Glenmorangie The Nectar d'Or Whisky Review

Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or (French for golden nectar) was first matured in American oak bourbon casks before being finished in wine casks from Sauternes, a wine-growing region of France. This revised packaging released in 2019, also saw the removal of the age-statement. Non-chillfiltered and bottled at 46%. Nose: Lemon tart emerges alongside fresh vanilla pods, lime and orange zest. Sultanas and dates follow, laced with ginger, coconut and a hint of toasted oak. Palate: Silken textures bring sumptuous layers of crème caramel and warming gingerbread. Then nutmeg and toasted almonds entwine with meringue and honeycomb. Finish: Sweet and mellow, balancing lemon zest, vanilla cream and final traces of ginger and nutmeg.

I'm quite getting on with the 10. Would you say this is a good 'unchillfiltered version of the 10' or no such luck?

It's a little different and possibly overpriced if you're just after a slightly more grown up version of the 10.

Hi. By "a hint of Oloroso Sherry", could you break this down for me, please? How familiar are you with Oloroso sherry? I have only drunk an Israeli fortified wine which was made in a local winery in the Oloroso Sherry style. Pleasant aromas of red fruits, fresh yeast, sweet rhubarb with a sourness. Tasting was a mouthful of sour red and yellow fruit and oaky yeast. Not very pleasant to my palate but I was assured from an expert in Spanish wine that this was pretty close to the real thing.

I'm definitely a novice when it comes to oloroso. It's definitely the nose of oloroso, not the palate.

There are different batches do this one might not be as good as previous ones.
