Im not surprised that Wicked significantly surpassed Gladiator 2’s numbers. Wicked is definitely drawing more families (and more tickets) than G2. I live in the suburb of a major metro, and all of my local Cinemarks had 9/10 of their XD screenings slotted for Wicked-and there are zero XD showings for Gladiator after today (They are all reserved for Wicked and Moana 2). Anyways, first time commentator (starting following during Rings of Power). Appreciate your content and analysis. Take care!

Wicked didn't live up to the lofty expectations but it ended up with a good number; 112 domestic + 50 international = 162mil global debut, a million below Little Mermaid's global debut. It should be clear to all this is not even coming close to a billion. As expected, the movie did well in the countries that hosted the play and it was popular; US, UK, Australia, NZ, Brazil and Mexico. In contrast, Wicked couldn't even top Gladiator2's on its second weekend in markets like Italy and Spain. From the insane marketing blitz and the 400 product collabs Universal ran for this film, they were certainly hoping for so much more; probably a Barbie 2.0.

I still liked Gladiator 2. The themes within Gladiator 2 were good, from mommy issues to political intrigue. But wrong lead actor methinks. Good actor, but he didn't sell it for me. He also didn't earn the sudden leader of the gladiators. They should have spent more time with him rising within the ranks of the gladiators, introducing the audience to other interesting fighters.

The only thing I could see trending is more Wizard of Oz stuff. Hell, knowing that Wicked is based on a novel. I wouldn't be shocked if we would get versions based on the musical and some based on the novel. Hearing how messed up the novel is ---HBO is waiting at the corner.

@@geekinwithJamesHancock I had trouble remembering what went down in the previous week's eps but the sheer artistry and thrills on screen more than made up for any (if any, might just be me) story shortcomings. Watching Arcane, it's like you can feel the chemical reactions going off in your brain. Studio Fortiche is S Tier animation and I'll watch anything they create from now on.

I heard that Kraven The Hunter is about to open as much worse than Morbius and Madame Web. I have no interest and faith whatsoever on the movie coming out because I still have to get tickets for the new animated Lord Of The Rings movie. As for Kraven, the director of the film, in his infinite wisdom, saying “Give This Film A Chance.” I say audiences are done with the Sony Spider-Man Villain Universe after the success of the Venom trilogy and the failures of Morbius and Madame Web. Just scrap the idea and keep focusing on what’s in the future for Spider-Man.

Wicked is completely girl-centric and girl power, with a historic female framework. Never mind that the book is revisionist tripe, written by a non-straight man, it is still tied to The Wizard of Oz, which was also completely girl-centric, 'women are wonderful' nostalgic content.

Wicked needs to pass the 200 million mark to be profitable. If not the second will not be made. I thought the costumes sucked, a bit cheap. Word of mouth is not enough to sell a film, I don’t agree with that. It’s a saturated market with so much content.

Moana is sold out all weekend in our smaller suburban area theater, that usually only seems to happen with movies that are in the billion-ish range. Unless word of mouth is bad I suspect it will be a hit for Disney.

Gladiator 2 is overall successful with the international box office Wicked isn’t my caldron of Witches Brew but if you enjoy it that’s great I still think it’s good to put put a lot butts in theater seats 💺
