About to start a major restoration on a 1990 Grady White Marlin 300, and I must say, your videos are the most helpful. Although the work was not on a GW, the concept is the same and I truly appreciate you taking the time to do this for all of us here who come to KZbin and look for ways to do new projects. Thank you from the Marshall Islands!

J, I have watched all of your videos on the Glastron up to this point, and just wanted to say that it is a a pleasure to watch your perfection "ism" and your talent!! You have done an amazing job, and gone above and beyond on everything you have tackled. She is going to be a beautiful boat when you are done!!! I'm 55 yrs old here and grew-up on a '74 StarCraft Tri-hull with a 50hp Mercury and your videos have brought back many fond memories:) You have done such a commendable job on the classic girl!! Wishing you the very best as you get Her completed and back on the water:) David

I wish I could find a video series like this for a 14' V bottom Aluminum boat. Just to get ideas on the best way to attack different issues I'm running into. I just found this today and saving it if I ever get a glass fixer upper. Tons of information to soak up.

An interesting way to cut the foam out of the holes so you can install the cut out caps is to use a router with a straight cutting bit. I used a 1/2" bit myself. Then adjust the depth so you have enough room for the glues and the wood caps to go back in. It cuts them perfectly clean and ready to put the caps back in. Just an idea.
@jmink6 жыл бұрын
I bet that would work nicely. In my case, I didn't have a router so paddle bit to the rescue.
@garymucher95906 жыл бұрын
Yea, that would stop the router usage for sure. You need to buy a used or very cheap one for such things. They come in handy for so many issues. I did basically the exact same thing you are presently doing to your boat. Except for the boat style, it is the same type work so far. Thumbs up!

I know this is super old but I was wondering how you removed the cap off the boat. I just bought a 1977 tri-hull and I'm needing to do all of what you're doing here. The last boat I did, I didn't remove the cap and it was a pain to do.

Hey man, I enjoy watching your videos and like how you document everything. You do good work man. I found your videos because I have a 1972 Starcraft American15 that needs a transom. It was my childhood boat that my dad gave me. I got it last year after it sat for 11 years. I took it out on the water last year and had a blast, but I do not trust the transom anymore. You've inspired me to take on the challenge of doing this type of restoration to my boat. Looking forward to watching more of your progress.. any eta on your next video?
@jmink7 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Pierce thank you sir! I love hearing stories like yours, so cool to be able to restore a piece of your family history. I have gotta get myself back on the computer and edit the video I've got shot, not sure when it'll be online, but it will happen soon!
@andypierce19877 жыл бұрын
jmink how are you going to fasten the seats to the floor? You've done everything possible to ensure there is no possible way for water intrusion, I'm curious if you have a way to make sure water can't into the floor via the seat lags.
@jmink7 жыл бұрын
ha ha, have you been inside my head? I've been planning and replanning the seat fastening phase. Let's just say I've almost made up my mind.

I was so disappointed when I found it that this was the last video of the series that you had uploaded, Ive really enjoyed watching your work! I was recently gifted an old Glastron V156, and am excited to get it working. We finally got our engine to turn over last week, so now its time to buckle down and start fixin up the interior. We're going to be using this boat for primarily fishing, so I plan on putting an elevated deck over the front section, and taking out those cushions. The only thing that's holding back our work is money, and the fact that I can't find a plan view of the boat that gives me the dimensions. Do you by chance have a photo or diagram of that? I'm an architecture major in college, and I'd like to draw out my plans before I start cutting away haha. Keep up the great work!

+harrison dirks I'm sorry that you've run out of videos to watch! I am working on the next installment though. I don't have a diagram to share, but I do have a photo album you are welcome to look through to see if anything helps, www.flickr.com/photos/minkproductions/sets/72157640220056226 Thanks for watching and for commenting, I appreciate it! @jmink7 жыл бұрын
+nightmaregizmo thanks for watching! I'm happy to hear you are working on your boat. Don't worry about being new to fiberglass it will be easier than you think. Just make sure you have the tools you need and do the prep work. Everything else will fall into place with a little elbow grease. Thanks for the comment and well wishes, I'll probably never stop making videos about the boat as long as I have her. Stay tuned!

hi im doing new floor on my 14' runabout i did the fiberglass stringers and almost ready to install new floor my ? is why did u pour the foam ? im living on 32' fiberglass boat and there is no foam at all so look like sealed fiberglass with stringers two 350 mercs and straight shaft is doing the job whats the reason to pour foam to way smaller boat ?? what i understand is if i sealed properly the new floor to the hull cut one inspection access to put bilge pump in case of emergency and i should be just fine if the deck floor is installed properly the air in between the floor and the hull will give some flotations then when accident happen the water cant go above the floor because is sealed with some bilge pump we could pump out the water under the floor do i missing something ?

Thanks for all the good info. I am about to start my first voyage of redoing a 18ft seagull cat. Great helpful information. Just curious how many gallons of foam did it take and what lb density was it? Thank you
@jmink5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Good luck with your Seagull Cat. What size motor will you be running? I ended up using two of the 2lb Foam Kits sold by U.S. Composites. Also, I have a video that I put together going over all of the fiberglass materials used in total if you're interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5C3lqJ8o5WqnZY

@@jmink You have no idea how interested I am about restoring your boat. Lived my whole life on Gulf Coast of Florida in small town Port St. Joe and Panama City Fl and been looking and looking for the perfect boat I wanted. Right before Hurricane Michael I purchased it. I was not wanting to buy a project and something start taking out by March Madness. Yall might be thinking what in the World you mean by that. Becusae that is always about the time of the year the water starts warming up towards 70 and the Redfish and Sheepshead are so thick. The last 2 months now is been researching and studying and purchasing materials and drawing up how I want to do it and now the projects starts Wednesday morning . Most came with 70 and 90hp on them. Mine is a 175 Johnson Ficht with 280 hrs on it. Brand new hydraulic steering and Lenco trim tabs. It also came with nice t top w/electronic box. Came with a wise cooler seat and really good condition besides good cleaning. But I wanted a lean post preferably one that has live well. They run around 2 grand and I got lucky and found one on craigslist for $200. I bought boat from a guy that just recently bought it from its original owner that I know. Boat ran like a dream and he figure he just had one small soft spot to repair. Once he started . He realized he needed to just put me floor in. From researching I found on this boat. The first year of seagull boats ,they put not a very good wood and the floors went bad. Nautico bought the hull the following year and went composite and larger engine. People raved about the ride. He started but ran our of time and money and luckily I was there. He did alot of the hardwork for me. He gutted it all out and prepped it mostly already. I have a blank canvas and building my dream boat. Sorry so long of text. You would not think ol 47 year old sound like a kid in candy store. But all of us men know how I feel. Thank you for so much knowledge on ways to do things. I have always done projects for myself or fixed it.

jmink, I'm getting ready to pull the cap off of my boat and I am planning on leaving it on the trailer and just putting a couple braces on the sides. I was wondering if you think this would be alright?
@jmink7 жыл бұрын
+GK Fishing that's what I did. Just make sure you take measurements of the hull width below the cap line before and after the cap removal. If you take the cap off and the hull has spread out you can try and brace it back to it's proper resting width.
