The Technic Rotation Joint Disk pair (44224 & 44225) Are feasibly the strongest ratchet joints for knees, but they're very round.
@reddimus112 жыл бұрын
Those pieces are used as his thigh joints, if I recall correctly. They could technically work, but it would require a massive redesign of the legs.
@r.p.45312 жыл бұрын
Only one of those pairs in each knee will still not be enough , only if they put two in each knee , and at that point you will Have Optimus with very THICK thighs , and that would be a no no in my book ( sacrificeing the design for more articulation ) Unfortunately there is no way to give knees without being unstable . But don't be afraid LEGO begun to put knees in there mechs this summer will come the biggest lego mech to ever have knees (71775) it is 120$ maybe one day we will have a 170 $ robot like Optimus with knees . Sorry if i said something wrong english is my second language .

I think the big problem with lego Optimus is exemplified by how many modification videos there are. To make him animation accurate, I've had to remove his hip wheels, pretty much his entire belt, his finger clips, and rearrange the back plating to allow his legs to move back. Never have I seen so many modification videos coming out for a Lego set so fast, meaning Lego honestly did slip up on this set when designing it

Could even be silly and do the knees like they did them in the big Zane ninjago mech set. They gave that big heavy thing decent knees by using the several of the mini ball joints together at an angle that creates a bunch more friction. That sacrifices the side-to-side rotation, though. the nice thing with that solution though is it could fit in a 2 stud wide profile perfectly fine and not look too jarring if you retool the calf leg assembly to fit it in
@lekanraposte67322 жыл бұрын
Maybe by using some Technics pieces like ratchets and pistons? It would be a challenge to do it without changing the overall look.

I have no idea what techniques could be used to give him knees, but if one is insistent on doing so, I'd recommend looking at the Ninjago Zane's Titan Mech and newest Nya's Samurai X Mech sets. Those are the biggest Lego mechs to date with knees. They use multiple ratchet or ball joints and reinforcement those joints to both stabilize the figure and give the knees resistance. From what I can tell, Optimus Prime is heavier than these other mechs so the knee technique still might not work but you gotta start somewhere right?
