A music video of “Wichita Lineman” by Glen Campbell during a 1972 tour, presented by The Church Studio Live.
SONG: Wichita Lineman
ALBUM: Wichita Lineman
ARTIST: Glen Campbell
WRITER: Jimmy Webb
"WICHITA LINEMAN" LYRICS:
"I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload
I hear you singing in the wire
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line
I know I need a small vacation
But it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south
Won't ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line
And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line"

Ditto, it's a simple line but it's so deep. There's not a second the lonely lineman didn't think of his loved one, and it touched me deeply.

It was 1969 and this song had already been a hit for months. I was living (stationed) in San Antonio, Texas and dating a girl attending college there in the city. My best memory of her is dancing to this song at the House of Sir John Falstaff at Hemisfair Plaza. Great Song!

Everytime I listen to this song it brings a smile and tears to my eyes. It reminds me of the albums my mom use to play when I was a young child. Then later in life I dated a wonderful man that was a lineman for the power power company and he passed away. Thank you for the memories 😘

There is more to why people like this song than they think. It goes to the good in the core of men. Wanting a woman. Working a productive job, missing her, but keeping the lights on for many who don't know they depend on men like him. What is sad now-a-days is that popular culture is dominated by loud-mouth feminists who have no idea what they are trying to destroy. And that is, men, who's only want is a good woman. For all time. Good luck everybody, and to the Church Studio channel for bringing this back

There is a lot of truth in what you say, but it also must be understood that until modern times, women's lives were not in their control and they were often expected to play roles that placed limits upon them. Imagine a young woman starting out in the forties, getting a job with one of the big and relatively new airlines, where she becomes one of the first *female* radio operators (now known as air traffic controllers). She loves her important work, and is even on the cover of a national radio magazine, shown at work as she is directing a pilot for landing. She becomes a celebrity and gets letters from admiring men all over the country, and she's only in her early twenties! That was my mother. But what happens? People everywhere *disapprove,* including *her parents and siblings.* When is she going to become a real woman, finding a man so she can produce children for him? Eventually, she does what everyone expects her to do, and leaves the job, which is filled by a young man. She marries a radio operator, and they have four children, but as much as she loves them, she is not happy about the surrender of her own life goals in order to fulfill the "requirements" imposed upon her. Modern society has attempted to right this wrong, but along with that effort, much has been lost. Many of these feminists you speak of have never learned of a wonderful feature of old, which was the unwritten *social contract,* some of which you highlight in your comment. It needed to be adjusted somewhat as we modernized, but the need men and women have for each other is a vital part of any good community, and it's sadly true that many have no idea what they are destroying along with the outmoded and restricting roles previously expected of them. I wish my mother had lived a happier and more fulfilling life.

I've seen many versions of Glen singing this live, but this has to be one of the best ones. I also love how his Ovation guitar is just precariously perched on a stool for him, and he straps it on and starts singing just in time. Nowadays, you'd have a crew of people just to put your guitar on for you. I'm so glad I was able to see Glen on his final tour - true talent lives forever, and Glen's will always shine for us.

My god this song is so big. It’s when men were aloud to men. It’s when our country had pride. I feel like now the politicians lack of leadership is slowly pissing it away. Like we are anemic because they’ve sucked the life blood from us. 😓
