I would absolutely love to get my hands on a 1935 Ford panel truck like this to restore/rebuild into a road trip vehicle. They left the factory with strong frames that will easily handle the power of a 350 chevy which by the way is a bolt it. The 1935-1940 Ford frame is one of the easiest frames to bolt late model running gear onto wth tons of aftermarket backup. That rear axle you took out is a traditional Hot Rodder favorite for flathead powered cars and somebody will want it. The front I-beam axle you called junk is a forged axle that is far stronger that most of the replacement I-beam axles which are often cast. In an accident the original Ford Axle bends while the cast axle snaps. If you had advertised this before butchering it I would think you could have easily sold it for enough money to buy a decent camp trialer, probably with money left over too. I don't think you realized just how much potential this had as a car project. The VIN number is stamped on the top of the left frame rail right on the part you cut off. Lucky Ford also stamped a second and third VIN in the middle and towards the back on the left frame rail but they are kinda hard to find with the body on.

@@kimroper9946 Unfortunately this panel truck was a real diamond in the rough. I have spent a lot of time doing rust repair and gathering parts to resurrect old Fords of this era that were in far worse shape than this one so I really recognized the potential this panel truck had. Hopefully somebody can get their hands on it and restore it's dignity as a panel truck. Unfortunaely it's going to take some foot work and at least a grand to find a decent replacement frame to get the project going now, not to mention the hassle of scrounging up the cool early ford parts this guy removed from it. Decent early Ford panel trucks are much harder to find than pickups and many of the Ford cars of the era. If he had just dragged it home and put it up for sale he could have easily gotten enough money for it to buy a real decent little camp trailer and had money left over.

I did see many ways the old ford could of went, being that the metal was that nice..... you utilized it for what you needed it for and its cute if guys say "cute"... kind of tastes funny coming out of my mouth. Its still able to be restored should someone buy it from you to do just that. I see a work in progress as time allows you and some jingle lands in the pocket book. As a young fellow and a pretty girl with you.... that first suspension might of gave away any fun happening as they say... if its rocking, then don't come knocking! I see some sweet paint hiding under the years of setting in the weather. I don't see it happening in a weekend either as that stuff does take some time.. I understand that Derick came up with some kinds of different polishes that clean metals and bring back that old paint again. VVG has done some weird stuff in his time. So many many ways to make it a beauty and its already got a lot of class

I'll have to look into that. She's still a long ways from being complete, but I'm making sure to not cut anything that would stop her from being a driver down the road. @@farmfreshfabrication Absolutely! Those frames new were something to be desired. When you first started, thought you were going with a home built channel two by four frame till you mentioned the time and where this part was going. @1BSARoadRocket
@1BSARoadRocket Жыл бұрын
@@farmfreshfabrication There is no reason to put this on a different frame as it's a very strong frame from the factory. If you think a flathead powered car is a 35-55 mph car it means you have never driven one. Completely stock I would expect this panel to pull 80mph. Put a late model flathead in it and some gearing and brake upgrades and it will easily keep up with modern traffic. Elsewhere on youtube somebody took a 1935 Ford car which has the same frame and they made it into a lifted 4 wheel drive with a late model drivetrain and modern off road axles. Not my cup of tea but they kept the origial frame which makes it easy as it fits the body and fendrs nicely. Swapping frames is a recipe to ruin an old Ford and end up with a low value butcher job. Building a quality car takes fabrication skills which you have but it also takes an eye for esthetics and a respect for the original vehicle design as well as tradition.

I think you should mount the grill in front, fill in behind it with metal going back to the fire wall. Like an engine compartment for storage. I don’t like the expanded metal. Maybe tread plate. I’m not saying it’s not a great idea what your plan is just suggestions. I think a metal floor would be better than wood, and foam insulation on top of it. Just an idea. What about raising the roof , or maybe a hard sided pop up roof, with windows.
@farmfreshfabrication
@farmfreshfabrication Жыл бұрын
The grill I have is in phenomenal shape without any dents and they are impossible to find. If I could find one in rough condition, I would use it because I have to chop it in half for the body lines to meet up and I'd feel horrible doing that to mine. Metal is cold to sleep on, that's why I went with wood. I've got plans for a retractable roof so you can have it open to see the stars at night. It's also a cost factor as hard top pop ups are expensive usually.
