As a long time fan of Deftones AND Glassjaw, I don't know how anyone could mix the two up. Just because they are both smooth as fuck,with heavy bass tones and ethereal vocals, doesn't mean they are the same flavor. I get the comparison, but just don't think it's accurate.

Kasket .krusher : True. They both came up during the "Nu Metal" era. So every band with distorted guitars got lumped together. I do hear a Deftones influence though. They even toured together and worked with the same producer. But yeah, Glassjaw is in their own lane.

I think the similarities really are in that they are both non-conventional and have a wide variety of influences in their music that results in a unique sound. They do still both have some similarities though that would make people lump them into a comparable category.

Pizza Pi : Really? Deftones formed in the late 80's in highschool. Glassjaw didn't form until 1993. Glassjaw did stay together after their second album. They just went through label problems, line up changes and tried other projects. More of a hiatus not a break up. Plus, Darryl's illness had a lot to do with them cancelling tours in the mid 00's.
