I have all my semi hydro plants in glass containers and I feel like the aeration coming from the top is enough. I haven't had issues with airflow unless my water level is too high. It's good that you emphasize that it's what you prefer instead of what is THE best way. Alot of plant care advice given by some people is too my way or the highway. Their way of doing things is the best and anything else is subpar. I see the points made here are totally valid. I just prefer the way I'm doing it now aesthetically and it hasn't been giving me any issues either. Each person does what works best for them. I pretty much learned all I know about semi hydroponics from you though so I am very thankful for this educational content.❤

I am so glad you think so. I try to be balanced and acknowledge I don't know everything, and what I think might not work works perfectly well for others. I do love the glass vase aesthetic but I know myself and I know I could never pull it off!😁

@@TheLecaQueen- I bet you could totally make glass vases work. Is this me challenging you (playfully)? If is 😉 But also, no pressure. You’ve clearly found an approach that works well for you 💚

@@TheLecaQueen sure you could pull it off. I put some black paper around the part of my vase being hit by the most light to cut down on algae. If you want to save time give it a try. I don’t really see the difference between sitting in a catch pot or all in one with Leca reservoir. Air goes down from the top of the vase👍🏻 My primary reason for moving most of my collection was a 3 week trip abroad. And….. I don’t have anymore plants water indicators that have gotten stuck on me on many occasion. Even my lechuza pots have let me down. I’m looking at the little red stick thinking all is well and the reservoir is bone dry. I told my son if there is no water in the brown balls fill it to just shy of where they meet the other media. I have some “difficult “ anthuriums and I didn’t lose a single plant. That’s what sold me. I’ve done large scale aquaponics with net pots and beds that fill with water twice a day. That’s the only thing g easier as the fish did all the work and the pump lol

I have peace lillies & anthuriums in glass jars with leca & they're THRIVING. But not all plants enjoy so much water. So i think it depends on the plant.

90% of my large collection are in glass no drainage. I use grow in drainage pots and have had much better growth with no drainage. Even my clarinervium and snake plants love it. Gone are my crispy anthuriums. Leca reservoir on the bottom and pon or soiled mix on the top. I even mix some spag in with the pon.

The plants around you are SO spectacularly beautiful and so well arranged that, for a fraction of a second, I thought it was one of those fake backgrounds one can add during video calls. Goodness gracious, if I had a space like that, I wouldn't be able to leave the house. I have to reconsider my life! Hahahahaha!

Thank you so much! The good news is that they are all real and all in leca. No potting mix in sight. The bad news is that it is staged for the video, so i had to arrange everything and then put them all back!! The pain of not having a studio set up in my home. mic

Thank you! I have some plants in glass containers, but they are starters. As soon as they begin developing really good roots and I know they're well adapted to growing in semi-hydro, I move them to "net" pots with a cachepot.

What I find difficult in the no drainage setup is flushing. Also, algae… but that happens even in the submerged with drainage setup, if the pots are clear.

Nah, air molecules are very tiny and can get down through the leca just as well in a glass jar as in a submerged pot with holes on the side. :) Also, if I buy a cold drink in an outdoors bar in summer, I will get a lot of condensation on that glass. That's not because this outdoors bar is badly ventilated but because of humidity. ^^

The comments I hear about oxygen not making it to the roots in a no drainage setup does give me pause (not picking on one person because it’s commonly mentioned). If oxygen wasn’t making it to my plant’s roots, how have my plants been growing so well for years in vessels without holes? And never mind that, the most common way people grow plants indoors is in pretty dense soil in pots with a limited number of holes for drainage that are blocked by saucers most of the time. I made the move from more traditional setups because I wanted more growth and I was over the maintenance of emptying saucers. I’m so glad I did. My maintenance decreased and my plants grow better. I do think the net pot approach is likely best for the widest range of plants and is most likely to result in the most rigorous growth but not everyone needs super rigorous growth. Moderate growth, in easy to find inexpensive vessels, that look nice is nice. And the other drawbacks can be easily managed. But either way, I’m glad there are options.

My monstera is growing in a big glass jar roots are so healthy, no smell, no algae’s, I do not put any sauce fertilizer. I also have Leica net pot and reservoir growing well without any fertilizer. In Canada having short summer, still growing well near my patio windows. I give bath evert 3 weeks.

Well I tried your method before and didn't worked out, maybe it was the micro environment of my house... But for me what really works is the jar made of glass with no wholes! My spider plant and alocasia frydek just love it, they are under sansi grow light and in leca and pon, thriving!!

I just transferred a few of my plants back to soil because they haven’t taken to LECA in the last 6 months. Is that normal? They’re just green heartleaf and brasil pothos, but they weren’t thriving nearly as well as the others in the same room.

For me it depends on the plant. Some grow very well for me in enclosed vessels with a mix of treen fern vermiculite and others I strictly keep in leca with drainage. If I could I would move them all to leca but alas I am not the Leca Queen😂
