When do you think is the right time in a relationship to give your significant other a key to your place?

No, do not spin this around. He never gave her a key because he didn't know. You can't expect a man to read your thoughts. But I do believe that it's a man's fault for not offering in the first time. It shows that he doesn't think of her needs as much as she does.
@Dior3llaxoxo6 жыл бұрын
Babyyyyyyy Loni's response had me deadddddd 🤣 cause she's lowkey right. He should have given you the key the moment you gave him yours. You shouldn't be worried bout no key four years into the relationship, you should be looking to get a ring and a place for the both of you to own. But hindsight is 20/20. Lenny just wasn't the one. I also agree with the part about feeling weird about asking your partner for certain things. Or feeling embarrassed to do certain things. That's how you know they're not the one. I dated a guy like that. I would feel weird about calling him. Or asking him to do anything. Lorddd I'm so glad those days are over. You should feel 100 % comfortable with your partner.

Looking back deep down i knee what it was and the other person clearly wasnt as invested as i was. I no longer give guys the benefit of the doubt anymore, the way you treat me and us shows how you really feel. This could be a sign to reconsider your relationship and think about what it is you want and deserve. Its 2018 we dont have to settle for anything less than what we are worthy of x

I’ve been dating my bae for 6 weeks. He gave me a key 3 weeks in, I never asked for it but I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with Ade, it’s not “just a key”, it’s a proxy for how open a man is to letting you into his life. When it’s right, you won’t have to ask for any of these milestones, he’ll volunteer.
@babaybluerocks6 жыл бұрын
I feel like Adrienne's situation is very different because she was actually living there. I agree with Lonnie that it's his space and I have my own so there's no need for me to have a key to his place and for him to have a key to mine. If I give a key to him, it's because I want to give it to him and I would want him to give me a key only because he wants to, not because he feels obligated to. For Adrienne I think he should have given her key just for logistical purposes so that she's not calling you every time she has to go to the house, but in general I feel like a key is not that necessary to me.

@flutterby84626 жыл бұрын
Odile Tejeda you’re so right. And I know I’ll sound old fashioned but I honestly Believe it’s because women in general tend to give their all in a relationship and then the man has no need to officially commit because he’s already getting what he wants out of the relationship. For example if people waited until they were married before they had sex and lived together and had children etc... then men and women would just work at getting to know if the person that they like is someone they want to be committed to and do all those things with. Nowadays it’s all backwards.
@sisid22896 жыл бұрын
Flutterby 84 I disagree. A men who have a bad character, will still acting like that after marriage. More, the women will be stuck A good men, even if you have sex, cook for him and all that’s, will still marry you for yourself Not for because he want “taking” your hymen, not for you to finally cook and having sex. I view marriage as vows to do all those things you were doing before marriage, forever

As much as A talks about her past relationships and loves her alone time, you can tell she is still very naive about what defines/makes a true relationship (not just the physical, not matter how much you can give that man/woman), is the type to fall in love quickly and set her relationship standards based on Glamour/Allure articles/movies, and is in love with love. I had a friend like that. It was the same thing bs over again and again with these facade "serious" relationships + obligations she kept placing on these dudes who just wanted to kick it. No talks of a future. Lenny was married at a young age I believe, and divorced with 2+ kids. Given his recognition in the music industry (he's an A+R), she should've peeped homie was not ready to be married again nor did he want someone to have access to assets he owns. Especially if he was married for a longtime, and probably gave up more than half of his assets. But I sense he probably told her, but she avoided the signals or buried her feelings because A wanted to be in a relationship. And judging by the panel's face, hints Tamar/Loni used to give her, and that even her family told her to let him go when she talked about her first proposal had no "thought", you can tell they weren't shocked by this 'revelation'.

So, from what I understand, Adrienne gave him her key and he had the ability to use it throughout most of the relationship. Conversely, he never gave her a key which would have granted her access to his place. It wasn't until she gave up her own space that she was given a key which she had to ask for. Until then, she had to busy herself until he got home so that she could have access to his place. Did he think that was normal? Fair? Why? Why does Loni continue to emphasize her need for control throughout this segment?

It's not "just a key," it's truly intimate access to one's personal space, which requires a level of trust given by, AND trustworthiness of, the giver of the key. I don't think we should ever ask for a key, though; either they offer it or they don't - but it's not our place to ask for it. And really, no one should have a key to your home except the people who live there, your kids (grown/out of the home) and maybe a parent in case of emergencies. Your place should be your sanctuary, especially if you're single. No one deserves that kind of free access, unless you're engaged - and even then, it's a big maybe for me LOL!

If someone is living with you then they obviously need to key. God for bid you accidentally lock yourself out have to wait eight hours for someone to get back from work

Nayneeka she was living there! Is she supposed to wait around all the time just to get into her what was then essentially her home everyday? It's inconvenient for everyone.

Book Bag and........why would that person be at work and the other is living there not paying any bills? the original post say not paying any bills/ contributing. that is a problem only weak people have to allow that to happen. 😑 if she is living there yes she needs a key, yes but imma need a bitch to pay this light bill.

I know exactly what Adrienne is talking about! Been there before, could have wrote a book, and put up with so much from someone who would not and could not do the same for me! I felt like I had nothing to hide and in the end the person ended up being deceitful and selfish. The person TO THIS DAY begs me to be with him NOW that I'm happy and moved on with my life, but I know my worth now. Prior to me knowing and OWNING my worth I went through the same exact thing Adrienne did for the similar reason Adrienne did. Thank God we both dodged those bullets!

This one had me in tears. I just got out of something where I felt like what Adrienne was describing, feeling like I was having to ask for each step in the relationship. We were together for 5 years. I feel like he didn’t want to move forward with me but he didn’t want to see me with anyone else so we were together.

I agree with Loni. There's some people that are super private and don't feel safe giving anyone a key unless their name is also on the lease. You wouldn't understand unless you've met someone like she's describing; they exist. I still get Adrienne's perspective though, the key situation is just one of the milestones that she had to ask for in her previous relationship. That's probably why she got married so quickly to Israel. He was a stark contrast to her previous experiences

You are right Loni, Until you put a ring on it, what's mine is mine and what's yours is yours, including the key to my house.

Unpopular opinion: should’ve asked for it on move in day and he would’ve just given it to you. Waiting years and not saying anything is ridiculous. And Lenny must be slow because even when a friend or family member moves in you’re supposed to give them a key to the place. But at the same time when you first move in to a place isn’t a KEY and the alarm code the first things you ask for? You check in to a hotel and the concierge forgets to give you a key to your room, so you be like “Hey, where’s my key?” Then they be like “oh ma’am I’m sorry here you go.” Women we save ourselves a world of hurt if we have the strength enough to ASK for what we want and REQUIRE/ DEMAND a certain level of respect. Obviously Adrienne didn’t do that, lesson learned I guess.

Moving into my own space in a few weeks, and I absolutely agree with Adrienne! However I’m the type that needs my own space and don’t like to feel suffocated! You can have your space and I’ll have mine! I’ll love you with every cell in my body, whole-heartedly BUT I won’t chase you!!!

Unpopular opinion: Closed mouths don’t get fed. She should’ve asked for that key on move in day. And he would’ve gave it to her too, because he didn’t think it was that big of a deal anyway.🤷🏾♀️

I get the frustration where you feel like you're always pushing for the next step. But sometimes, you just have to know yourself (and your partner). I am a full force kind of person, and once I know what I want, I KNOW. My SO is a much more laid back person, and suffers from anxiety issues. It means that I'm often ready for the next step before he is. But I've never doubted his love for me or that he would get there. And so far, he hasn't let me down. It can be so difficult to wait though. But we have to make sure that we recognize the difference between "red flags" and just being different people taking the same road at different speeds. What matters to me is that he's on the same road I am and walking next to me. I have to go a little slower, and he has to speed things up so we can stay on the same track, but we're still going the same places.
