I was fortunate to take a vocal performance class with Mr. Oberlin at Hunter College many years ago. He had only stopped performing a few years before. I only realize in recent years what a gift it was to study under him.

I must say I feel as Glenn Gould felt about this cantata--what a very beautiful piece of music. Just heavenly.

Wow. Two distinguished artists together. This is a real treat. The late Canadian contralto Maureen Forrester also performed with Glen accompanying her.

What a treat. I've watched the video of the performance many times, and it's one of my favorites, very moving.

I loved Russell Oberlin's gentle explanation of his time with Glenn Gould. Back in the days when self-effacing modesty and recognition of a genuine genius was a thing. Nothing like, in any way, what gets attention these days: ephemeral, un-ironic self-promotion of the talentless e.g. the Kardashians, Jay-Z, the entire Beckham family, Prince Harry and his wife and so on. Gould's autism was also his strength as far as his art was concerned. It's a thing that happens only rarely with those 'on the spectrum', but when it does, it's explosively creative.
