BDubs, the way Xisuma ages his copper blocks in bulk involves putting a full 2d layer of fully oxidized copper blocks down, then putting a full 2d layer of unoxidized blocks on top of that. It slows down the oxidation rate of individual blocks, actually, but since he can oxidize 16 blocks in the space it used to take to oxidize 1, the overall rate of oxidations per minute is faster. If you've got a small number of copper blocks, the fastest way to oxidize them is still to put them 4 blocks apart.

as someone who recently swapped from survival to creative on a world, i found i no longer have the urge to build with a purpose, i used to build things like storage for certain block/item types like you, and i used to mix form and function, such as a working forge for smelting that tells me when im low on fuel by cutting the fire out of a chimney. so id say survival is definitely the way to go, creative completely changes how you perceive the game in ways people might not expect

In regards to if survival is holding you back, as a writer, what I learned for magic systems is that limitations breed creativity. It's more interesting what your magic can't do than what it can. That can be adapted to minecraft building in a way. The limited resources and harder to get resources can cause you to think outside the box for substitutes. And sometimes the infinite resources and amount of blocks can cause choice paralysis or cause you to think too big and forget the smaller details. Just my perspective.

i think the survival aspect adds a lot, gives purpose to the buildings, gives it life, a story, and a greater sense of accomplishment. the biggest thing seems to be the purpose of the buildings though, they wouldn't feel anywhere near as special or justified if they didn't serve an actual purpose, and the form is often informed by the actual function which i think is beautiful. creative tends to diminish the "why", and i think the "why" is the engine behind most architecture, architecture is a solution - creative mode has no problems.

I feel like you are very right about the creative mode concept; as someone that has built in creative for a VERY long time then moved to survival, it really does feel like most blocks are sacred in their own special way. every stair feels like it's handled with care, and when you see large projects that you worked on in the past, it feels better than something that was built quickly in creative. I see creative more like the dress rehearsal to the actual play that is survival. With enough rehearsals, you memorize how things work and how blocks fit together.

Xisuma put oxidized under. Not next to. Apparently the vertical alignment matters. 🤷♀️ I considered the white glass in the greenhouse represented the mist indoors caused by the temperature difference from outdoors. 🤔 Such small spaces! Ideally, one would have vertical windows with mostly clear glass in the middle, some misty white in upper corners and a bit of the top, green in lower corners that would be in shadow because of awnings or trees or North side of building. Maybe panes would make some of this possible?🤷♀️ Scientifically, clear glass allows the most natural food for photosynthesis. Fun stuff: red light = shorter plants but more fruit/flowers, blue = more, heavier fruit, shorter plants, iffy depending on plants requiring long or short day.

6:30 i mean i think the thing is that a large part of the satisfaction in the creative process of minecraft is the collection element. like yes obviously creative mode exists and for those who just want to build impressive things it will always be there. but a part of the satisfaction in survival and a part of the fun watching stuff like Hermitcraft IS knowing it was all aqquired by hand. its the same satisfaction you get when you know a painting was made by the artist collecting their own flowers and making their own dyes. like they couldve just brought paints but instead they made their own for this specific purpose.
@ProjectKhopesh2 ай бұрын
That's the thing, though; it's perfectly possible to make masterwork paintings without doing all the prep work by hand. The art itself can and should be able to stand on its own. Sure, it's fine to appreciate the extra work someone spends on the back end, but it's not necessary for fine art. It's absolutely possible for someone to be held back by sinking all that time in on the invisible front end because their time practicing the craft of painting is limited by practicing the craft of prepping.
@RePorpoised2 ай бұрын
@@ProjectKhopesh something another said was that survival encourages detail work. The place will have a tangible presence, he'll be around it often enough to appreciate a properly done interior, thus it becomes easier to remain motivated to do things, and do them well. Being able to create faster is nice, but the motivation to create needs to come from somewhere. It's thus better to have more reasons why you would want to build something, instead of merely "because i wanted to" and little more. It's likely why people have processes they follow. It gives them time to breathe between ideas, to work their way up to their project. But it is a fair point, that too much prepping can halt things. For most people, survival and creative become two extremes, one demands great amounts of time to prep, the other almost none at all. I suppose a fair balance is the Hermitcraft server. Prep work can be dramatically sped up with a few diamonds or a nice little trade deal. That's part of the fun of playing on a server with infrastructure.

To make a way for the waterfalls to be possible without having to build a big lake at the top or something could be to make a moorland at the top. While it may be a little bit not 100% real world accurate rivers do start at moorlands usually. So using mud and podzol, and coarse dirt mixed in with brown and grey glass and some plants could make a nice old big moorland. Never know could be a good work around. Also for the river at the bottom of the mountain, if you made some parts human engineered then making a water lock and barges would be a really fun addition and could make a way for it to connect to the higher elevation areas.
@mikekuppen62562 ай бұрын
If you´re going to have a high natural waterfall it´s generally coming out of the side of a mountain, not from the top. Technically the top could work if you had a big plateau but otherwise it´s unlikely for there to be a marsh OR a lake up there. Especially if you have a big ole waterfall draining the water all the time. Looks pretty though.

9:56 is exactly what makes survival special, there’s story and excitement to the special flower now finding a home in the greenhouse, in creative it would have just been some detail item you picked out of the menu the first time you built it and the world would be less alive because of it.

22:15: The word you were trying to think of was "canal". What you're intending to build sounds more along the lines of a channelized river; the river's existence and rough placement is from a natural cause, but people have forced it into a singular path with man-made walls, and often a straighter path. A canal is similar, but might not occur along the natural path of a river. The straighter paths mean the water runs faster. The man-made walls mean the river's path is literally set in stone, instead of changing like it naturally wants to over the years. A river is usually channelized because people are building close to it and need the path to stay the same, but this practice often increases the risk of destructive flooding, as, again, the water is already moving faster, and the natural banks have been removed where the river used to be able to swell during a flood event, cranking the pressure up to move the water even faster.

BDUBS! At 6:26 you broke two stained glass that you didn't replace at 6:54! Edit: Is there actually a limit to your artistic talent? Not only are the videos edited perfectly, the building is hands down the best i've ever seen in minecraft. I would have never thought a human could achieve this level of detail, yet here it is. The top of the mountain is really flat, if you introduce some height variation, some carved away rocks and the river splitting on a large boulder, add a lake on another, even higher, large step on the mountain where the river that produces the waterfalls originates, and have a few more stoney slopes on that step behind the lake, it would really tie the whole thing together. Also as a tip, to make the large waterfalls more plausible, you could thin them out a bit more on the top, as many real waterfalls do. The wind on the sharp edge disperses the water, make it look more than it is, so the actual source of the waterfalls doesn't even have to be that large.

I have your waterfall answer! I have always loved hiking to Intermittent Spring in Afton, WY. Look it up. It is a very rare type of spring, but comes right out of the side of a mountain.

The inside of that mountain will never be filled, I won't tell Etho.

a forest and river would look so great within your world, like imagine this big sequoias underneath that bridge would help it stand out even more, it would be so impressive going from under the canopy and revealing the tower

You could use soulsand to make the water bubble out of the mountain like a freshwater spring.

Bdubs! How bout a crater lake for the water source at the top of the mountain?

One detail that I've been adding to my builds, would be puddles. In areas that I imagine would rain alot, I add little puddles in places where I think water would build up. I don't know if it would work in your builds, but it is very easy to do so it might be worth a try!

Placing the spore blossom opposite the cherry leaves would pull the pink contrast into the green and also give you the green particle effect coming from that side of the greenhouse!! Really appreciate the change to the green glass looks incredible! The rain is a nice look for a short period of time as well! Haha

Personally i love rain period, irl, in any game etc. I recommend a resource pack called Angels Weather, it changes the rain texture a bit to look less harsh but still look like heavy ish rain. Also changes the sound which is pretty nice

For the why with the waterfall in the mountain, we have something in Florida call aquifers, which is essentially a spring which comes from underground and constantly fills our springs with fresh water which is actually where we get our drinking water from as well, so maybe you can put a small spring or something up there and you can have a cave full of water

I like seeing the rain in the Minecraft videos - the nice atmosphere translates through the screen, and the change in brightness isn't so much that it's annoying or anything. If anything, it's a little easier on the eyes than the bright sunny sky sometimes.

You are one of the best, if not the best builders there is. Now i see how you got so good. You not only study what youre trying to build but you study shadows/highlights, shapes, color theory, and you arent affraid to push yourself to try knew techniques. I admire how far you go to make your build as incredible as they are.

8:31 I think the rain is unique to the game, but when visually enhancing a world like the better clouds mod, I like using a mod called 'particle rain' it enhances the rain in a client-side manor and is for fabric :)

Another reason I like building in survival is the challenge of figuring out how to build without being able to just fly around. It's much more satisfying to me to know both that I collected the resources, crafted the blocks, and figured out how to place them.

I love rain in Minecraft, it's so cozy and atmospheric. I never understood KZbinrs hatred for it, they always blame not using it because it ruins the quality of the video, but I've never noticed or thought that? I'd love to see more in videos!

Bdubs, I think you should turn that outcropping into a tepui...no mystical water source needed! (Look up Mount Roraima for reference.)

I just went to Norway this August, and the waterfalls you made remind me so much of the many I took pictures of there. I've actually been experimenting with glass waterfalls myself the last few months, and both yours and all the ones I've seen have been a massive inspiration. Keep up the good work!

i really like seeing bdubs go back and change the texturing and colour work on previous builds - it's a nice way to keep everything in the same style as his style evolves :)

I think one of the reasons the glass river worked so well on hermitcraft is the smaller scale and dimmer environment under the trees. Here, I think I think there needs to be more contrast in the "water," maybe some white concrete up top. The jutting stone cliffs would throw shadow on the water lower down. Incredible build, still!
@HelioSmith2 ай бұрын
I love the waterfalls! Perhaps having a large statue/stone carving at the top of the mountain with water coming out of its mouth would be a good why for where the water comes from.

I think it is such a cool thing to see you go back to old builds and update them, it makes the old builds still feel relevant and still part of the world, would be cool to see the other stuff you will eventually update in the future!

copper aging is based on random ticks that only happen in a fixed range around the player. simulation distance does not change the random tick range.

I absolutely love the rain once I have my base set up with the best kind of lighting. Just enough to mob proof the area but still aesthetic and moody. I can run around at night and in the rain and experience a different atmosphere without fear of mobs
