That was a fantastic setup for the outlanding, pattern, approach and landing. Nicely done Sir.

why close the brake though?

TipTop! Gut eingeteilt und sauber angeflogen! Ich würde beim nächsten Mal noch drauf achten möglichst langsam aufzusetzen um nur so kurz wie möglich auszurollen.

Nice job, but I think that you should stop your landing run as quickly as possible to avoid meeting a hidden obstacle like a hole in the ground.

Agree and keeping airbrakes longer?
@lautoka637 жыл бұрын
Yes: full airbrake as soon as you touch with strong wheel brake. I put my Discus in a field last summer (first outlanding in many years); the distance from the fence to the end position was 100 paces - less than 100m. I don't regard myself as any sort of special pilot: I just think it's good to stop as soon as possible. I think a long field may intuitively feel like your home strip, so you run long after landing.

I have discus too, very powerfull airbrakes - same as in duodiscus

I totally do agree with your positions! The background to my decision here is, that this is field is former airfield that was closed by then about 2.5 years ago. Moreover I visited this field just 4 or 5 days before I landed out there and another pilot from our cross country camp landed out there 2 days before and told us that this is a perfect field to land out without any obstacles. Therefore I was in my opinion quite aware about the field's condition - one reason why I chose this one as I had no chance to get home anway

Good preparation and good field landing and you saved the wheel brake too, nobody criticize you here. Keep posting videos and take care

What are you talking about? There was plenty of speed in those turns, they weren't a risk at all?

I think you are in error with this comment. There was one moment where he went from perfect coordination into a slight slipping turn for a moment. This will never precipitate stall - spin. It is the skidding turn that can lead to a stall spin. In everyones sailplane Flight Training you learn how to do deep slipping turns in the Landing pattern, especially from base to final slipping turns. Steep and deep slips where you are looking over your shoulder out across the leading edge of your wing tip that you have pointed well below the Horizon at the ground indicating, like the iron sights on a rifle, exactly where you are going, with you vario pegged full down is an absolute vital skill to master, at least it is out here in the western states of the US where conditions can get Beyond extreme, especially close to the ground.
