Giving this Les Paul A LIVING WAGE Finish: Cosmetic perfection is very expensive.

It's often occurred to me that Gibson are able to offer far less expensive versions of their popular Les Paul Standard. The reason is mostly labour at a living wage. Actual materials costs I would imagine are marginal compared to paying a guy $30 an hour to sand away orange peel. That's just my theory. So I'm adding some of the labour back to this Les Paul to elevate its status among Les Paul's around it:-)

So many internet know-alls missed the point that we were watching a beginner on his learning journey to repairing guitars, not an already qualified luthier with years of experience under his belt that just decided to upload what he was currently working on. I also liked it when you would get a guitar that someone else had botched an attempt on and tried to make it better, not forgetting all those cheap guitars you went through, its not like you destroyed PRS 10 tops and Gibson Custom shop builds on a regular basis. Glad your back and with your sanity intact, here's to you doing what you want as and when you want and not burning out because of trolls.

Welcome back! Great to see new content from you! Great seeing how much you have grown! Seeing you as an amateur doing this is pushing me to do the same with my amp builds/repairs. That said, a suggestion/tip for masking holes: get some of those extremely cheap foam earplugs. They work great for plugging holes prior to finishing (you can do the same with scrap foam from shipping materials, but the earplugs seem to work better for holes as you roll them tight and they expand to fit.

Welcome back. Good to see you again. I do have a question. I have picked up a 70s Ibanez LP a while back and im going to refresh the old hardware. The body finish has all crackled like the old 60s very well used clear coat finishes and the cracks look deep. I am not sure if I want to go as far as refinishing it down to wood or sealing it up with some kind of clear that you are using on the headstock. What are your suggestions. I kinda like the old crackling extremely aged look. Daren

Just my humble opinion. It take one or two pieces of tape to cover the marks in the pup routes. Doesn't have to be neat. Literally takes less than 60 seconds to preserve part of the legacy of an instrument.
