Another one of my Scotrail Journeys on 28th May1986 with 37420 on the train to Kyle of Locchalsh often said to be one of the Great Railway Journeys of the World. I hope you enjoy watching.

I grew up in Kyle. I live a couple of miles outside of Kyle now but I miss the old Class 37 locos….real trains! I would’ve been 8 in 1986 and I was obsessed with the trains that came to Kyle. The smell of the diesel and the fact you could hear them long before you saw them. As kids we’d walk from Kyle along the railway track to the small islands so we could swim in the sea. Hearing the train getting closer was such a thrill - you’d get off the track and stand beside the fence as it passed by and it always made me so excited! Anyway, thank you for sharing this video. I used to travel to Muir of Ord to stay with my aunt for holidays and it’s these big trains I’d be packed off on, on my own. I loved it and this video has brought back many happy memories.

Loved the growel and the sound of the of class 37 diesel locos, I did a few midweek runs behind 37s from Carnforth to Carlisle in 2017 around the Cumbria coast via Barrow Ravenglass St Bees etc a beautiful scenery and the sound of that 37 diesel engine is incredible I was in the second carriage behind the loco. Great days 😊 out with a proper trains? Loved the video many thanks best wishes 😌 from Roger Vancouver island.

Pure bliss! Thanks once again for taking me back to a rail era I missed having virtually and wrongly rejected British Rail after the trauma of the Great Sixties Railway Massacre. I much prefer the atmosphere of slightly fuzzy VHS films to the eagle-eye prefect precision of today's video recorders. Each of your eighties videos are invaluable documents of a lost world. The pleasure is always immense.

I made this beautiful journey the first time just 1,5 years ago, but I can imagine how much better it must have been still behind a 37 instead of in a boring 156, although that in itself already is a veteran on this line. I think when this video was shot the introduction of the Sprinters wasn't that far in the future anymore? Luckily I still had the pleasure of a trip behind this particular loco, 37 420, on a day along the Cumbrian Coast line a couple of years ago.

Pure gold from start to finish. I loved every moment! Great to see the token exchanges with the signalmen, and the PW worker with shovel and flag. Brought back many happy memories of BR. Fantastic sounds and great scenery too! Thanks much Roy for sharing your wonderful archive material.

Brilliant video Roy & Thank you! When listening with head phones I can only get sound from the right side for some reason. Regards Kev.

Yes, Sorry about that Kev, somewhere in the transfer to DVD in past years I had lost the left channel and don't see now how I can restore it.

As a modeller it was a shame you faded out 37421's train before the last coach came into view.
@royharrison41224 жыл бұрын
Yes Neil, I realize that but it was because I was a passenger on the train and it was ready to depart as soon as 37421 had arrived in the platform. don't forget that this is my personal home video, There was no thought at that time of been able to share this on "You Tube" 30+ years in the future.
