Hi Christopher, yes indeed, Cliffe did repeat some things concerning a historical Jesus. But it is a fact that not a single person that we know of wrote about Jesus during his life and ministry. Everything written about Jesus was written decades after his supposed death. We're told that the gospels are an historical record of Jesus. I'm not that convinced by these miraculous stories of him.
@ethancathrow9756
@ethancathrow9756 7 жыл бұрын
I may as well put my 2 cents in. Regarding His death, the majority of both secular and religious historians and scholars all agree that Jesus did die. Look up Bart Ehrman on Jesus' death, since people always refer to him when trying to disprove Christianity. Not a single person that we know of? Then who was Clement, Bishop of Rome referring to when quoting the Gospels in 95 AD and who was Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch referring to when quoting 25 of the 27 NT books in 115 AD? Paul wrote 1 Corinthians circa 55 AD. In 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, he writes: "For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also." Now, what are the scriptures Paul is referring to here that talk about Jesus and His Resurrection and His death and Him appearing to the disciples? THE GOSPELS! And since Paul says "as the scriptures...", in plural, that is very good evidence that shows more than 1 of the Gospels were written before Paul wrote 1 Corinthians. Its a fact no one wrote of Jesus during His lifetime? According to who? What proof do you have that documents this? I know for a fact that Jesus lived, taught and died on the cross because the evidence surrounding those factors of Jesus Christ is overwhelming (there are both the 4 Gospels AND secular/pagan historians that wrote about Jesus and His death and His existence. We even have documentation that refers to the darkness over the land and the earthquake after Jesus was crucified). What takes belief is His Resurrection and Ascension. And I wholeheartedly believe that.

Christopher Sampson Bonnie it is absolutel certainty that the gospels and letters of Paul, James and Peter were written before 70 AD. There is no doubt in my mind about that. Our great strength comes from not ourselves but from GOD. From knowing that GOD is our GOD, our friend. It is HE who watches over us. GOD is aware of us. The effects of aloneness are greatly diminished if we enter into this realisation. And whilst we don't see GOD, neither do we see HIS mighty Holy angels,sent by GOD to minister unto us. ( Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them who fear HIM, and delivereth them. ) And their ministration results in the lifting of our minds, bracing us to face the day, So we can also say like David said, Psalm 18:1 "The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, my GOD, my strength, in whom I will trust, my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower." Our life is one of duty. Duty to GOD. And duty to those whom GOD has put into our sphere of influence. And if we do our duty we will be content knowing we have given our all.

When Satan took Jesus Christ on a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, that is literal, it's not symbolic. Genesis is literal, not symbolic. When God says in Genesis; ... "and the evening and the morning were the second day." That's literal! When God says in Genesis that he created the firmament to seperate the waters beneth the earth with the waters above the earth...that is literal. How can that be symbolic? The only reason believers think it must be symbolic or metaphor is because it contradicts the modern religion of scientism. When God says he made a firmament and put the sun and the moon INSIDE the firmament that's literal. Nothing symbolic about that. The sun and the moon are inside the firmament according to God's Word. If you believe it how can the sun be 93 million miles away and the moon is 240.000 miles away? How big is this firmament then? Is it 95 million miles above the earth? Haha no it is not. The sun and the moon are the exactly same size, they are placed inside the firmament above the earth. The earth isn't a ball that spins, it dosent move, the sun is not 93 million miles away, it is the same size as the moon, the sun and the moon move. That's what God says. Take it or leave it! P.S. Cliffe you really need to update on Islam, how it started, who and what Muhammad was and when the Quran was written.

Hi Pastor Cliffe, I enjoy your videos, and my wife and I enjoy visiting your services when we can. I am going to strongly disagree with your assertion that the first two chapters of Genesis are poetic. I would be interested in seeing what Biblical literary foundation you are basing this on. The first two chapters of Genesis present themselves as historical. (This is well documented, and the literary tone does not change between the first two chapters and the rest of Genesis.) Hebrew Poetry presents itself completely different than the first two chapters of Genesis... and all of Genesis. I believe the only reason NOT to view these chapters as historical is if you are trying to meld the first two chapters into modern scientific theories of origins and blend Genesis with evolutionary theory. This is a mistake. We should have a foundation based on the Bible first and interpret from there. All of Genesis presents itself as historical fact. It either is, or it is not, what it claims to be. As can be shown quite well from the historical evidence, as well as the evidence found in paleontology, geology, and the archaeological evidence around us, there is a strong case to defend the historical nature of Genesis in its entirety.

Could it be that the those ancient scribes who had to take a bath, wash their pen, shampoo their hair, when they wrote the word God, were performing an act that was done not only as a reverence to God but also as a deliberate act of self diminishment. The act of self diminishment is contrary to our nature but in the circumstances that relate to God it's a very necessary requirement in order to ensure that it's God who is the elevated one. As we really come to terms with the realisation that even though we become eternal beings, and infinitely grow exponentially in knowledge and understanding of God; it's God who will always be better than us, infinitely superior to us, and this realisation and acceptance brings with it humbleness. However as the scribe had to do back flips, and jump in the Jordan 44 times in order to be diminished, so too do we need to force feed ourselves this fruit and eat what is contrary to our nature, which is the taking upon ourselves by forced recognition, the tremendous difference between ourselves and our maker. There is light years of distance between what God is and what we are not. It is not good for man to have a life without facing this truth with acceptance and thereby wash the scribes pen often. This powerful recognition keeps us in our place, under the wings of God. It is highly appropriate and certainly good for man to have this perpetual recognition. To know that this will never change, keeps us within ourselves, as we force ourselves to realise that this realisation is to be an eternal governor over our lives forevermore, preventing us from straying from God. Keeping us on the straight and narrow. We are meant to be greatly diminished in comparison to God. There is someone who is better than us. And always will be. And that someone is God whom we have become friends with. God is our friend. In God we trust.

Which then begs the question, if Cliffe has it so wrong about the literary style of Genesis 1-2 (he claims its not historical), can I trust his arguments about the literary style of historical narrative for the gospels? This is not a minor issue. I mostly love his other arguments and it is such a help in shoring up the faith, but his view on Genesis is almost fatal. Why is there such an effort to undermine Genesis (William Lane Craig as well)? Is it an attempt to gain credibility among the scientism crowd? I don't get it.

We have to somehow come to terms with the indisputable word of God in Matthew chapter 7 verses 13-14. For God clearly says that many will perish and few will follow the way the truth and the life. That's a bitter pill to swallow. We can't have our way. We can't persuade them all no matter how hard we try, but hey we will get the few. Oh yeah we will get the few. That's who we fight for. Where are they? We call them. The Lord doth say, " My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. " A sower sows the seed. Some grows. God gives the growth. We sow. We sow. We sow.

S bannoura Hello, how was time measured before the fourth day? Don't we use the Earth's revolution around the Sun to measure a Year, and the Moon's revolution around the Earth to measure a day etc.. The Sun and Moon appear to have been created on the fourth day, only the Earth and light (which I don't believe to be Sunlight) exist before the fourth day, there is no means to measure Time before then. The earth dosent move or spin around anything. Do you feel it moving? Don't think so. The earth is a level, stationary inclosed realm, not a planet spinning. God says that the sun and the moon are INSIDE the firmament, not out floating in some endless space. Jesus Christ claims to be God and here's the proof directly from scripture. Revelation 1:8, Revelation 22:13, John 10:30, John 8:24, John 5:18, John 5:30, John 8:58, John 1:1, John 17:5, John 1:14, John 14:9, John 2:19, Matthew 4:7, 1 Timothy 3:16, Collossians 2:9 and Collossians 1:16. If the Gospels are not trustworthy, then the quran is false because the quran teaches that the gospels are the inspired, perfectly-preserved, authoritative words of God. But if the Gospels are trustworthy, then the quran is STILL false because it teaches contradictory, mutually exclusive facts about key issues. Here's some verses that prove the quran confirms the Torah and the Gospels are inspired by allah. quran surah and ayats 2:41, 2:89, 2:91, 2:101, 2:121, 3:3-4, 3:50, 4:47, 5:46, 5:68, 6:114, 6:33-34, 7:157, 15:9 and 18:27.

Deuteronomy 14:1 "You are the sons of Yahweh your God". God was speaking to Moses there. Jesus calls Yahweh (God of the Bible, the real God) Father 165 times. That's haram in islam. The quran clearly states nobody can be the son of allah in any sense whatsoever. muslims are simply his slave. muslims clearly don't worship the God of Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Jesus, etc. like they think they do. allah clearly is not the God of the Jews or the Christians. Every other prophet called God, Father, except that pdf.file. muhammad (police be upon him) was also the only one who got visions of where he could stick his pen(is). That's extremely bizarre.

The quran teaches that Jesus Christ was not the Son of God, didn't die on the cross or resurrect from the dead. So why would Allah allow his people that followed his revealed word through the Gospels be deceived for 600 years about Christ's deity, crucifixion and resurrection? Why did he contradict his own words 600 years later in the quran? And why would muslims trust a man that came 600 years after Jesus Christ to tell them who Jesus Christ is over eye witness accounts?

The Old Testament and New Testament are all about the Messiah. In the Old Testament God kept telling/showing prophets he would send in a final sacrifical lamb to redeem us from our sins and reconcile us back to him and animal sacrifices would no longer be need to atone of our sins. Jesus Christ was that final sacrificial lamb. He fit the roll of the Messiah like a glove that's why we accept him as Messiah. Jesus fulfilled over 324 prophecies that dated back almost 1,000 years before he came to earth. For instance, that's why the Jews haven't gotten any revelation from God in over 2,400 years. Jesus Christ fulfilled prophecies stating he would be born in Bethlehem, die for our sins, rise from the dead on the third day (proving there's an afterlife and that he conquered it), be crucified, be born of a virgin, be from the line of david, his ministry would mainly be in Galilee, his kingdom would last forever, be betrayed for 30 silver coins, etc. His apostles were brutally murdered over what they claimed to have SEEN, not believed, Jesus Christ rising from the dead. Extra Biblical sources documenting events of Jesus Christ, such as his crucifixion for example. Including Tacitus, Josephus, Pliny the younger, Phlegon and many more Roman and Jewish historians. Phlegon in particular mentioned an earthquake took place during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ exactly how it's depicted in the Bible. Also emperor Guang Wu has documented writings about a man from heaven pardoning us from our sins, a blood lunar eclipse and the sky turning dark in daytime the exact day Jesus Christ was crucified just like the Bible says and Christian missionaries didn't go to east China until decades after Jesus's crucifixion. We now have the technology to be able to look back and see that there was an eclipse, dark sky, and an earthquake when Jesus crucified. Just like Jesus's apostles wrote down in the Gospels. Jesus Christ stated "I am the way and the truth and the life and no man cometh unto the Father except through me" John 14:6. Buddha pointed toward Jesus Christ, the talmud says he did sorcery, the OT said he would perform miracles, in the NT he performed miracles. People want to say Jesus didn't perform miracles but let me ask you this. What would you need to do in the span of three years to get to the point where people create an entire religion around you and all they do is worship you, to the point where your name is the most famous name on the planet for the last 2,000 plus years? Jesus Christ's body was put in a famous tomb of his day with a giant stone rolled over the entrance and guarded by Roman soldiers. It was the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, a well know politician. With that being said, muhammad's (police be upon him) grave is full, Siddhartha Guatama Buddha's grave is full, Joseph Smith's grave is full, Zoroaster's grave is full and Jesus Christ's grave remains empty. Jesus Christ is God and Lord.

JESUS is KNOCKING on your HEARTS DOOR. Romans 10:9-10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

It's so disturbing when Cliffe calls Genesis 1 and 2 poetry and then jumps right into 3 being historical narrative.

I think it's because of what they call Genesis gap. The historical evidence of humans and huge ruins date so far back, it's like the whole place was made void and without form and completely covered in water to have erasure of the ancient past before the new creation. The writing in Genesis doesn't need to give history before it's history. And it's about who was created to begin at it's beginning. It doesn't articulate just how far back the beginning was. Satan did appear as a serpent, And brought about the line of Cain before being judged and altered to go on his belly with enmity now between him and the woman's "seed".

@@InfoArtistJKatTheGoodInfoCafe No, not really, just by certain things. When someone is claiming to speak truth while part of it is indefensible, then yes, * am easily disturbed. It is eather a source document or it is not. It isn't part of a source document and part of a pretend Narrative. The first two chapters of Genesis are the key text to all of scripture so to claim they are poetry then jump to literal text isn't even logical,.and it can not be defended by the scripture he claims as truth. I empathize but I also do not compromise.

Thank you for your continued Faith Walk / Talk !___But while the Bible evidence is clear about Jesus being the Reserected Living Loving Son of GOD, and Yes GOD's ONLY Begotten Holy SON; belief in JESUS also being Part of a 'TRIUNE" God is not needed for salvation, in my, Humbled by the GOD / FATHER of JESUS, point of view.__daniel

So disappointing after hearing such great arguments for the historical accuracy of the life of Christ, only to deny the historical accuracy of Genesis! Genesis 1 and 2 are not poetry, it is history. It gives a precise time line of clearly defined days, "morning and evening are the first day", etc... This is such an important point as the whole theology of salvation (original sin, etc...) depends on this very point. In fact, you are undermining the credibility of Jesus himself who quoted Genesis 1 as historical narrative.

you've read Genesis 1 and 2 in it's original text and know for a fact that it was not written in a poetic literary style?

If you want to read Hebrew poetry, read Psalms. After reading through a few of the psalms, go back and read Genesis to see if the style is similar. Genesis is written in a very plain style of writing. DAY 1: God does X. DAY 2: God does Y. DAY 3: God does Z. etc. The primary reason that Christians claim that Genesis is poetry or allegory is because they find it hard to believe in our current culture. Christians are apparently willing to accept that God Himself was manifest in human form, walked on water, made blind me see and deaf men speak, died for their sins and rose on the 3rd day... but they're not willing to accept that God created the earth in 6 days.

Contradictions in the bible dont bother cliffe. Cliffe leaves out that the gospels were anonymous, and differ from each other. How do you know cliffe. Just empty assertions without evidence. What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. What eyewitnesses? That is hearsay. Carrier, Price Fitzgerald.

If christianity was seen as a philosophy, or way of life, there wouldn't be this push. But it claims to be the only way, the truth, and that hell awaits for those who do not accept these claims. Very compelling if you're afraid of life or death

Westerners aren't Christians anymore. They are even confused of their own gender and far from being helped.. The centre of Christianity and Biblical Christians are now in Africa , South America and Asia. The western destruction is already started .They dug their own grave by rebelling and rejecting Gods word.
