So much, covered so fast! This a video I wish I'd found years ago, and a great addition to KZbin's modeling tutorial library. Cheers!

Centering rectangle in less steps You can center the initial rectangle in Sketcher by selecting diagonal points on the rectangle, then the origin point and then select the symmetry constraint. Voila - centered in both directions.

Thanks for the feedback Jeremy. I hadn't figured out that you could do it that way when I recorded the video. I now use that method all the time.

This was a great demonstration of a complete design workflow using modern (as of March 2020) versions of FreeCAD. Most other tutorials only show beginner level tasks, but intermediate and advanced tasks are what I'm looking for when evaluating migrating from Fusion360. Going to watch more of your FreeCAD tutorials!

Hey Geoff, I'm enjoying the tutorials but i'm having a hell of a time over here. I got through the mortice and tenon one (up till the assembly part, then I got a ton of weird errors, it's old and broke now unfortunately). I'm on .19, and when I follow along with the symmetry constraint steps, the box turns orange and the solver says I have redundant constraints. I only just put the box down. I tried googling a solution but couldn't find anything relevant. Any insight? Thanks.

Hey Geoff It stopped doing the thing but i' not quite sure why. Guess i'll figure it out eventually. Anyway, still enjoying the series, I plan on doing them all.

I'm glad that you're enjoying the video's and making progress. I sometimes find that I inadvertently create constraints by placing sketch items too close together and FreeCAD automatically creates constraints for me. There are two Sketcher preferences that you might want to check out. The first is "Auto constraints" which automatically creates constraints when it can (eg. vertical lines having a vertical constraint applied, etc.). The second is "Avoid redundant auto constraints" which attempts to remove redundant constraints as you work on the sketch. I have both of these enabled and I find that I don't get too many redundant constraints - the ones I do get are usually the result of me doing something dumb :). I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if there is anything specific you'd like to see on the channel or if you have any other questions.

When I click on Create Sketch after selecting the pad, it doesnt create the rectangle like in your vid. Cant see what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for your feedback Patrick. I'm a little confused because there is no part in this video where I create a rectangle on a pad. Could you please let me know where in this video you're referring to?

Hi Jeff, nice vid mate would love to see me of your vids as i am recently retired fishmonger, and i was just wandering if you can assist me i was wanting to build a Roubo workbench and wanted to download the cad file but not sure how to do that can you help please thanks Greg

I’ll do my best to help. Downloading the file is usually the easy bit assuming you have access to it in the first place. Simply clicking on the file in your web browser should start that process. I haven’t looked for FreeCAD models of a Roubo bench, but I’m pretty sure there are SketchUp models available. Another alternative is to purchase a PDF plan which you should be able to print out from your browser. Hope this helps.
