ok but why has this situation devolved into “Hannah is a bad friend” when it started because of Angelika’s racism/micro aggressions towards POC 🤔
@crownofeunoia1907
@crownofeunoia1907 3 жыл бұрын
Because people who tried to forced that issue are uncomfortable about actually dealing with racism or not care about combating racism. Like the “bad friend” spiel is a bunch of crap when you realized that Hannah has a lot of friend and it originated from the Mean Girls Drama Channels because Hannah embarrassed them because she wasn’t okay with Rich Lux’s racism like they were. People hate on Hannah because her words aren’t empathy platitudes. She actually try to follow up on them.

I haven't commented on anything about this thing, as I feel like it's not my place to accept apologies that aren't for me. I'm white, not trans (but part of the LGBT community) and feel it's not my place to be accepting those apologies from anyone. I admit, I have had drama of my own earlier on in the year with some people from my uni's LGBT community because I knew very little and trans issues and history, and had no idea of how hard they're digging for their rights. I only became aware that some people are trans at the LGBT pride event in 2018. Ever since that time, I've been talking with my trans friends and reading more about trans issues where I am and globally. I have also had little idea of the struggle BIPOC people go through until I went to my university's unconscious bias training, though have been on receiving end of microaggression and know how it affects people. I've been reading about BIPOC experiences and educating myself more. It's something I hope more people do, educate others and themselves. And I hope that Angelika does take that path and educate herself. And the microaggression and racism education side of things should be what we want from her and give her ways of learning about these issues.
@tayter_chip
@tayter_chip 3 жыл бұрын
@@EnchantingWings1 i love how you said you took the drama you were in as an opportunity to learn and educate yourself! That’s exactly how we should behaving and it’s admirable to be able to self reflect in that way. Obviously it’s impossible for someone to know everything about LGBT or BIPOC issues, but when we’re called out on problematic things we do/say we should be open to learning and changing instead of digging our heels in and refusing to acknowledge how our behavior could be harmful.

@@tayter_chip my mum and I have those discussions all the time about current events, especially that where we come from is a horrible place to be at the moment due to LGBTQ, women's health and racism issues. We talk about it all openly and my mum has always had an open mind to people. Plus, I think living in Scotland has opened us up to a more diverse culture. Education when we mess up is important, as is self reflection. Especially on such important issues. It's how I wish people were. Open to discussion, debate and learning and self reflection.

Bailey Sarian once said, “Get better hobbies, people” and I stand with her on that. I shouldn’t be surprised this is the stance Angelika and the others have taken because this is a common trait between white KZbinrs like them. They make offensive comments to the marginalized groups and rather than be held accountable for them, they turn the situation into something the world shouldn’t be focused on. I’ll admit: I was disappointed to see a few of your responses defending her. However, there was a part of me that believed Angelika hadn’t told you the whole story as she wanted you to continue thinking of her as a saint. The only person that “threw a friend under the bus” was her as she watched people attack you and refused to apologize for what she said to the BIPOC community. Maybe unpopular opinion; but I think SG had to address this publicly. The drama in August was public and all of the comments on on the video and the tweets were public. If she didn't address it or was vague it would look like she's ignoring the situation. Anyone, ANYONE, can be micro-aggresive to a group you're not in no matter how hard you try not to be. I've been in an interracial relationship for years and I'm know I've said things that weren't correct, and they have said things about my sexuality that wasn't correct. What happens then? We apologise and talk about it. Understand that no one is perfect, but getting defensive and deflecting is the worst possible way to react. Is Angelika a racist? I doubt it. Did she handle this situation in a way that makes her look that way, or at the very least like an immature brat? Yes. But she's 20, and I hope in a few years she'll look back on this and cringe.

Being 20 is no longer an acceptable excuse. She should have addressed this properly instead of taking all the wrong turns that she did. It takes effort to make the mistakes that she did. That being said, forgiveness is still on the table if she shows true growth. I believe she's too close to the situation right now to see how wrong she was. We'll see though, maybe 2021 will bring about positive change.

@@spectre9340 from what I understand, someone photoshopped a pic of Kylie Jenner to have the caption "dark skin girl". After being exposed as a fake, the discussion was that it was a good fake because of often the Kardashian/Jenner's exploit African American culture. AO covered the issue, but in a way that seemed to gloss over the bigger issue of exploitation/ grifting of AA culture in defense of Kylie. When later asked to clarify her statements on twitter and in a livestream, she blocked people instead of addressing it. I think she does eventually clarify as part of another video that all she meant was that Kylie being photoshopped isn't a big deal, not that black fishing and exploitation in general wasn't a big deal. I got a bad feeling about Angelika once she quit university and started only doing drama videos in her time. Overtime her content got more and more lazy and she made wild assumptions without ever apologizing in her next videos or doing a retraction or responding to any comments. It's a classic case of you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. She's easy to criticize Gabby Hanna for not taking an accountability immediately after something happens but when the shoes on the other foot she backtracks. I hope she learns from this and actually finds something else to do rather than reporting on internet drama for a living. Only talking about the negatives in people slowly makes you become more cynical and this is seen with a lot of other channels that have come before her. I get that it earns her a massive amount of money but it's hardly something to be proud of.

Yes, (1) drama channels wanting petty revenge against (2) a non-conventional female creator (who holds herself the exceptionally high standards) find an opportunity when (3) a young female creator (aiming to hold herself to a similarly high standard) is caught "learning on the job." Marginalized people ((4)BIPOC and (5)trans communities) become the weapon of choice. We DON'T have a widely accepted procedure for dismantling white fragility YET, so of course it is a mess when it is attempted. The 2 women are hurt, the marginalized communities are hurt, and the drama channels get what they want, for now. As much as this was a sh*tshow, and Black women are commenting that this is all too much, when the BLM protests were happening this summer, a common refrain was "white people need to learn to talk to each other about race." Yes it is a mess because it hasn't been done in earnestly in large scale before, but I appreciate both women for speaking honestly and apparently listening to each other and learning. Don’t let the drama channels trick you into believing these women are as small as they are.

I think a lot more people need practice taking the time to gather themselves so they can respond to difficult communications. Things would likely have gone differently between these two if they had taken more time to figure out what the hell is going on. In the end, I know some communities were demanding to know what the stance was, however, you can't do a proper investigation and communicate well in that little time. We need to stop knee-jerking everything. Yeah, don't take months, but you can wait 24 hours and figure your shit out privately before making videos for the world to consume as drama.

How about we demand accountability from SG for spreading lies that Angelika has said transphobic things when she found no proof, just to take the heat off of herself and put it into her "friend". How about Hannah receive accountability for the hurtful homophobic things she's said in the past? Or the homophobic comments she liked when the whole James Charles thing went down.
