Thanks. Yes, I handload for the 10mm. I don't carry the 10mm, so I've not investigated carry rounds. It's a very powerful round; consequently, there are some controversial issues about even carrying it for defense, other than in bear country or something. Any quality carry ammo should do just fine. I like Gold Dots.

Hello Greg and thank you for an endless supply of informative videos. I always reference you before I make a purchase. I'm a retired N.Y.P.D. Detective. I carry both the 19 and the 29. The 19 is by far the most on-point and enjoyable gun to shoot for me personally. The 29 is basically a hand cannon but will take care of any threat both 2 and 4 legged. I have to remind myself at the range, when using the 29, that I need to focus a bit harder and remember it's not the 19 by a long stretch....lol. I live in Florida now so depending on what I'm doing that day, will determine what I'm carrying. The 29 brings more power than a 357 Magnum or .45 acp and believe me, I know it as soon as I squeeze that trigger. ;) Thank you for this video. God Bless and continued success. -Patrick

Love this g29. I am not a glock guy, but I bought this gun for woods carry while I walk my dog through trails at my home. Put a few hundred rounds of various specs, and it fed flawlessly. I am a big guy, and it pocket carries very well for me with a sticky holster. The capacity and concealability are why I choose to carry this over my full size 1911 In 10mm, or my .357/.44 wheel guns. Enough power for bear repellant, but easy to carry in my pocket. Recoil is as you would expect of a compact 10mm, but not bad. My 11 year old son shoots it without a problem. As far as power and conceal, this is the best gun in its class. If you spend any amount of time with this firearm, you will soon learn its characteristics, and become comfortable with it.

I went to the range with a Glock 29 last week and after the first 5 rounds at ten yards, I only had two holes in the 10 ring and it looked like I missed with the other three shots. I brought in the target … it wasn't 2 bulls-eyes and 3 misses … it was 5 shots through two holes! I am thinking of selling the rest of my Glocks but I haven't been able to do it just yet. This is the only gun you need - you can hunt moose, defend against a Polar Bear, or shoot .40 JHP for personal defense - the world is yours.

Depending on where you're from, 9mm "should" be the easiest to find generally, and the least expensive; however, .40 is not that much more. The problem right now is that the availability and price situation is an aberration ( I hope!). You might not want to base your entire decision on today's situation.

Double Tap is a company that loads especially warm 10mm rounds. It probably sounds as though I shoot just a couple of them because of the power/recoil. IT's not that; it's that I don't wan't to waste expensive ammo on steel targets, unless a huge Wild Boar runs out of the woods and onto the range, of course! :-)

You know where the spent casing gets ejected, the rectangular hole on the top of the slide? It's usually blocked by the chamber hood, part of the rear of the barrel. That hood fits in there tightly and so it's pulled back with the rest of the slide until the front lug (one of the little wing-like projections under the barrel) is caught and driven down a ramp below that is part of the receiver. That makes it tilt and unlock from the slide, and also opens up the "hole" to eject the spent casing.
@hickok4515 жыл бұрын
Had a couple back in the '90's, but I found my Glocks easier to shoot well and eventually traded off my Sigs.
@hickok4514 жыл бұрын
@rbelena , Wow, if they are tumbling at 7 yards, there is a serious problem. The bullets would have to be WAY undersized, I think.
@janus205912 жыл бұрын
The barrel slants upward because Glocks, and most other semi-auto pistols use the Browning tilting barrel mechanism, found on the 1911. In a Glock, it is slightly different, and there are other variations, but the point is to disengage the barrel from the slide. This is a short recoil operated design, where the barrel only recoils with the slide for a short distance, but the slide keeps on going, ejecting the case and chambering another on the way back. The barrel tilts out of the way to unlock.

Actually, tried a few rounds in my G20, and it does work; however, it's not advisable. It puts added pressure on the extractor, I understand. There are probably other good reasons not to do it. It WAS interesting because the .40 cartridge felt like a .22 Long Rifle in the G20!

My guess is that if the G29 won't save you, the G20 won't either! :-) It should do as well as the G20. Testing shows that Glock barrels don't lose as much velocity in short barrels as do other, more conventional barrels. I've seen a couple of articles where this was tested.

All things considered, that is the right choice. I bought, when I found out it was a male birth, a S&W M-18 for him. Then at 12yrs., I purchased a Colt M-1911 series 70. Not all fathers are into doing this especially in a lar. city. I'd opt for the M-29, 10mmA (as I do) since if you need to carry it, it would be easier. Then I'd buy reloading eq. to reload this caliber (Dillon or Hornady). Start by loading it down to .40S&W specs. Shoot many to find your next purchase.

S&W 610(?) Revolver was/is chambered for 10mm, and it IS considered ".40 S&W friendly" - you can moonclip .40 rounds into the cylinder in lieu of 10mm.

@lethalweapon129 Tough question to answer because it depends. 10mm has more stopping power with the same type of round than a .45. Conversely, it also has a good bit more recoil and is harder to become proficient in. Take into consideration the cost of ammo being a good bit more than .45 and it makes sense for most people to stick to .45acp. Others however want the most stopping power possible and will go with 10mm. If you can do your own reloading and produce 10mm cheap, I say go for it.

God forbid you ever had to shoot a person, do you think over penetration is something to really be concerned with? I have a 29 that I carry everyday. I wanted a handgun that could do everything I needed it to, and I take the family into areas with large predators for recreation quite often. A friend of mine told me that it's irresponsible to use a 10mm because of over penetration and the chance of injury by-standers if I ever had to use it on a human. Is he correct?
@davidyee15 жыл бұрын
True that, i guess that's why the 9mm has been around for so long. Also larger, more exotic rounds are also more expensive, and not as common as a .22 magnum or .17 HMR. A little .22 LR pistol is all you need for protection against a mugging or an angry drunk, but a 9mm is better for a place where concealment and weight aren't an issue.

@eamonher I've looked into this myself also. From what I've read, the Winchester 175gr Silvertip and the DoubleTap 165gr round are loaded to there full potential for a 10mm round. Actually, I believe most all of the DoubleTap 10mm ammo is loaded pretty stout, but the 165 gr. seems to be the most lauded. Massad Ayoob has also said he uses the DoubleTap 165gr. in his 10mm. I've shot the Silvertips, and the gun is still well behaved and controllable for the power of the round.

With advancements in ammunition and bonded-hollowpoints, a 127 gr. 9mm +P+ is plenty effective. It's ALL I carry. Some 9mm loads have comparable muzzle energy to that of a standard 230 gr. .45 load believe it or not.
@lgassen23112 жыл бұрын
By reading these comments, it sounds like hickock45 needs to do a video on why the the 10mm can be so "powerful"! I consider .40 to be superior to.45 ballistically, and a 10mm cartridge is like a .40 with a longer casing, which translates to more powder/lead. I believe 10mm is one of the most powerful autoloading cartridges you can get in a smaller package. Can't wait to get a G29 or G29sf. Or maybe I just don't care for .45. haha

@corndoggydawg I'm no expert, but from what I understand the 10mm is a more powerful round and therefore requires a sturdier barrel (and spring, and slide), and therefore also a sturdier frame to hold it all together. In early days of the 10mm pistol parts would crack. If anybody has a better answer, pls correct if I'm wrong.
