In Norway NOK 222.200 for the configuration you rode. It has 14.5 liters tank. I Norway a KTM 890 AdvR is NOK 212.000. The KTM has better suspension travel and a 20 liters tank volume and is slightly lighter even with the bigger tank. Same hp but KTM has slightly better max torque at the same rpm. KTMs has 15000 km service intervals, the BMW only 10.000. If you ride a lot you will appreciate longer service intervals. I think that is under-communicated, because it influences on the total cost of ownership. I dont like to deliver bike for service mid-season. The KTM probably has a lower centre of gravity due to the tank assembly. When looking at the pure data the KTM seems to be a better buy but of course....the feel of the bike for the intended use is very important. I rode a KTM 890 AdvR on gravel in Spain. It is an awesome bike. I would keep my KTM, but I know you are only testing hehe...... cheers.

Thanks Sven for your comparison and insight 🙏 It surprises me that BMW go for 10000Km service, that nay have something to do with how they source the engine? Valid points. For sure i think that the smaller fuel tank is a drawback, on paper the KTM (my own bike) looks better, in the reality and feel when you ride it, this bike does better than one may think. Would not be surprised if the proffessional reviwers will end out with a draw between the bikes, winning different categories. This bike is potent and fun. ...and You know how orange i am 👀😂
@tubelesschannel8 ай бұрын
@@Braapncamp Yes you are orange 😂 but still able to do fair reviews of other bikes...just as it should be. And your experience on the KTM is very valuable when doing it. I have to admit I love KTM solution of the tank....serving to lower CG and also as a "protection" for other parts. I hope they will stick to it and develop it.
@Braapncamp8 ай бұрын
Thanks Sven 🙏 It would surprise me if KTM leave the great tanks solution, they developed the 1290 to get that solution on the latest version as well and thatvreally makes difference on the newer version. Itvis probably more expensive solution in both design and parts but make it stick out and really take the Dakar heritage seriously and not just by the looks. I would think though that the Katie tank solution gives some nightmares for the engineers to design and work around the engine cooling?

You belive that 15000km service interval it is good for KTM engine? If you check Japanese bikes manual, they always recommend change oil within 5000-6000km. Even you can by yourself check engine oil capacity, if volume less that's is reason change oil often.
@Braapncamp8 ай бұрын
Thats how it is, You change oil between the factory service intervals, especially if the riding style is anything else than touring style. If unsure, test the oil. no one believes anything here. I have always at least halfen the service intervals on my 690, 790, 890 and as well my earlier 1200GSA and othe bikes. My KTM's get new oil at 5000Km's. All service books states that shorter service intervals are required if the bikes are ridden in competition or harder than normal use or similar.

@mikemcmurray25068 ай бұрын
I picked mine up on Wednesday. Significant improvement over the 850. Much better bike in every respect. A couple of things I'd like to see improved though. First, to put a center stand on it, the website says you need to lower the suspension?! Hopefully, that's not the case. Second, there are no grab points on the back. If you drop it, where are you going to lift it from? Or just moving it around the garage. And it appears BMW hasn't come up with something yet. Third, the side stand is a little short. When you tip it on the side stand, it seems to go over much further than the 850. So, I can see it sinking in soft soil pretty easily. The sear is hard and narrow, but the aftermarket will take care of that. Those are the only things I've noticed so far. Otherwise, it is a fantastic bike. It looks great, rides well, and I'm quite excited about it.
@Braapncamp8 ай бұрын
Congrats to the beast! Why not get a enduro trail jack instead of a centerstand? A sidestand foot extension might solve the issue with the sidestand. I also thiught about the side stand, but i put an extension in the anyway (experiences problems without them... 🙈😅). You could carry a strap to sling on the rear if needed. Happy Trails and cheers to the new bike!

A nice video. How does it actually compare to your KTM 890ADV R in terms of suspension, engine and electronics? Would you consider switching to GS900?
@Braapncamp8 ай бұрын
If I were into the market for a new bike, it would be a possible choise. The suspension definitely up to task for tough ADV. (I do not ride hard enduro...) Engine is really nice in Dynamic mode and over all more elastic than the 790/890 engine (my feeling). I turned down the effects of electronics as much as possible to feel the bike and that worked nice. It is much better feeling on this bike than the older 850, BMW has definitely worked their way closer to the 890R. Probably one of the closer bikes out there right now. If You ask me what next bike would be, it depends If I stay in the middle weight class or move lighter. With that said, i'm superhappy with my 890R ✊️✊️

@@mp2140 I updates my answer on the engine, it feels slightly more elastic than the 790/890 engine. 890 feels more elastic than 790 as well. Probably this is desireable for most ADV riders. Haha, these bikes are in totally different leauges! Should not really be compared, but the Husqvarna 901 Ex. is comparable with this Beemer. a FE501 is a weapon for tougher trailriding and could ofc be ADV'ized with a tower, larger tank and comfort saddle. I would love to have one!
@guymiller28428 ай бұрын
Thats my dilemma. Looking for that mountain all around weapon that can get me there with competency and a bit of comfort. When the nice potholed gravel road ends and steep rocky inclines start and some smaller trails branch off will the bmw be nimble enough to handle it or will I be constantly picking up sub 500lbs… does it tractor well? 🤔🤔

Where the gravelroads and forest roads ends, the middle weight bikes are too heavy to be fun. That will be alot of workout! It is a bit of pick and choose where You will excel with the bike. The AJP PR7 is a great bike that does it all out of the box. Works for travel and enduro. Comfort and nice gear ratios for it all. I have made a testride video on that with extended riding. I really like it and still have it in my head if i swap.

But something in my head craves for a ligheter bike (again) the day i trade.

The HP2 is classic and still does well in comparison, as the Super Enduro. But talking about engine as as stress bember, the HP is in the family. A friend of mine totalled his HP2 in a scouting trip for Adventure Days. Insuranse company had to pay for manufacturing a new engine. No one on the shelf. The alternative was none if the customer should have an equal HP2, since there was none to source. Expensive. I would like to hav eone though! The bashplate is bolted on the engine on my 890R as well, and the earlier 790. I've been fine so far. 690/701, the same thing, was fine with the 690 as well.
