I think Helaena is the best autistic character I've ever seen. By far. I'm autistic myself, and she means so much to me. She has a lot of the signs, but many expressed subtly, and I just adore that she has a special interest in bugs. Most importantly, though, I love that she's happy. Most autistic characters aren't. She does the things she enjoys, her family are all either actively supportive or leave her alone, and while she reacts badly to touch sometimes, she isn't driven to meltdown. She is calmly joyful. And knowing that she will face the horror of the plot just the same is, in a way, nice as well. She's a person. Her autism is a part of her, but it isn't all of her. I love her so, so much.

As an autistic woman, I love Helaena in HOTD little things like how she puts her fingers in her ears when Vaemond is killed and not liking being touched unexpectedly by Alicent feels genuine to me, as far as I can tell the actors portraying her (Evie Allen, Phia Saban)are not on the autism spectrum which I am personally fine with as long as allistic actors do their research and respects us. also, Helaena's hyperfixation on bugs is so cute and helps flesh her character out more than in fire & blood where she is just a glorified womb who exists to be fridged.

Honestly i think harwins short time on screen was effective in some ways because every scene with him is a strong moment and a great scene, The wedding, the baby and of course the best scene in the entire show Watching cole get his shit ABSOULUTELY rocked So when he died, it translated a feeling of "Hes gone to soon" which is literally what rhynera and her kids would be thinking. Its a decent way of translating some of that feeling of attachment but distance to the character before suddenly cutting him out.

Another thing that I notice, is that when Daemon decapitated Vaemond, Helaena didn't cover her eyes, she covered her ears after everyone in the throne room screamed, I think she can be very sensitive to loud sounds, but when Melys roared at them in the coronation she didn't cover her ears, it can be an inconsistency or just the shock of having a dragon that can kill you in front of your face so I don't know

As someone with sensory issues: not every sound is the same. I work with milling maschines and that's fine, but planes and helicopters drive me nuts even though they are much quieter. She does have a dragon herself, so it might simply be a: dragon sounds are fine, people screaming in shock are not.
