One of the things I've always enjoyed about Serena is she is as fierce a competitor as we've ever seen and she's still a girly girl at the same time. to be honest, does it really make THAT big of a difference. Because you'd see them have 3 balls, and then theyd inspect it, throw one on the ground before serving. And people say they choose the ball that would have the greatest speed. But idk if it's that big of a difference, or enough of a difference to make them have an advantage.

@@elijah.espino It depends on what kind of serve you want. Usually players tend to look for less fuzzy balls for the first serve, and if for fuzzier ones for the second serve. I think the fuzziness has something to do when they put spin in it and how the ball bounces when hit on different surfaces. Also it's common courtesy to inform your opponents that you are serving with new balls, I think it's for similar reason.

For me personally the grunt award goes to Azarernka V Sharapova ,,, when they played each other I just couldn't stop laughing specially when they tried to out grunt/ scream each other..... There were funny moments too when Serena played them Sharapova would actually stop screaming when she was pummeled corner to corner by Serena and Azarenkas screaming got quieter when Serena had ( not always) the bigger shots , as Serena often said Vica is one of the players who can really push me and keep coming at me ...

I actually didn't like her grunts, because it was selective, meaning she'd go for 5 or 6 shots without a grunt and then unleash a grunt (which seemed possibly distracting to me). But still way better than Sharapova and Azarenka. Good lord.

@@jefroid661 The only ones that grunt or shout are the top players, players down the rankings don't do it so it's got nothing to do with some involuntary action it's people like Serena or Sharapova essentially evoking an aggressive "Take that" verbalisation and its bad sportsmanship, it's interference the same as if a crowd member shouted and it should be banned. Now we've got Sabalenka doing it, another aggressive player like Serena and again, a top player. Kim Clijsters wasn't thrown by it because she was always good at staying focused but whether or no it's a distraction tactic.

I’m part of some team sports fandoms with historic rivalries, but even the best known football siblings didn’t directly play each other on the field. I maintain that Venus v Serena is the greatest sports rivalry ever. You can’t write that kind of stakes, drama, history. To sometimes be the thing standing in the way of the other’s goal being achieved? Your sister, your partner, the one person whose game you know as well as your own? Man. I’m not the most serious tennis fan but those matches always had me so invested. There was nothing like it and I don’t know when or if we’ll see anything like it again.

Grunting can definitely be annoying and for show...for example when grunts are done during a slice, which doesn't require much physical exertion, or when a player grunts AFTER a shot. For sure then, the grunt is just purely making noise LoL As for tennis elbow, it's the opposite of what Serena said. Tennis elbow is also known as lateral epicondylitis, so it's on the outside edge of the elbow.
