and our lab conditions being prestine, if at all. Ref: James Tour. Evolution is within a bigger picture; first chemistry and ultimately physics, so the Bible can be reconciled with this. There's every possibility that this is how God created life. Whatever begins has a cause. The universe began to exist. Ref: William Lane Craig, Michael Behe and Stephen Meyer. And before you start throwing stones, to the above point, there are now different theological perspectives on the whole Adam & Eve thing and how these biblical figures sit with the Mitochondrial Adam & Eve, for which, the latest studies show that they not only lived much closer to each other than what was previously thought but, potentially, these could well be THE Adam & Eve, from biblical texts. Ref: William Lane Craig and Josh Swamidas.
