+Prepper Bear from the 70s eh? Do you still drive a 74 chevy too? There is a reason the thumbs forward grip is the best. Biomechanic efficiency. Training advancements have come along way since the 70's, much like vehicles.

Bob Poli No..I drive a 76 Pontiac Trans Am 455. Also I can't stretch my left thumb forward due to getting it caught in an 8 track player when I was younger.
