People often forget that comedy is one the original two genres of theater alongside tragedy. People who think comedy should be removed in order to improve characters our story need to look at video game series like devil may cry in which Dante is way more beloved in the third and fourth games then the first because he went from brooding edgelord to a ham and cheese sandwich with a side of sugar

Also the funny thing is that most cartoons that are geared towards an older audience are comedies.

A semi-good example of how story is more important than animation or presenting a point: Hoodwinked. It's animation is only really passable at best and the only thing closest to a point is "don't judge things at face value". However, the creators of the films have directly said that they only really cared about telling a good story through animation.

I often remember the comedy over the 'mature storylines'. I grew up with Teen Titans reruns and LEGO: Ninjago, and they were comedic overall, not the epitome of mature and dark storylines.

Lily, I've never commented on your channel before, but I've been watching for a long time. I'd like to thank you for all you do, because it got me to not only think more critically about my opinions, but to help me better understand WHY I held those opinions in the first place and properly express them. This topic reminds me of when I was a kid, I was TERRIFIED of growing up, thinking it would mean I'd have to like "boring" adult stuff, like watching the news and court shows and couldn't watch cartoons anymore. That I'd have to give up on everything enjoyable that it was to be a child, as if there was some kind of change/switch that flips when you get older. As I did get older, and this magic change never happened (much to my idiot self's relief), I began to realize I don't need to validate my enjoyment of 'childish' humor or silly things, nor did I have to give any of it up. Growing up doesn't have to mean you forget all that and everything you like HAS to be mature or gark and gritty. Heck with that. It just means there's MORE styles of humor or serious themes you can enjoy; you don't need to choose one over the other outside of simple personal taste. I'm 34 years old, and things like fart jokes are still funny. And if they ever stop being funny, someone come over and forcefully remove the stick from my ass.

Im a fan of this web toon called Eddsworld. Technically, the show was supposed to be a continuous comedy show, with episodes following after episodes. It was cute and funny and throughout the years it improved in style. (The final episode titled 'The End' featured the missing character coming back and betraying the other main cast to take over the world.) That episode was eaten alive by the fans.

If anyone tries to argue with me that Teen Titans is suppose to be more mature, I just point out the fact that the original series they loved so much changed its main villains name from Deathstroke the Terminator to simply Slade.

This honestly makes me rethink A lot of things I thought were true about older shows and just cartoons in general.

To me, humor is important to animation and live action because if it's always dark and sad throughout the entire run time, then what's the point? It's why I enjoy the MCU more than the DCU. Sure, it's great to emotional moments and dark moments, but they have to mean something, otherwise it's going to be very obvious to the most critical eye that you're trying way too hard to be "mature".

I didn't know people to Avatar The Last Airbender to be serious. It was a goofy lovable show with goofy lovable characters and _some_ serious moments that really outlined the series and did contrast against the normal run of the show. Guess that's what I get for not participating in the fandom more... and being a child at the time... Is that I subconsciously hated Legend of Korra post 1st season? Eh, maybe. You make a lot of great points and, honestly... I don't see why people have to make such distinctions. Who's going to attack you for liking a kid's show? People who don't deserve that respect in the first place? Harry Potter is one of my favorite books, Gravity Falls ties in with Avatar the Last Airbender for my favorite TV series, and How to Train Your Dragon 1/2 is my favorite movie and I'm eagerly awaiting the 3rd movie. I'm not a kid anymore, but I still love those stories. They're fun but have serious undertones when they need it. So... why are people so sensitive about this topic again? Must we show off how "manly" or "adult" we are by watching characters kill other characters or sex scenes?

This actually made me think of all those fan animations of making Pokémon 'dark and realistic,' but the only thing it did was do the tired idea of, "Hey look Pokémon is legalized dog fighting! Look, see that Pokémon suffer slowly and painfully in gruesome detail? See how dark it is?!" It never tackled the moral implications of making sentient creatures fight in the anime's or game's in-universe logic (like Team Plasma but actually go through with it rather than chicken out to keep the status quo and pin the blame on the bad leader without ever asking again) what it normally did was just draw animals with pokemon colors, throw them in an underground gambling dog-fighting ring, and animate them suffering. It always felt cheap.

I watched the short film you mentioned (Borrowed Time) and to be honest, it would have been good if it wasn't made with the explicit purpose of proving animation can be for adults. it is a genuinely sad story that would be good if the creators weren't whinny little piss babies

Someone is flagging your videos. I went to respond to a reply you made to one of my comments, and couldn't access the video to do so. A big part of me thinks you're doing something right when you make the "in seven minutes videos," but this is the third one I've noticed, and it's concerning.

By the way, using the term "Babu" in that manner is cultural appropriation. It is used by Indian parents to call young children and should only be used in that context.
