Glen Hansard - Say It To Me Now - CARDINAL SESSIONS

We always wanted to meet Singer/Songwriter Glen Hansard. He toured Germany a few years ago, we arranged a date, but under unforeseen circumstances he had to cancel it. Long story short: Some months ago we met someone from his record label who told us there’d be a new record and a Glen would be in Cologne for a day. It worked out well, we walked with him to a friend’s very small backyard, where those three amazing videos have been created. Glen Hansard comes from Ireland and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008 used in the movie ‚Once‘ (you should see that movie, if you haven’t already).

Cardinal Sessions was founded in the summer of 2010. They challenge the classic music video and try to replace impersonal footage with immediate and emotional snapshots.
Bands from all over the world with their different genres present their songs reduced to the essence of the musical spectrum - only vocals and unplugged instruments. Due to the spontaneous live-aspect and the approach to record every song without any additional rehearsal, songs emerge that often sound significantly different to their album versions.
We film on locations that the musicians mostly choose by themselves: remote places, frequented streets, parks, woods, fields, bars; nothing is impossible. We have accomplished our goal if the location fits well to the background of the music we and the artists want to present. But our most important purpose is that there are no borders: we film everything that we like, no matter how popular, famous or also unknown a band might be. It is still important for us to support local talents and it will always stay part of our concept.
The Cardinal Sessions team can also be booked: for example to film short documentaries of album recordings, studio recordings or live concert moments that you want to capture.

I had the pleasure of seeing Glen live 2 years ago. The lady working coat check at the venue that night was obviously a fan. Glen could see her peering through the doors during the show trying to see the best she could, and asked why she couldn't come in and watch. Someone explained that she was working, and he felt bad she was missing the show. During his encore, he ran out to the lobby and sang this song to her. After he finished playing, he kissed her on the cheek. It was the coolest thing I've ever witnessed at a concert to date.

When I saw Steve Goodman in concert back in the late 70s, he broke a string in the middle of a song and not only retuned in the middle of the song, but actually restrung the broken string (while continuing to play).

I went to a show of his years ago, more than 5 years ago for sure. He had some Spanish musicians introducing him, really nice and talented people... they are called "Escuchando Elefantes" if you want to check them out. I remember he broke some strings too. I still remember that night, one of the most wonderful live shows I've attended too. Thank you Glen, you rock! (Sorry English isn't my mother language)
