Glass Bottle Wind Chime - Part 1 - Failed Experiment (Ep. 5)

I tried to make a wind chime out of a glass bottle. Although I was able to cut it the way I wanted to, there was another issue that came up. Any advice to overcome this obstacle would be appreciated!

I know you can trim glass with scissors underwater, and it will not shatter as it does in air. Perhaps you can score the small unbroken places and then tap the score lines underwater with a small hammer with a rounded head. The rounded head would probably be needed so to make as little contact as possible.

You might try a couple heat sucks with ice and boiling water might work I know this is a older video

It looks geometrically impossible due to the curvature of the neck. Had it been a straight cone, I think it would have worked. My only guess is you could make a narrow discardable spiral (as narrow as you are able) that you would intentionally break, to avoid the geometrical interlocking Thanks for posting mistakes. It's nice to remember that geniuses do learn from them ;) EDIT: Thinking it twice, it is not geometrically impossible because the diameter from top to bottom, never decreases. That would be the real theoric impossibility. But anyway I bet some ondulations in the cracks avoid sliding the spirals and interlock between them. So all in all, a narrow discardable spiral would solve it all.

I think you're correct on this. The irregularities in the cracks seem to be interlocking them all together. When I get a chance I'll add another narrow spiral that I can break away. This should work great. Thanks for sharing your idea!

Once you've separated the two strips, you could hit the strip to be removed to break it in the middle. 🤔

I was hoping to have 4 spiraled strips of glass, but I'm thinking you have the right idea. Maybe I should just make an extra split to break away. Thanks for sharing your idea!

You could also try rotating one out towards the top (you may have to angle it). It's kind of like a kongming/luban type burr puzzle where you have to figure out a way to slide a piece out and then the whole thing comes apart.

That's what I was originally planning to do, but the irregularities in the edges of the cracks act like teeth that keep the sections in place.
