I never understood why someone would buy a box that mainly contains stuff they don't like/collect or even want to collect. I never collected Tyranids because the main troops looked bad and now that they don't I'm getting the Tyranid half of the set, simple as.

Firstly GW can't forecast well at all, we've had too many examples of this. Secondly, I hope you are right about being prepped for this release and being available for months, would massively screw over the scalpers in the best way

Typically the start-of-edition boxes are decently stocked. Indomitus was pretty easy to get hold of even before it went to made-to-order, and Dominion was easy to find as well. Even in the height of the pandemic GW were able to get that right 😂

Because you have a Deathwatch army and you'll have to cut off all those shoulder pads like you did with Indomitus. It was the worst time of my life, and I'm going to do it again.

I recently got into the hobby and also choose Deathwatch and unfortunately GW still selling models where you still have to cut out the shoulder pads (outriders and eliminators), but luckily the rest of the Space Marine line up just requires a swap…but having to do that for those few models was enough to push me away from this release. I wish you luck tho.

I think this will really help me decide - I think like a lot of us the "new shiny" draws me in like a moth to a flame. But in reality, I don't collect Tyrnanids (yet), I have rather a lot of space marines, some of which are still unpainted. The book sounds surplus to requirements and the cards alone will probably retail at less than £20. eBay for the dreadnought maybe and I'll probably be happy! The other thing is all the "trimmings" that will no doubt come after, like new terrain, a couple more units for each side in the box. The advantage of data cards will be their physicality so I see them as one of the most necessary purchases of the new edition. Don't worry about fillers anyway, when more than half the articles on WarCom are fillers!

I love how people keep saying it's too expensive. Seriously..... If you want just one 1000pt army it will cost you almost $500 US. But this box gives you two 1000pt armies for $250 US. So you basically get a whole army and all the extras free. And still saving money compared to buying one army. So you can see why i have a hard time thinking how is it to expensive. I'm on disability with a tiny limited income. And even i don't think this is expensive. I think this is absolutely incredible, especially if it's always been money that kept you from getting into Warhammer.

Outside of SM and Nids players, and those looking to start these armies, theres no reason to buy this other than having the "new exciting thing" and stressing about it is not fruitful. I missed the Indomitus box when it dropped. I was pressed to get one, its just at the time they were still on the second hand market for crazy prices. Here I am now on the cusp of 10th edition and Im just now wanting a Necron Indomitus half and luckily they are still on the market and are reasonably priced. Also I predict this box will at the very least survive 24 hours online on the GW site. I would be extrememly surprised if it makes its through the weekend it launches. And finding it stores I could see lasting a week minimum. The local game store I started with in the hobby, still had a couple Indomitus sets left even after 8 moths or so

I guess its pretty fine and reasonable box for me, I can print more proxy units if I want as I have resin printer and one full Saurians squad already printed

It's only a bargain, if it's something you want, spending £150 (£130 retail) on this if you don't like the contents is not a bargain, spending £150 on something because it's roughly 60% less than it would be to buy each part separately is not a good reason to buy, unless it is something you want, a saving is only a saving if it's money you would have spent anyway. If you are thinking of starting 40k, this is probably not the box for you, assuming a new starter set is coming, that would be a far better fit.

I printed the core rules from my local library for $10 in black and white then put them in a binder. It's not hard cover or color, but it doesn't have all the fluff which is nice.

I agree that it is blatantly obvious now that we've seen the actual datasheets that this is not a starting box, this is a whale box. Neither side has any real synergy and the units feel more like they were thrown together simply because they're new units. Previous launch boxes all had synergy and a personality for the armies they contained. If anything, I would say my singular reason to not buy this box is because it is extremely obvious that the units contained within are not complete. Wait for the multipart kits, since GW stated that every codex will be accompanied by new kits. Even more egregious is that if the datasheets for these units in the box are in their final forms for the editions, then it doesn't look good for either army. Terms missing weapon options, Infernus squad lacking wargear completely, neurogants mentioning a model that apparently doesn't exist and has zero rules associated with it, screamer-killer having a lackluster profile, the winged (not shrike...?) prime being just a garbage leader, the apothecary biologis existing, and the potential for continued homogenization of factions is not looking good.

I Don't think it's the final form of the units, tyranids and SM Are getting their codexes soon into 10th edition, I believe the lack of wargear of Infernus and ballistus among other things is because they won't get a full kit release before codex (as they said they will release models along with each codex) (maybe this applies to terminators as well) (I believe the Neurogant node beast is the one slightly more brainy model among them, but just like sergeants of marines, it is not different to the standard ones as of now)

@@aligaterr5137 It's difficult to say, but GW has stated that very few datasheets are going to change over this edition and the SM datasheets have wargear on them that doesn't appear to be on the sprues. Additionally, they indicate different models on the datasheets, but no rules references for them, so it's mixed signals.

I wonder when actual starter-boxes for 10th Edition will be released? I would be very interested. Leviathan is just too bloated for me - my pile of shame is big enough. Plus I personally don't like the Tyranid design. One or two Tyranids I could paint but 47?! I'll admit - I was on the Leviathan hype train there for a few days until I noticed Shatterpoint (seems like a more reasonable number of models for me to try to paint).

I do want the book, and am in negotiations with people who have evolved beyond the need for paper, to help them feed their plastic addiction by selling me the book that they don’t want. I love books in general, and think GW does an outstanding job, artistically, with producing beauty. I don’t want the models. Well, I want the four Space Marine characters but that’s four out of 72. Not a good ratio. And yet, every time I see this box, I have a internal struggle with my obsession to buy plastic. But so far, the angel of logic is holding fast against the daemon of acquisitiveness.

I’d put little faith in GWs ability to supply stores. The small hobby shop in my town tried to place their order with their rep yesterday and was told they will be allocated only 3 boxes. The store needed 15. One of the biggest stores in the state was only allocated 60 boxes, and that is one of the biggest stores in the entire Southeast US. I feel GW is hoarding their own supply for strictly online sales for themselves. And we know how those typically go over.

Yeah I was discussing with my fiancé if I really should get this box. I bought the indomitus as my first box set ever and it was a great deal. Same for this one but I’m really slow at painting and as we all know the models on the box are never optimal. I ended up swapping all the units in the indomitus out of my army minus the captain with shield and blade guard. I’m really excited for 10th and that terminator Libby and new dread are amazing. But that’s not enough to spend $250 lol. I’ll just paint up my old stuff and finally finish my tanks now that they are playable and I’m sure it’ll be great

The biggest reason I'd say not to buy Leviathan is that the monopose models are going to come out as proper kits relatively soon and unless you collect both nids and marines, you're better off buying just those kits.

I have been hearing nothing but reports of stores being limited to 2 or 3 boxes. My store was told they were only allocated 2 copies but 6 people requested the box. I'm sure GW has made plenty, but they're not letting the local games stores sell it - they're going to save the bulk to sell from their own website.

I'll come out and say it. The indominus box had two 1,000-point armies for 200usd. You got 60 models the core book and some extra things. Now people are making it a great deal for you to get two combat patrol boxes for 50usd more. Of course you get more models, it has nids. This kind of seems like a step back.

Here are a few: 1) splits the target demo so it fails. Push fit suck for core players as they want options to build out their army. Great for new players, but the box contains neither a measuring device or dice. 2) Factions in the box are not remotely balanced or Tyranids aren't even playable out of the box based on the released cards. Only contains 2 ripper swarms you require at least 3 based on the datacards. GW added a bunch more Tyranid models to their battle showcase.

the only negative that I can see (and this doesn't affect me) is that the 2 x armies in the box are not balanced, and the space marines will roll over the nids. This is the only thing.

Yes. The combat patrols for tyranids and space marines are shown in this book and they are made up of the contents of the leviathan box.

Great explanation for people who might be starting. Even your why to buy were negatives to me but then you explained some of these with the leviathan box is not a starter box. I think the biggest drawback with the 10th edition is the scale. I watched another video that demonstrated the models are bigger than the old models. Now I can't buy Leviathan as it is unbalanced and can't add models to balance it as they aren't to scale.

If you want the box, get it, but for me, I have space marines and am not getting it because certain chapters can't use this box well. I play ravengaurd, and nothing in this box works for us besides the phobos lieutenant, but more than likely, you have one anyway. Never by Space Marines because you think you need them buy them because you either will use them constantly or for the flavor of your chapter.

I think so! This box will appreciate in value so you'll hold on to it, but then by the time you're ready to sell, everyone will have realised there is zero value in the space marine side as everyone only wants the latest ones, and the tyranid side will have been replaced by non-monopose sculpts, so the net worth will be purely nostalgic, and honestly that's where all the money is made!
