BLACKPINK has accumulated a total of 32 billion views on their KZbin channels alone. In particularly, 'DDU-DU DDU-DU', the title song of their 1st mini album "SQUARE UP" released back in 2018, has surpassed 1.7 billion views for its music video, breaking the record for the highest views of a K-pop group's video."

1. LISA SMOKE WINGS A burst of pink smoke gives Lisa wings, which represent flight and freedom. This strongly connects her and the pink cockatoo that appears later on. 2. QUEEN JENNIE Jennie is dressed as a colourful queen, high above the other chess pieces, which suggests that the black and white rules of chess don’t apply to her. This suggests that Jennie has decided to live her life by her own rules and will play the game her own way. JISOO'S UMBRELLA Lisa plays the offense with her sword and hammer lightstick, while Jisoo uses her umbrella as a shield. Jisoo’s umbrella protects her from the sparks that try to burn her. She stands glamorous and strong in black mourning clothes. This suggests that she has, and will continue to, survive every trial the world throws at her. Like Rosé, she is divided into a black self and a white self. Her white self gives off frivolous, diva vibes, while the black self demands to be taken seriously. White Jennie rejects her own stereotype by throwing down her expensive goods and allowing Black Jennie’s tank to crush them. represents (again) power, you see her full of paper bags but she is being run over by her truck because the aspects of femininity are not just shopping & art as others think. girls are more than beauty and style. 12. JISOO'S MURAL In this scene, we see two Jisoos. One is an unchanging, infallible image. The other is a living, breathing, real person. Fans and Medias take admiring photos of her image, but as soon as she makes a mistake, the “fans” or the "media" turn their phone on her like guns. This symbolizing how photos and social media can be used to build someone up as easily as they can tear someone down. It also shows how one little mistake can damage an idol’s image and turn admirers against them. PART PLUS: the girl in her shirt is actually sandra brant a member of the lgbt community so she also seems to symbolize the people 13. ROSÉ ON THE CHANDELIER Rosé swings on this chandelier like a bird in a cage. As she swings, she causes the power to flicker, suggesting that the situation may be becoming precarious. She may keep swinging until the power completely goes out, the chandelier falls, and she breaks free of her cage. 14. PINK WISTERIA Since wisteria vines bloom in spring and early summer, these flowers symbolize new life. Pink wisteria can also symbolize blossoming feelings of love. The wisteria in BLACKPINK’s video, however, are growing outside of their natural environment in near darkness. In spite of this, the flowers are thriving while changing the world around them into a more beautiful place. 15. BLACK VS WHITE Black traditionally represents evil while white represents good, but BLACKPINK seems to have altered their meanings. In this video, white may represent a beautiful and beloved, but also false, self, while black represents the members’ true selves. 16. TIME A pocket watch can be seen on the desk during Lisa’s blackboard scene. An hourglass can also be seen during her cockatoo scene. These symbols may indicate that times are changing for BLACKPINK, or that this moment is their time to shine. 17. THE COLOUR PINK Throughout the video, pink symbolizes strength and gives the BLACKPINK members the power to take control of their situations. Jennie’s pink throne literally elevates her to the rank of queen, the most powerful game piece in chess. For Lisa, pink becomes a weapon in the form of a katana. The money she surrounds herself with is also pink; wealth symbolizes power. Queen Rosé wears a sheer, light pink cape as part of her regal ensemble. Traditionally, brightly coloured hair has been seen as a sign of rebellion. Jisoo’s pink hair helps her to rebel against her own image and the people who have placed expectations on her based on this image.

the no CG thing is actually a BLACKPINK thing. Don't get me wrong Kpop as a whole does invest a lot of time, money, and effort in their music videos but it seems YG refuses to use any CGI in BLACKPINK MVs 😅 (except fot Whistle but that gets a pass because 1.) it's one of their earliest tracks 2.) it's meant to be abstract).

Guys, there is a 3rd Asian band that I would love for you to discover next & react to: BAND-MAID. As far as I can tell, you have not reacted to them yet. Just like BlackPink, they are an all-female rock & roll band, from Japan. But instead of choreography, they play music instruments & they play very very well, at top level. They have steadily been garnering fans over the years since 2014. They are not as huge as BTS or BlackPink, but perhaps it is because rock music is somewhat of a slowly dying breed around the globe. There are several KZbin channels that already react to this Asian trifecta: BTS, BlackPink & Band-Maid. Note, these 3 bands start with the letter "B" & are all "A's", i.e. Asian, as well as meaning a top notch school grade of "A". Practically every song in their discography is perfect, no lemons. Many old-school rock fans have professed that they have never been this interested & invested in such a band in 3-4 decades until they heard Band-Maid. Since Lucas is a drummer, he should listen to Akane, their drummer, who has been "endorsed" by Jimmy Page as a modern-day talent that people should be aware of. Band-Maid is also versatile in their genres & styles, so it's not all rock, but it is a main premise to their sound. They will also tap into metal, blues, progressive, jazz, traditional Japanese, maybe a sprinkle of hiphop, etc. Japan has been rocking since the 1950's, but the U.S. has probably not really been fully aware of that because the U.S. has been culturally isolated when it comes to rock music, up until rock was sort of dying within the States & rock fans had to find rock outside its border & look towards Europe & Asia. Please note that Band-Maid sings mostly in Japanese, but will litely put in English words, just like what BTS & BlackPink does, every now & then in their lyrics, but they do have at least 1 song in full English. So, if you have any interest in rock music, I hope you eventually put Band-Maid in your reaction queue. Any suggestions to what songs you want to initially want to listen to first, please let me know. Sorry for a semi-long comment, but I had to get a few details in. I did not really want to just comment "Please react to Band-Maid", as that seems lackadaisical, hasty or pretentious to me, heh.

Immersive over-stimulation. It's AMAZING. I guess maybe try the color-coded lyric videos for K-Pop songs before you see the M/Vs? Your frustration completely understandable, guys. The scene - Jisoo is being ignored by the press in favor her own magazine cover mural, until she makes a mistake/ mis-step, falls down and gets hurt; when she gets back up without help while wearing a leg brace, the anonymous dickheads are aiming their phones at her like guns - That scene was apparently Jisoo's own idea, or so I heard. I think it is a GREAT honest social commentary (and not just because it might have been her idea but because it is so true-to-life).

Great reaction. As to your comment regarding Jisoo falling, the explanation of the symbolism requires some context but the symbolism is pretty plain to understand for most Blinks that know BP's background. This whole song is one big FU to their haters. Since debut and before this song each of the members had been attacked on line, especially Lisa who had been the target of racist attacks, and had even been physically threatened to the point that the Thai Embassy in Seoul got involved. There is no secret here, Jisoo's scene is not only a commentary of the online netizens that have hated on BP, but that have hated on many other Kpop Idols, and this hate has resulted in many Idol suicides. At first the men are looking adoringly at "Celebrity" Jisoo, ignoring the real Jisoo that is walking right in front of them. So they are cherishing their idolized image of her and have no regard for the real person. When the real Jisoo falls (symbolizing some type of social blunder or personal mistake made by Jisoo) the men don't make any attempt to help her back up. In fact, they turn into masked assassins pointing their pistol grip cell phones at Jisoo to finish her off. Cell phones which not only have a camera that can capture embarrassing images of the idol, but also as a tool for internet social media attacks. The real Jisoo having stumbled and fallen has in their mind failed to live up to their idealized version of her and thus they pour out their hatred on her for failing to live up to their image of her. This is also driven by jealousy, where the men/hateful fans are living ordinary boring lives, they see their idols living the dream life style, and hate them for it. So any stumble is an excuse to go on full assault mode and bring that idol down.
