Saw this poem and it reminded me of you. Apron Strings Her apron was meant for protection From a spatter, a splash or a stain The things that could make her best Sunday dress Unwearable…ever again. But when they were on her old apron She could give them a really good scrubbing And that old apron was no worse for the wear, No matter the washing and rubbing. Aprons were also a blanket For the baby she held at her breast. When the apron was wrapped snug around him Secure in her song. He could rest. Its pockets were all about keeping. A tissue, a receipt, a safety pin, The Baby’s pacifier, a toggle toy tire, A ribbon, the address of a friend. And aprons were also for tugging. For toddlers who wished she would hold them She decided the clothes would just have to wait… Till the holding was done. Then she’d fold them. Aprons were also for wiping. Noses, counter tops or damp platters. Aprons were tied to the heart of her life To each part of Grandmother that mattered. That old apron hangs in my kitchen now And it still teaches lessons I need: The importance of being unspotted. The security His children need. Quite lovely, ....reminds me of my mother, who was a homemaker, back in the 50's and 60's. Dressing in the morning included a fresh apron for the day. It's so true, that it was used to wipe hands, noses, and counters, and who knows what else. I think back, when she would sit on the couch to rest, and after school I'd go and lay on her lap and she would stroke my hair, and now I laugh at the realization of all the critters on that apron, that I was laying my head on 🤢. We all did fine though, and it reminds me of better days, and memories of simpler times in this crazy world we're in now.

Your just cooking up a storm, I think I would try sausage in that. Made chocolate angle pie today, egg white crust with a light chocolate mousse and piled with whipped cream and shaved chocolate, from Maida Heatter's Great Chocolate Desserts, I can't wait to eat it, have not made it for a couple years, it is a lot of steps but my favorite pie of all time. Hope you got some rain, supposed to get some here next week, I hope so, cause it is starting to look like Texas here but it is still cooler, actually shut the windows last night. This reminds me of how my mom, once in awhile, used to make what she called hash. She would saute ground beef, onions, peppers, chopped potatoes, and maybe some corn. Salt and pepper, then melt cheese on top. Maybe some bread and butter, and a square of jello salad. That would be a week night meal, or perhaps an end of the month (pre my dad's payday) meal. It tasted good to us. I bet you could make a Thanksgiving version of this with ground turkey, just for fun. I stocked up at the grocery store today mostly on ingredients to make soups, stews, and casseroles. I have to stretch the dollar. Thank you for the casserole recipe and showing us how to make it.♥️

I have a suggestion you might want to consider: When your noodles are about two minutes from being done, scoop them out of the boiling liquid and put them into the ground beef soup mix to finish cooking. Reserve some of the starchy pasta water to flavor the ground beef/soup mix, add the cheese on top, cover and finish the dish in the skillet rather than heating up your oven to finish the dish. It really adds an additional depth of umami flavor to the dish.

Howdy, friend! Hope you are having a restful Sunday evening. I just gathered eggs, let hens out to free range a bit ago. I picked some of the little birds eye peppers....man! It will take a long time picking those little red 1/4 " balls to make a jar of pepper sauce. lol I cleaned out several beds getting ready to plant the fall crop. Maybe the cooler weather will yield more goodness...But, If not, I do enjoy gardening! The gardening journey.....brings peace to me. Have a wonderful week!!!!!!

I have fixed this casserole before and it's a great quick meal! You can also add some sour cream in it and just cut your milk down. I've started buying a case of one item a week to restore my preps since I don't have much time to can this year! Filling in the holes that we've used and adding some more items. Restocked tuna and hash and spam and several veggies! Next will be cream of soups and since celery is starting to come in, will get what I need and chop and freeze it for Thanksgiving, Onions also! Having issues with Pasta I have stored. I got bugs in the boxed pastas! UGH! What a waste!

This casserole sounds delicious and easy on the wallet! Very versatile! I'm interested in investing in a good vacuum sealer for freezer items and I've never owned one, but looking to just go ahead and buy one. Can you recommend a good vacuum sealer? Thank you so much!!

Laura. My first vacuum sealer was a Food Saver brand. It served me well. I had the attachments to fit on jars so I could seal my mason jars. Then, we got the vacmaster 215.....chamber vacuum. It is pricey....but, you can seal bags with liquid in them and it seals perfectly. To test that ...I sealed a bag of water.. Not a drop seeped out. It is a matter of your $....and how much you'd use it. Because of putting up food preserved with the freeze dryer, we invested in the more expensive one. Just research them and pick what will adequately work for you!

Do the noodles freeze well in this, or do they become mushy once they are heated back up from frozen?

I’m watching my diabetes. Instead of traditional egg noodles, I use No Yolk egg noodles and they are fat free. If available to you, you can use wheat noodles or all grain any type noodles. Some people think that wheat noodles don’t taste good I did too. But really you can’t tell the difference at all. I use spaghetti made from wheat for my granddaughters, of course covered with sauce they don’t have a clue.
