Halo Halo means "mixed of different ingredients". It doesn't mean all are required to mix them to appear like a blender smoothies. HINALO is term for "mixing" . So don't listen to Filipinos pushing you make you Halo-Halo a smoothies, as if it's a sin not to. You can mix it if you like, if you don't want, it is just fine. I don't like mixing my Halo-halo.

I like mixing it a bit, but not too much like you're almost having a slushie. The idea is that Halo Halo is a summer food for the hot days eating sweets with ice to cool you down. Some adjacent food is "banana split" which is basically banana with ice and condensed milk. Some have it fancier with ice cream and topping, or there's a version of avocado instead of banana, with ice and condensed milk.

You have to mix all ingredients inside the glass together since it should be mixed so the word halo halo (to mix); not eaten separately by layers. You may eat the ice cream (ube) purple yam until you can crush it down with spoon to mix everything together until the bottom and then begin eating.

It's older than Savory, Manam and even older than Max's Restaurant. Halo-Halo is MIX-MIX so you really have to mix all ingredients up before the first taste.

Halohalo is not a full ice cream dessert its a ice shaving dessert with mix jellys, fruit, swet beans, flan, rice crispies and the ube ice cream is just a special toppings. There are kinda similar ice shaved dessert of this kind in Korea, Thailand, Vietnam...etc. But different ingredients. Most foreigners doesn't know how to eat it but halo halo has to be fully mixed from bottom to top before eaten coz some important ingredients like the milk and sugar are at the bottom you dont eat it by layers coz the ice shaving itself has no taste. And thats the reason why its named halo halo which means in English mix-mix. When riding public transoort like the jeepneys or busses you should know your specific destination so the driver would know how much your ride fee is.
