The biggest risk from one of these tests is the rather high likelihood that you find out that your apparent father is not your actual father. It’s shocking how frequently this happens. 🤷♂️
@dawnelder90469 ай бұрын
Actually 8 percent of the time. About 5 percent of those fathers know. Sperm banks or adoption. So in reality 3 percent. A young woman in Toronto bought her entire family DNA tests. The parents had to call a family meeting. The 4 children all had the same dad, just not the one who raised them. His swimmers didn't work. They all had a good laugh. But for those 3 percent where Dad did not know, it must be devastating for both the father and the child. Especially if very close.

It takes 5 weeks for them to receive your DNA plus another 6-8 weeks for them to give your results. It is a long time to wait especially if you’re wanting to know anxiously more about your ancestors and family. It’s been 3/5 weeks for me since I sent my DNA to Ancestry. Already into the 4th week. It costs money to look at others family trees and premium information which can hinder research as much as accepting wrong info.

@PearlyMcdow-mccormick7 ай бұрын
That's not true all of it. Because ancestry did me wrong. They closed. My account OL that then sold it to the person that paid my subscription.So they have my DNA and I can't do it. So i'm kinda upset

Very good examples on how this can be such a breech of privacy. Thank you. But please do elaborate on how the Genetic Information Non Discrimination Act is (or perhaps was by this point) “under siege” by republican law makers. I am curious.

I took the ancestry dna test looking for viking and found none. Being confused it took 2 weeks to follow this rumor told by my dark age nobles and found these busts that the Roman's have 3000 years ago and my family look like twins of these guys still today and my last name means the eyebrow bridge of the Sarmatians. They found the tombs of the Amazon warrior women and they are the daughters of the Sarmatians knights. So my DNA proved I am decended from the very first horse people and the Amazon warrior women are actually my Grandmother's, while the Sarmatian knights are my grandfather's. All Slavs are 50/50 Sarmatian/Slavic.

So I don’t get it then so how do they know whose your family then this dna tells you after you take one that means thru already know ?
@apgeneticgenealogylover6601 Жыл бұрын
"how do they know whose your family" because if people are genetically related to you close enough, you'll share enough DNA that they can tell. If your parents, siblings, grandparents, great grandparents (which is possible because there are elderly people still alive who have tested and have great grandchildren who also tested), first, second, third or fourth cousin have tested, there will be enough genetic similarity to you. That's how they tell.

Why would they need your old vial of spit after they just mined YOUR DNA for information? You are so naive you are confusing "I destroyed a vial with your spit" with "I destroyed all digital and physical records of your DNA, genetic diseases you are prone to have, your ethnicity and all your relative's information" which they did not do. Because you agreed to sell it to them already.

Also, there's the way in which legislation may change in the future, leaving you helpless in ways you cannot imagine. For instance, due to some alleged "virus" authorities may decree that DNA information will be crucial to eradicate the virus since it reveals those more likely to transmit it, or to catch it. You may find yourself targeted for whatever procedures those authorities decide are best for the community, albeit Draconian for you and those in your little group.
