***** Sorry fella, but you're well off on this one. Fair enough cycling went through some dark times, but you can't tar every pro athlete with the same brush, that's not on. I'm sure in whatever your profession is there will be people breaking the rules but we wouldn't assume that you are all as bad as each other.

Walsh has/had an unhealthy obsession with Armstrong. Armstrong was a doper NOT a serial murderer!!
@remi1176 Жыл бұрын
3 years late but I think Walsh's obsession was probably fuelled by the hate he was getting from the fans. Perhaps his determination to expose the doping was brought on by the negativity and gaslighting within the community... It's not uncommon for someone to develop unhealthy habits when in these stressful situations

Great stuff, Dave's book is a really good read. Can't wait for the rest of the segments & compare them to LA's version on Oprah next week!

I've been waiting or a really good interview with Walsh, looks like you guys are supplying it. This is a very exciting new channel that could be a breathe of fresh air in this now rather tarnished and mired sport. Keep up the great work. As far as Armstrong goes I don't think the lure was money, I think it was just his uncontrollable and ravenous ego. The fame, attention and adulation had become his crack cocaine and he had just become completely and utterly addicted to it.

Nice to hear a really good interview with David Walsh. He's helped massiely to bring this out into the open.

This is why you can't take things seriously in cycling. Walsh, a European based journalist, spends years trying to prove that Armstrong was doping. Yet no one investigated Indurain. No one wrote books about PDM, Festina, riders like Chiapucci, Delgado, Zulle, Rominger, Ulrich, Pantani, Roche, Alcala and a legion of others. Nor Mayo, Heras, Rasmussen, Contador, Valverde. And certainly not Froome or Wiggins. Only Armstrong provokes their curiosity.

as mr walsh says later in the interview, there are a lot of people who put their reputations and their futures on the line for the good of cycling when they spoke with him about L.A and they were vilified for many years after - how after L.A Confidentiel was released the UCI managed to sit idly by and do nothing, is beyond comprehension.

Lance Armstrong wins the lawsuits against him total about $45 million, but his net worth is $125 million so he still comes out a winner with $80 million... I'm sure if he could do it all over again he still would...

It's a shame that GCN has had to trade asking such probing questions for access to the peloton. We're left with what seems like performances that are just too good to be true and no one around to ask any questions about just how it's possible.

I have a question for you GCN - could you find out from Mr Walsh (or did you ask and do you already know), as to whether or not there are any plans to have L.A Confidentiel reprinted/published in the English language now that Mr Armstrong wouldn't be able to sue them for libel which, I believe, is the reason it was only ever picked up by a French publishing house. It's a great book but a bit tricksy to read when your French went no further than a day trip to Paris and GCSE :o) Cheers.

Looking back on this. Armstrong's MO was vicious ad hominem, as Walsh says. And it worked.

What a channel, Thank you. I think the priority for the whole cycling world must be exposing doping regardless names, countries, teams, money, etc. I hope the new UCI president set new disciplinary and technological policies and procedures to clean our beautiful sport. No mercy to cheaters. Additionally, I think titles and achievements must be striped from proved cheaters like Fignon, Delgado, Rooks, Pantani, Bugno, Virenque, Riis, Chiapucci, Heras, etc; they don't deserve glory.

It is not unusual for psychopaths to completely underestimate and overlook the people they use and abuse. After all that total lack of empathy for other people is what makes them psychopaths. To Armstrong, Landis was just a loser and a waste of space.

I know this video was from 11 years ago, but what about today’s (2024) TDF? Can we assume all the “Top Riders” are still doping? And did the UCI just quit testing riders, to save face? When Lance was doping and winning and brought in the American audience and all the millions of dollars in advertising revenue to the sport, the UCI looked the other way, they wanted all that money and exposure to the American market. So what about today? Is it still going on?

GCN doesn't have the balls to admit how great Lance was. Few people do, sadly.

Oke he toke dope but they all did. And when they all did take dope lance is still the best. For me he still won 7 tour de france. I hope dope will not be in the peloton any more. I also think when you take away the fictorys of lance you should also take away the victorys of ulrich, rish, Hinout, Merxx and all the other greats. They have all taken dope. Hinout will not be touch because he is french.
