Bro, recently found your Channel and will be watching all new videos on a weekly basis, this is the first. You and many of the top guys make the same mistake of saying something is broken before proving that the item is broken, it's better to say that you have found a problem and that will lead you in a certain direction and follow your diagnostic path before saying something like the CAN lines are shorted together, they were not. I noticed your CAN Tool showed about 3V & 1.5V and you mentioned that was ok, I have never seen anybody say that was a good range. You are correct that the ABS module is at fault many times so why not go there early in the diag, yes it took some work to get to it but it did prove to be the problem based on your experience, and no need to check all the other things you checked, of course anything can happen but go with what you already know and go elsewhere when you prove your prior experience or a PATTERN FAILURE was not the fix this time around. I hope to see your CAN Tool in action in other videos as it did not WOW me in this video. Thank you for this case study and some component locations and the bit of Service Info.

Thanks for the reply! I love constructive criticism. Being that I work all makes and model and having a limited memory capacity as well as bad memory it's difficult for me to remember network topology for every make and model. When initially starting a diag such as this I start on the basics such is the vehicle getting power, any codes? Once I saw power next step no communication, next step, test CAN lines. As shown in the video the can lines were shorted together. When I removed the ECM connector because it was easy access the hard short went away. Most people would come to a reasonable conclusion the short is at that device. As I did. Sometimes everything is not as it seems. When dealing with a failed CAN device problems can be sporadic. I'm currently doing a diag on a Ford Focus where cables were jumped backwards and PCM brought down the network, no comms. however after disconnecting power everything came up including PCM but it was misbehaving, not responding properly nor shows DTCs. (Video coming soon). What I'm getting at just because a module changes behavior in the case grounding can lines does not prove it is NOT defective. In this case the PCM was defective and displayed different symptoms as times.(everything was not shown, but at some points the fans were on, at others pcm was also and fans off..) This can make a diag even more confusing. Either way the diag was not complete and I had to consult network topology where I discovered the PCM was a junction point also for another device, hence the conclusion.. 3V and1.5V on the CAN lines as shown I said looks good because of the refresh rate delay and the multimeters not necessarily being in sync you you can expect a variance on readings. a good CAN reading is 5V. From experience watching known good signals on this device I could tell even with the refresh rate (a bit less than 1 second) voltage was fine at that time. See the ULTIMATE CANbus tester shine here on this Mercedes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF7Lf6d4hpaaj8Usi=WKy5PVOest6DT9ec This video would have been 3 hours if everything was shown that was done. I did more tests offline but only edited the relevant parts.. Also not being able to get to a module can also make things difficult to "guess" or diag via trail and error. It was a job alone to get access to the ABS module. Also how things go with me, it usually gonna be the last item I check, I rarely get lucky on the first thing I check. Thanks for watching!

Excellent work. I have a 2010 Prius with failed communication with ECU UO100 and 00293 failed communication with Hybrid Vehicles control system. What are your thoughts on the cause? ABS controller?

it could be, you need to follow the troubleshooting steps as seen in the video
