Vladimir Jurowski, conductor
London Philharmonic Orchestra
Recording taken from Aug. 17 concert at the Royal Albert Hall, Proms 2019, BBC 3.
Glazunov's 5th Symphony had its Proms premiere in 1897, over 120 YEARS ago. The audience seemed so overwhelmed by this music that they clapped after even the slow 3rd movement, something unheard of especially for Glazunov. It's like the audience couldn't contain how shocked they were that this music existed. Makes you think... why hasn't he been performed more? This was a HISTORIC night, and hopefully a sign of things to come for this amazing composer! I must admit, the slow 3rd movement might be the greatest symphonic slow movement Glazunov ever composed.
