I just finished Code Geass, both seasons. 10/10. I mean, not to be a fan boy, but I mean, just looking into Lelouch's eyes, I'm just COMPELLED to give it such a good score. But for real, loved it. I felt the weight of guilt the characters themselves found themselves struggling under.

I think most reviewers tend to give it low scores to be "Outside the norm" not saying they skew the results but they view it with a different set of lenses. Just look at the high scores on obscure animes, it's because they went in with no expectations and came out enjoying it. Hyped anime are watched with expectation and if not delivered to the fullest, will not receive that high a score.

Now imagine if Code Geass has the same production value/budget as Fate Zero, Attack on Titan, Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, etc. The anime would be so high quality and even more amazing.

Edward Elric I would disagree, but I enjoyed FMA brotherhood for what it is. The art was unique for its anime. But I would want higher quality and realistic art-work/animations for Code Geass.

Edward Elric yea it looks nice don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the anime and the art. But F/Z, AoT has a realistic and a serious type of drawing that fits Code Geass because of its tone. Though it is ridiculously expensive.

This anime completely changed the way I think about good anime. I had given multiple animes 10/10 ratings before I watched this. After being watched Code Geass seasons 1 and 2 in 4 days. I can now say, no anime thus far comes even close to this masterpiece, and thus this is the only anime worth 10/10. For a year I fought against watching Code Geass, everyone told me it was amazing, but I couldn't get over the character designs looking silly (you know what I'm talking about.) However, I finally started watching this series, and might I add, I was very skeptical. I'm extremely impressed I'm by this anime. It's absolutely beautiful. All Hail Lelouch!

**SPOILER ALERT******* I got through watching code geass a few weeks ago. This show is among the few in this age I felt understood what it was talking about. Code geass offered up an unapologetic look at racism. The commentary on family was fun to watch. The last point that had me glued to the screen was the inner conflict that drove both Lelouch and Suzaku in their ideals. Racism was imposed when the Japanese were reduced to a mere number 11. Suzaku worked hard as a combat pilot, and eventually brought in as a honorary britanian. However, because of the fact he was Japanese the Britainians could never truly trust in him. Kallen the pilot of the Guren identified more with her Japanese side. It was especially hard to see that her mom continued to serve as hard maid, in spite of the fact that Kallen resented her. Family played a role here as Lelouch tried to bring about world peace so that his blind sister Nunnally could lead a life without fear. Suzaku killed his own father to end the brutal war tearing Japan apart. Lelouch engaged in fraticide as he killes Prince Clovis his older brother because he was in his way. Morality is at the heart of this murders as the idea of principle battles relativity. The inner turmoil that drives this characters sucked me in and wouldn't let me out. Kallen had to contend with the fact that she is half Britanian and Half Japanese, but for the sake of a revoultion she forsakes her britanian side to fight for a free Japan. Suzaku the knight in shining armor contends with being a lawful do gooder. While he endears himself to britania, who subjected his people into becoming a number. Lelouch is the most facinating to watch. He strives to create a free and peaceful world, as he enslaves people to do his bidding with Geass. Lelouch strips people of their will. Even going as far as to manipulate Rollo a gentically altered assassin longing for a brother. In conclusion, Code Geass offers an unflinching look at humanity. Through the guise of alternate history mech world. Racism was overt and systemic, families were torn apart, and deep complexes drove the characters onward. Colliding in a path of death and repetance. You won't want to miss this show.

Great speech my friend. However, about rolo; lelouch actually acknowledged him as a brother man, the scene where he dies is when he finally accepts his role as sibling. Mate, if you ever thought lelouch manipulated rolo, then **** you alright, he didn't :( tbh, if the ending of R2 had been shifted to a different plot, I would've preferred Rolo over Nunnally. Why? yeah I was extremely attached to her in R1 but as I watched every episode back-to-back in R2, I couldn't handle it in sentiment. Far out, Lelouch was going through shit phases and Nunnally just turns her back on him. Yeah, I could kinda understand why but as the moment she decides to unfeign her disability by opening her eyes...fuck man, I couldn't take it in anymore because I became mentally fucked... I don't like people feigning their disabilities, so that's when I gave up on her. In my opinion, Nunnally was one of my favourite characters in R1, however; my opinions took a drastic alter as I watched the episodes in R2- back-to-back. I didn't have enough time to soak in all the events in R2 because I defs needed a period where I could reflect .__. So yeah man, the ending just never really had the affect to compensate my opinions on Nunnally. If I only I had time it would've worked.. :o All in all, I thought Rolo was never manipulated; he was an asset to Lelouch and his death will never be taken for granted. peace out
@wiseass2149

Loopey lulu You know I never thought of Nunally like that. It goes to show you how great Code Geass is. Similar to Breaking Bad its uncanny how characters go from such great endearing personalities, to becoming absolute pieces of shit. Code Geass will go down in the ages.

You know what's weird? You're pretty much completely right about Suzaku. But for some reason I really liked him. Maybe it was because I really liked his clash with Lelouch, it brought a great element to the first season. It also helped that at the end of the day, Suzaku is a nice guy, who has just as much good intention (if not more). Really, he had a pretty good backstory as to why he was so focused on being the boy scout (which I'll admit was glossed over), and I couldn't help but feel bad for him given all the shit he has to put up with despite trying to just make everyone get along. His need to be idealistic and that an actual, straight-cut hero can exist, while at the same time constantly trying to atone for the mistake he made in the past... It set him up as a good foil for Lelouch, and he kinda had a seperate narrative from Lelouch... in the first season. In the second season, he eventually just becomes another Lelouch, only Suzaku is still just the emperor's lackey, even despite his promotion. I do not blame Suzaku for things going wrong at the end of the first season. It's clear in season one that Suzaku may have actually been more in the right. In season two, he is a lot more angry and bitter. He lets his personal grudge against Lelouch (which was sort of justified) drive him. He barely is seen making efforts to change things like he was in season one. He also no longer has those moments he used to have where you could see he was genuinely a nice guy. Meanwhile, Lelouch is still suffering from his own inner conflict and is starting to become a lot less selfish. I think Suzaku could've been a great character in season two if he didn't get so much unnecessary hate in season one. If people were more patient for the pay-off of his character, I'm sure we could've gotten a Suzaku people could like.
@pasca15qc
@pasca15qc 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm super agree with you! What I also liked with him is that he isn't that "basic good guy" we can really see that he has good intentions (like lelouch) but we realize after that his character is really deep (and fucked up I think xD) and it makes you think and wonder what is truly good and not just for apparences or ideology
@balabanasireti
@balabanasireti 6 жыл бұрын
Edward Gil Completly agree with you. I loved him even in season 1. Yes, he was hypocriticial but it was an interestimg character flaw and we could see, why he genuinely believed that he was doimg the right thing. People act like he eats babies and then acts like he's an angel, no he's just a guy who doesn't want to kill, after what he did to his father. I loved him even more in season 2 however, because he had one of the best character developments, in my opinion. People can have their opinions but I feel like they always ignore his character development.

It was even said in the first episodes. 2. Yeah, because Lelouch knowing the exact lines a person says, is very realistic. 3. Ehm... what do you think Suzaku did in his training? Of course he trained piloting in the military school like everyone else. 4. V2 popped out because Lelouch was a danger, so V2 used Suzaku against him. We didn't find out why, but that would be nitpicking and not an argument. 5. Yeah, because Lelouch decoding a bomb in seconds is realistic. Again, nice bias. And deus ex machinas are a sign of bad writing, not a bad character.

Of course Code Geass has flaws. The Mech fights are mediocre, hence wasted screen time for more interesting content, for example strategy during battle (discussion) or character development of side characters, (more) philosophical/ideology discussion etc. Don't get me wrong. There is absolutely no show or movie or whatever that beats Code Geass for me. I'd happily sink myself into the world of Code Geass, close myself up in C's World and watch eternal Lelouch conquering the world and rebuild it anew over and over again while sharing Pizza with everyone as an immortal warlock. Come, get some Geass Pizza! Let's make a contract! Geass for Pizza!

The ending really stuck with me. The show would often times gnaw at me, in a pseudo-aggravating way. I always felt like Leloush was so alone because he willed it to be. But that’s what made the shows ending so authentically awesome. I think I left, feeling like I related to him, some how.

+Lelouch vi Britannia The best thing about AoT is the setting (Which was almost completely copied from Claymore, which was inspired by Berserk, which inspired Dark Souls, which inspired..etc.etc.etc.) Thing is that they didn't put the setting to the best use. The characters in AoT were as flat as a board, even flatter than Nina's rack... The most interesting character in AoT was ironically the one with the least screentime, which was Eren's father... Would not know why anyone would give AoT an above average at best but hey opinions vary from person to person. And I am partially agreeing with your opinion on AoT. (Btw, if there is a manga/comic store nearby where you live, go check there and take a look at how many girls stop to take a look at AoT manga's, I found the result to be about 65% of the girls stop to take a look at AoT...It's saddening.)

WTF_AM_I_DOING yeh this is one of the only ones I've ever actually felt sad about (your lie in April omg) and I honestly felt as if I had a weight hanging off of my heart or gut or whatever for weeks, I literally threw up and felt sick most of the time I was so depressed. Then I rewatched it to pay attention and realised that as Lelouch had his geass at maximum power when he confronted his father, and as he's dying the emperor grabbed him by the throat with the hand that has the code symbol on it ( code is what grants the immortality ) which Charles had recently taken from VV, so therefore he was able to take the power inherited from that tiny blonde man and become immortal like CC. So this means that Lelouch did die when Suzaku stabbed him, but then regenerated later and left. If your still feeling suicidally depressed, hope the fact that Lelouch is alive and most likely the man we see driving the cart CC is laying on at the end cheers you up! Also he's confirmed to be in R3 anyway so this was probably a waste of time...

@leizero

Hello, I'm making this comment based from what I know and my observations. The first and second seasons of the Code Geass SERIES were canon and are not at all related to the "R3" movie (this movie was a sequel to the Code Geass "trilogy" which is a remake of the original series cramped into 3 movies with a variety of changes like Shirley being alive, etc.). So SUNRISE milking the CG franchise aside, I'll state what I've observed regarding the conditions for attaining immortality. Firstly of course, one has to evolve the Geass at its maximum capacity (i.e. having it in both eyes). Secondly, if you rewatch the series you'll notice that the previous iterations of immortal Code-holders actually have to get "consent" from the Geass-users to whom they gave the power to. You can see this when C.C. got tricked by the Nun into agreeing with her, only to find out the horrible truth after she committed suicide in front of her. You'll notice this too when V.V. talked before he died where he mentions about giving his brother the Code because he loved him so much (a callback to when he also got Marianne murdered because he thinks she was bad for Charles). Then finally there was that scene where C.C. actually decided to hand her Code to Charles, but the transfer was cancelled right after Lelouch convinced her not to do so. This makes the "consent" thing somewhat reasonable because Charles could've taken the Code from her by force considering he was already immortal too. Considering these scenes, it might be possible that both the Code-holder and the Geass-user actually have to willfully agree to one another for the Code to be transferred. Also, some reasonable facts as to why Lelouch would never want to be immortal: 1. He saw and he knows what C.C. had gone through her life all because she was immortal. 2. His death is a way atonement for all the sins he committed which he is aware of. 3. Death is his ultimate sacrifice and escape. Regarding the Code which Charles had, it would make sense that it came back to where it originally belonged to which is the World of C where the "collective consciousness" reside since in the first place, it is the Code that opens the doors to that world. It was also the "collective consciousness" of the World of C that ceased Charles from existing.

Yeah he did do that to some people especially at the end, the result? they became mindless zombies towards Lelouch which 1) is very noticeable, even without them being mindless zombies all the time they (those unaware of geass) were still able to figure that something was up 2) He will not gain the people's support if his entire force are mindless zombies (again as shown in the end) unless of course he use his geass on everyone in the world 3) At the beginning he was warned about using his geass too much which could cost him to lose control and at worst case driven insane with it's power as it continues to grows (which was why at the beginning he did try to some extent not to use geass too much but again that changed at the end) 4) He also wouldn't want friends and other close allies to become mindless zombies

I found the ending of Code Geass to be utter crap. Spoiler warning for those who don't know. Lelouch becomes a kind of Jesus figure and sacrifices himself for peace. It's absolutely stupid logic to think that his death magically fixes the world. An ending that would've been far more effective and much more meaningful is if Lelouch did actually conquer Britannia and won, but in exchange everyone he cared about died. His mother, Suzaku, Nunally, Karen, C.C. etc. He should've had to kill all of them in the end to win, but in the heat of the moment he looses sight of his original goal and kills the people he was fighting for and his best friend. Now he's the ruler of almost the whole world, everyone hates him and he killed all of his loved ones because he was too obessed with being an immoral asshole in order to get what he wanted. When everything was said and done, Lelouch could've reflected on everything he did and realized his mistakes but be forced to live on and deal with it. Now that would be meaningful. I hate how so many anime must make an evil protagonist either fail completely like Death Note, or be redeemed of their sins. I also despised Suzaku. He's so naive and dumb it hurts. He thinks he can change Britannia internally despite how they've proven themselves to be racist, genocidal and a tyrant. Give me a fucking break! Suzaku should've wanted to change Britannia from the inside, but his method of doing so was coercion, treachery and deciet. He would never kill anyone himself or dirty his hands, so he'd justify himself as being in the moral right even though his own actions would be just as equally evil as Lelouch. His end goal would be to rise to the top of Britannia by scheming his way into the highest position from within. This would've made for a far more interesting battle between him and Lelouch instead of Suzaku always foiling him because "God hates Lelouch." and he must never succeeed despite Suzaku's glaring stupidity and inability to think on the same level as Lelouch.

That would never happen. Lelouch would never forget about his little sister. In fact, in the end of the 1st rebelion, he could have won if he didn't abandon his teammates with no comunication whatsoever just to go get the abducted sister. About Susaku, you can really see the change he passed when testifying certain events (death of the love of his life, his best friend was the vilain that killed her, aaaaaand he nuked the city that he loved, killing thousands of innocents without even remembering it), so it is normal for him to change, who the hell wouldn't?

***** But he chose the stupidest way to go about fixing his mistakes. It's the same thing I hated about Gundam 00's plot too. The "Unify everyone by hatred of a sole person" idea is fucking stupid. This completely ignores that both sides have problems with each other that stem far deeper than just "We all hate Lelouch. There's still the matter of Britannia's massive invasions of other countries in the past that isn't going to just magically solve itself and settle everyone's bitterness towards them. Not to mention Britannia would still be the world's most heavily armed nation and a huge superpower that would create tension among the rest of the world. Oh and let's not forget that Britannia is still under the rule of the same family who invaded half the world. I'm sure everyone was just A-OK with letting Nunnally and Schneizel, the offspring of the former douchebag king, control the most powerful nation in the world, and as a monarchy still. But somehow, we're supposed to believe Lelouch dying solves all of this? Give me a break.
