That is the BEST way to summarize it because Ryan basically admitted himself when he said, they use to find songs for characters to sing and around season 2, artist started asking for their songs to be sung on the show because the original would always go back on the charts. So they were basically just being used as song promotion lol

For context, this whole episode is about Will wanting to add "edge" to their performances, and gets two of the students to teach everyone else how to twerk, and whilst this is all happening, Unique is caught using the girls' bathroom and gets made fun of because of it. Sue then bans twerking and Will refuses to listen to her decision and then performs this song but because he SOMEHOW misunderstood the lyrics/meaning of the song, Sue then fires him. Will then goes on to appeal his case to the school board and shows several different dancing styles from different decades and how at that point in time, they were all considered controversial and because of this he gets his job back??? But then Sue makes a deal with Will (after seeing him let Unique use the staff bathroom), she says she'll give Unique her own key for the bathroom as long as Will stops making the kids twerk and HE REFUSES???? and goes on a rant about how "this isn't about twerking, it's about standing up to Sue Sylvester". Later on he does go on to accept Sue's deal, but i've always hated the way how he went around the issues, caring more about a dance move with your bum, than a trans woman and her being bullied because of it, which could cause serious mental health issues for her. I love Matthew Morrison but GOD do i hate Will. (This episode was also TWO episodes after the tribute for Cory which is just insane to me).

yeah I feel like the line about him misunderstanding the point of the song and getting the artists name wrong was supposed to lead to him figuring out that this whole performance was wrong cos (don't shoot me here) most times I like mr shue but here it was just like his character was put in the wrong storyline because it was popular he should've gotten something else to do in this episode or just introduce the twerking then stayed with the unique storyline

I never saw him as a problem until I rewatched glee after growing up. I didn't exactly stop liking him, but just because he is a fictional character. But I did start finding the writers in the show painfully amusing. Like, HOW are you capable of writing this and still say “Yes, this should be a part of a TV Show”. I would also recommend listening to For once in my life, Kevin Mchale who plays Artie (character in the wheelchair) is in my opinion one of the best male voices on the show but doesn’t get much credit

That scene is actually not creepy at all. Rachel has an obsessive, stalkery crush on Mr. Schuster, and he's trying to tell her "get away from me because you're too young and the way you're acting is completely inappropriate" through a mash up song.
