A great video, even with VHS and the sound brings back memories. I was a regular traveller over the line from Queen St to Arrochar between 1976 and 1991. Always enjoyed the traction and the scenery. When I began I was able to enjoy the run behind Class 27s in a 1st Class compartment coach - when I finished, we were crammed into Cl 156 dmu - hardly better than a bus.

Having now watched and enjoyed the two journeys, I think you did a top job, Roy. Great sounds and very acceptable video quality, lots of station stops and starts, passing trains, lovely scenery and the best locos. Brings back great memories.

I did this trip in 1987, and clearly remember the snarl of the 37 as it wound along the edge of Loch Lomond and beyond. How things have changed.

I made this journey in spring '86 with 2x 37s with the train dividing at Crianlarich. You never forget the awesome mountains and moorland (it was covered in snow then). Can't decide whether it's better than the run to Fort William, both are a wonderful experience. Thanks for another interesting run back through time, this is priceless 😃👍

Don’t worry too much about VHS quality, the sounds of the 37 more than makes up for it and 33 years later we can still appreciate that sound on the network today. Excellent video.

I love the West Highland line and as a guy in his 20s who loves a 37, I'm now wishing I was a fly on the wall in the '80s. This is the closest thing to a time machine, I'd be doing the same stuff you were. All the points of interest too, like stop boards and points set indicators in place but older physical tokens are still being issued by staff and signalmen, the closure of the old side of Oban station which is now a car park (a shame that) and the Lower Crianlarich branch not overgrown then - used by Speedlink trains I believe! Thanks a lot again, if you have any more west highland content and get time to edit something together, please do.

They were still using single line token working then then? The radio signalling must have come in later that year, would it have been?
@royharrison41223 жыл бұрын
Yes Andrei, The radio signalling was in progress at that time.

Hi Roy. Great footage. I have only been there since RTB came in; where was the passing place not at a station @4.26?
