I noticed that when the two middle knuckles connect in a punch, not exactly the same spot on the second knuckle makes the contact as when the first two knuckles connect. That's why I think that, to condition all your knuckles evenly, you need 3 sets of knuckle push ups: -One on your first two knuckles. -One on middle knuckles. -One on last two knuckles. Do you agree?

Sensei, my finger knuckles collapse a little when i do these. I built up to them slow and they don't cause me pain but I can't keep my fingers as straight as yours. Will my joints stiffen, strengthen and stop collapsing like yours or do you just have naturally strong joints? Do you muscularly hold them in place or do your fingers just not bend back like mine? I want strong stable finger joints like you!
@GKCgoju6 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the finger push-ups?
@thearchives4466 жыл бұрын
GKCgoju yes the fingertip push ups, will my knuckles stiffen over time?
@GKCgoju6 жыл бұрын
I can't really give individual advice however I will say that it is important to always work progressively when developing strength. So for example if your fingers are bending and you are trying to keep them straight then the solution is to find a position where you can keep them straight and work on holding that position. For example if I can only hold that position for 10 seconds then I will perform 3 sets of 10 seconds consistently over time. With this practice I may then in time be able to hold the position for 30 seconds easily. At this point I will increase the load on my finger and repeat.

For index finger knuckle- your conditioning and hitting positions are exactly the same ( you forming a pike actually), however for mid finger you have to slightly close the grip and it becomes more weak construction (?) Appreciate in advance your valuable comment!
@GKCgoju7 жыл бұрын
Dmitry Volkov yes, nakadaka ippon ken (middle finger) is challenging. In this video I don't show the full exercise but you're right, it gets weaker in structure when you close the fist so it is important support correctly with the other fingers. In my one knuckle makiwara video I show the fist formation.
@dmitryvolkov85087 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your prompt response! So the trick is to get middle finger supported good by other surrounding fingers as tight bind. We all would appreciate if you could dedicate some videos for Nakadaka Ken practice and the Thumb Trust ( I guess it is Boshi Ken) as well.

I think impact training is foremost to train knuckles and finger strikes. The push-up is a reinforcing training method. By impact the bones of the knuckles will grow and the tendons and bones of the fingers will become stronger gradually to withstand direct impact on it. I use a computer mouse pad on a table hitting it with the tip of my fingers and extended knuckles; and hit a multi- layered pad of a cut old wet suit then hang it on a concrete wall as a backstop of the pad when hit so it will not move rearward. I feel the hard concrete but cushioned by the pad. the tip of my extended knuckles will not have callous over time while i strengthening my knuckles and fingers to withstand impact. Just my opinion and practice. please give information on knuckle and finger strike training method. Thanks.

What you are sharing here is probably more advanced than I am ready for, strength-wise. I have just begun training in seido karate. They told me my way of doing pushups was wider (where my hands are on the ground) than the way they tend to do it. They bring the arms closer to the sides, and I notice is definitely utilizes different muscles - where as the wide method is utilizing the pectoral muscles more. Do you have advice for how I line up properly for these more "narrow" pushups? Are you familiar with this approach? Maybe its sort of fundamental to these more advanced exercises you're sharing here.
@GKCgoju7 жыл бұрын
Yes, the method you mention is going to work the triceps a lot more. The easiest way to get the correct width is to lie flat on your stomach and bring the hands in as close to your sides as you can (your wrists will be pushed up against your ribs). When you do the push-up your forearms should rub your sides - If you are not used to these you may not be able to push-up from the floor and you may need to modify until you have built up the strength.

Cats with 5 claws on front paw does not support normally on all 5 when walking but instead only uses front 4, thumbs up.... drawn in. This align the bones of hand much more correct than when dooing 5 fingers set down to support. We should maybe consider learning from correct vs. what we think or want to be correct useage of hand when were down on 4 legs? Your cool, sifu, but still we need to make the lines from fingertipspushups not break anywhere, even if we can only take 1 pushup, I think...
