Do you know that you can have it all in one gun if you start with a 27. Get akkam or other 9 mm conversion not 9 mm replacement barrel 9 mm allows you to shoot 9 mm with just a barrel change and a 9 mm magazine also, you can chew through p7 cig with just a through p7 barrel change and the use of a same 4357 magazine that came with your 40 gun. Handy to have if the kind of ammunition Shirley just that we've experienced in the past comes down the road again being able to shoot any of 3 calibers! 40 and 9mm have the SAME EXACT INTERNAL CHAMBER PRESSURE (about 36,000 psi). So all of "The 40 is such a high pressure round" crap is just that.……crap. The best 9mm self defense rounds are +p which drives up the chamber pressure way beyond 40. The 9mm +P+ are ridiculously higher than 40. So let's put that "high pressure 40" MYTH to bed now. Again, the best 9mm loads are MUCH HIGHER PRESSURE than 40. Also the best 40 defensive rounds have approx 25 % to 30% more energy than the 9mm with only about 8-10 % more recoil. That is achieved through the 40's higher slide mass (more steel/ strength) and higher spring rates which also slows the slide velocity (the stuff that actually wears out guns). So we can also put the "40 wears out guns faster" MYTH to bed. It's simply not true. The 40 has a larger frontal diameter and higher bullet weight than 9mm which are all goods thing. That's facts and the numbers don't lie. Buy a 40...it's simply better than 9mm at everything. Period.
@RidersRange2 жыл бұрын
Generally good info. Thanks for watching and commenting. A couple things to note: 1) SAAMI 9mm +P is 10% higher pressure than standard 9mm and .40S&W, but I haven't seen any published SAAMI pressure data for +P+. 2) the bare G26 slide is only 0.1 ounces lighter than the G27 bare slide, which isn't statistically significant. Finally, there are many folks who have a harder time controlling the recoil of a polymer frame gun that is chambered in .40S&W, which makes "better" subjective.
@GLOCKCOPG232 жыл бұрын
@@RidersRange Correct. 10% additional chamber pressure is significant. We reloader’s know this well. You will not find any SAAMI data on +P+ because they are generally considered dangerous out of guns not specifically designed for them. The slides on full sized 40 guns are typically slightly heavier to control slide velocity. On smaller guns, there is not as much “slide” to work with while keeping outside dimensions the same. Apparently a 1/10th ounce increase is the number the engineers came up with to control the slide velocity on the smaller guns……an obviously small but important number. Very interesting. Thanks for the kind words. Be safe.

I'm a little late, but it depends if you want a different cartridge or want to be interchangeable. For me, I prefer 9mm over 40 because 9mm is so ubiquitous, and the functional/performance differences are negligible. It's everywhere - the most common pistol caliber in the world, iirc (and correct me if I'm wrong). It also means you can use your existing G 19 (and G 17) mags. I typically carry my 17 in the city, can't trust that place, but only my 26 around my town. All my spare mags* are 17 mags because they'll work in any 9mm Glock I own except my single stack 43. *the magazines I keep ready to go - usually one on my person, one in my backpack, and one in the jeep. If I'm carrying my 43, which is rare, I have to remember to grab 43 mags out of my range bag or safe.

Kip, from my experience, just changing the barrel to 9mm doesn't work, unless you also change the recoil assembly, extractor and trigger group/ejector. I carried a G27 for 10 years without issue, but even putting a full factory G26 upper on it resulted in occasional reliability issues. If you want to carry that size Glock in 9mm, I suggest you buy a 26, rather than convert the 27.

The Glock 27 is pretty snappy. That is one of reasons people don't like it. They cannot handle the recoil and that is the reason a lot of LE and Mil are going to the 9MM. 40 isn’t going anywhere. Too many good guns out there (and still being made, obviously) for it to fade away. And many people like the higher performance of 40 over what 9mm can muster….even in the ridiculously over-pressured and abusive 9mm +P and +P+ variants. Stay safe out there.

Department policy (both departments I worked for over the course of 38 years) forbid carrying single-action pistols and my original department required a Glock 17 or 19, or a .38/.357 revolver. No exceptions. After an early retirement from my first department, I carried a G23 at my second career, then once I was driving a desk more than a patrol car, a G27. Once I retired and wasn't bound by department policy, I started carrying a 1911, or 1911-style pistol almost exclusively.
