honestly i felt that this plot line could have been handled better to touch a little on veterans' problems in the US and elsewhere. from this scene i'm fairly sure that finn's father had PTSD and that was why he turned to drugs in the end. it would have been nice to see acceptance of this in the form of finn acknowledging that his father had had a mental illness and wasn't a horrible person like he seemed to think in this scene.
@C0rvidC0rpse7 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was a matter of him thinking he was a horrible father, just the shock of thinking someone died one way only to find out they committed suicide, especially since it was his father. I think he was more angry at Carol than his dad.

Allison Lee yeah but this show was all face and no depth, the real purpose was song covers, any real issues it tried to discuss were very poorly done and have not aged well

I think it's just when you build up an image of someone especially of your parent being a certain way and then want so strongly to emulate that quality in them it's reality shattering when you find out it isn't what you thought it was no matter if he thought drugs were a bad reckless choice or a form of escapism for a suffering hero. Something happened with my dad not on this scale and it was surreal enough for me as I view him as a man with the moral strength like captain America who will stand up for what is right no matter the odds and I've always tried to be like that and felt guilt when I've lacked so last Christmas time this random drunk guy mistook my dad for the son of this other person and started saying "you're not welcome here due to your father" and my dad was unsure, confused and looked a bit scared for more context the guy was 6'4 pretty big and my dad's on crutches with poor health but all 5'7 skinny ass me was both a little too back to see my dad vulnerable and was riled up barking back at the guy and ready to do whatever damage I could to this guy before getting my ass kicked if he laid a finger on him.

Did you only watch this clip? Because Finn decided to still join the army in honor of his dad and had made plans to petition that his dishonorable discharge was changed into an honorable one. He didn’t think his dad was a horrible person, he just had an extreme reaction to unsettling news because he’s still just a kid in the show. Even when he ends up getting discharged himself, the next season, he felt extreme guilt because he had wanted to make his dad proud.

I'm watching this chapter on Netflix and I was in awe of how the writers brought this up about Finn's dad. It's as if they had a premonition about Cory's death, or at this point they already knew about his addiction and tried to intervene in the hope that Cory would understand that he needed help not to end up like Finn's father. It's as if they knew that Cory's future would be to die of an overdose and they were warning him to avoid it. RIP Cory

Cory wasn’t involved in drugs when this scene was filmed, he got back on drugs before they filmed s4 and that’s why he looked so different in s4
@bootderek8 жыл бұрын
this potential story arc could have worked very well to the show's advantage. for this character to discover a path he's interested in taking, for the sake of his father, whom he worshiped and wanted to do right by. Finn started as someone with no direction in his life, but he knew he wanted to do good, whatever that meant. and when the 3rd season wrapped up, we get to see him actually go through with his plan. too bad it was brought down altogether in the 4th season, when there was so much potential. Cory Monteith's death notwithstanding, it would have served a much better and more fitting conclusion to the tragic loss.

Actually, I'm not entirely sure it was... from what I recall, it always seemed to me like it might have been some time during the filming of season 4 that Cory started relapsing. I could be totally wrong on that (I obviously wasn't there), but it would just be a little surprising to me if he'd been relapsing for that long before he went to rehab after they finished on season 4. Which, if it's true that he was still totally clean at this point, that makes it almost more eery and upsetting that it ended up proving so prescient!

We don't know what happened to Finn they don't mention it. If it had been a drug overdose, I think they would've mentioned it at some point, same way they told him how his father died

In the show near the beginning of episode 5x03, Kurt specifically states he’s not going to discuss how Finn died that it wasn’t important as how he lived. And it’s Kurt that tells us it’s been about a month since the funeral in the same voiceover monologue. And we know episodes 5x01 and 5x02 were before Finn died, as it makes no sense for Blaine to propose to Kurt in 5x01, and it was not long after 4x22 when in the show Finn was still alive and in college. I took me a while to figure out the show’s timeline because the writers were trying to be vague but they left enough factoids to sort it out.

I think it’s honorable what our brave individuals choose to do for our country, everyday! DON’T GET ME WRONG!! The sacrifices they make are the reason we still have rights, as US citizens, and is something our country should never forget.. freedom isn’t free! But, that unfortunately also comes at their expense! The loss you can suffer from enlisting, including: sleep, time with your family, relationships, your mental health, your physical health, your limbs, your senses, your life, etc. (Im sure i am barely scratching the surface). It’s noble what our military does everyday for our country, but ppl should be prepared for said loss when they enlist. I’m not saying expect the worst, but realize things could go wrong and/or not work out the way you wished they would. Expect the good AND bad
