There are several versions of GLASS HARP and Phil Keaggy playing JOHN THE REVELATOR here on YOU TUBE, so I wondered if I should share yet another.. After watching this a few times, I think anyone who is a fan of the band and Phil will no doubt be happy I did! This was recorded at Cain Park on Aug 2, 2003 and to me is one of the hottest versions ever! This jam starts with an amazing B3 solo from GLASS HARP sideman Chris Queen who really let loose! (Great job Chris!) and then a blistering solo from Phil. As always, the bottom was rock solid with Johnny and Daniel doing what they do best! Recorded with band permission and from the master 8mm in the orchestra pit!! Enjoy!!

Heard of him for decades but just started listening to his stuff. Uh wow. If he’s not the best (and he isn’t) he’s sure as hell up there. He can do it all. All styles. All genres. Electric. acoustic. Impeccable rhythm. Wow

@mulemusic Sweet post! A friend of mine told me about them several years ago (I had some of Phil's current solo work on CD) but he played me "Live at Carnegie Hall" or something like that and I was FLOORED! My fingers twitched...

The oft-quoted story that you're thinking of is that Jimi Hendrix said it. But Phil has repeatedly denied the story as being anything other than an urban legend, and there's absolutely no evidence that it ever happened. Phil HAS received quite a few shout-out's from other famous guitarists over the past 40 years, but he's a humble guy who just lets his guitar do the talking.

+James Muncy ~ I think he just mentioned Billy as someone he really liked to listen to. Now Jimi did once say to both a member of the band, Chicago, along with their manager that, "Your guitar player is better than me." Than was when Terry Kath was still alive. And Terry was better than him. Keaggy was better than both of them put together though even if no one said it.

I know Phil made his choice. But, if he had just spent some time pursuing a secular path, he would be known and recognized as one of the greatest guitar players ever. But, I know, I worry about it more than he does.
