It's just kind of a laughing in the face of boomers and their fixed wing aircraft like a rebellion But they're just hurting themselves Because anything with a motor is boring When it comes to RC

If I would not have seen this in your video I would have never believed that this is possible! Unbelievable skils displayed by the glider pilot Guy Westgate but as well by the pilot of the BO 105. These multiple rolls in dirty air towed by an helicopter made me speechless. But when I saw the heli hovering and the glider "hanging" in vertical position under the heli I was shocked. These two guys do not only have alien like skills, they have balls of steel! So much could have gone awfully wrong already in the first stage of towing the glider at the takeoff and later.... Great video! Thank you!!
@choppergirl6 ай бұрын
Why, none of this is actually particularly remarkable? If you fly aerobatics in RC quadcopters like me, you're in dirty air all the time and hanging upside down, right side up, inside out, you could care less after about 5,000 hours in the sim.

I think the first part of the tow is the most dangerous, where the heli is moving close to the ground at a high tilt angle, so the skid could be caught on anything. Then, staying behind and below a heli may put the glider in a severe turbulent airstream.

Glider pilot from Germany here and I might be wrong, but as far as my flight training goes that was unnecissarily dangerous: - The roll in during the tow was (A) much too low, (B) flown uncleanly and (C) seems to have put lots of stress on the ropes and the helicopter. - The release in 1000ft was way too low, the loopings were too - In Germany, the minimum height for aerobatics is 1.500ft (for a reason) - The curve into final was very low and steep. Let me know what you think :)
@soleenzo8936 ай бұрын
Glider pilot here too. I must say on one hand yes, many of the maneuvers they did seemed unnecessarily dangerous. However, this is aerobatics, and countries have varying degrees of safety rules for aerobatics. Like for all aerobatics, the safest way to perform them is at high altitude, however, the point is to put on a show, therfore a line has to be drawn somewhere between safety and offering an amazing show.In this case it seems the show quality weighed higher in the balance than pure safety. I think it's okay for highly trained and competent pilots to be allowed to do such risky endeavours in the name of art or performance. Yes there is a reason people doing aerobatics are limited in minimumaltitude, but i think we can cut some slack for pilots who know full well the risks but want to put on an amazing show. It looked awesome and if they die, they Die, it's their decision to do it this way, if they're comfortable with it and won't endager others thats fine.

The pilot is a national champion. Way above your skills and pay grade. These people are professionals. Amature pilots should never try this. It's not dangerous if you know what you are doing. Just because you can't imagine it doesn't mean it's dangerous. It's also an air show. Not one time was anything out of control. They were both in control and in harmony. This is why he is a professional who has many awards and you are not. If it was easy and no element of danger nobody would watch it or be impressed. That is the point of airshows. They take calculated risks. These are not the run-of-the-mill pilots. They are at the top of their profession. YOu can relax now.
@kaasmeester59036 ай бұрын
@@soleenzo893 True, there are norms for aerobatics, but they can be lifted in case of air shows. Some years ago we had pilots doing all manner of crazy stuff right over the river downtown, for the Red Bull air races. In such cases, the event organizers, pilots and regulators will do additional risk assessment.
