I watch just about every Warhammer Weekly, so I'm a fan of the channel. One thing that is so endearing/entertaining to me about the channel is how well Vince embodies the spirit of "I'm not arguing, I'm just explaining why you're wrong."

Fellwaters are probably the most terrifying unit in the book even if they're not the strongest. Which makes sense because getting vomited on by a Fellwater would be an agonizing death. Lorewise even vomiting on a Mega Gargant's foot, he's running.

Lovely review as always, I'm super excited to play Gitz again after banging my head against the old book for years. This feels like a listbuilders dream, almost like the StD book. I have so much to tryout and it will be a blast. I think the incredible strength of the insane dmg numbers, rally and returning units will be heavily weighed against the low bravery/durability and fragile buff pieces. Sure you can rally 3 times but you also lose 5-6 more models from battleshock compared to bravery 10 units. The numbers the book can put out in term of dmg and durability sounds insane but then you have also spent 3-500pts in buffpieces to do these numbers and a lot of command points, so you can't do everything. Will have to wait and see what it can actually do. When points get adjusted (Skragrott, Squig Herd, Gobbapalooza etc up a bit, spiders down a bit) this book will be amazing for years to come. Also I think it was brilliant to make Squig Herd not be able to receive command points, makes the most toxic target of rally disappear and since there is no battleshock immunity left they will melt, probably to cheap anyway though for the massive amount of wounds you can get. Also, Searing white light is dumb from a spell portal, all GCs go boom.

As a former BoC player who had to put away the army because I was told rallying a single unit per hero phase on 4+ was broken and people didn't want to play against it; this is so very annoying. Rallying 3 units for zero CP is ridiculous! I remember Tom saying it was too powerful in BoC unless it was only for Gorherd but now doesn't think its too powerful on Squigs. I wait for the 'I told you so' from Vince on this one :)

I too am "concerned" by the 9" capturing of objectives, BUT if there has to be an army that fucks up the basic rules of the game, the calculations and the balance of battleplans layouts, then that army should be GSG. The bad moon spoke to me once!

Great review of the battle tome! Still pretty new to AoS and the Gitz (just finished painting around 2k points of squigs ... because I like the figs). A lot of the rants were interesting and got me thinking quite a bit. I do feel things are at least justified if not balanced at this point. 1/ Gitz have the very nice lose 1 / lose another (to battelshock) rule and lost all it s bravery immune rules. So a 4+ rally just means that you re getting back the models that just fled. Especially if you get 3 rally at least 2 had battleshock happen to these unit. Also makes sense as the gitz are sneaky, they don t die just lie there pretending, or if they fled they forget about it in an instant and can be rallied. 2/ Making Loonboss abilitie a modification on All out attack might prevent some shenanigans where 2 commands can be issued to the same units someday? Plus prevents the Herd from using it too. 3/ Fangs of The Bad Moon is basically the meteors from the Bad Moon so, yeah it can be powerful The only one that really does bother me as it does you is the shootas bows ... I mean how the heck do they have such a reach. Keep up the good work and thanks!

Is it me, or has the GG book embodies the power creep that 40k has been going through. Like they have a little bit of every ability and rule that has been introduced since the start of 3rd.

I don't know if it's power creep per se, they are certainly powerful, but some of it is just points, and those are easil enough adjusted.

About the Troggoths. I still find both having a use and not neccerly competing against eachother. The rockgut troggoths stack better with bonus attacks, like from the Troggboss & Sporesplattas for +2 attacks and +1 to hit, while Fellwater now stacks well with snufflers. I really like the idea of having like a 6-9man fellwater unit thats followed by snufflers, and a 6-9man rockgut troggoths followed by sporesplattas and troggboss. Alternativly skip snufflers all together, and have like 2x 9 rockgut troggoths with sporesplattas each, and each a 3man fellwater nearby to debuff enemy.

Dankhold Trogboss literally a better war leader than Arch-Revenants, the creatures purpose-created by the Goddess of Life herselfspecifically to rouse her forces and lead them into battle, all the while receiving her will directly through the spirit song. I don't know how I feel about this.

Loving the new movement on the squigs. Having a semi random element to keeps the fun when things go off but also gives a player a minimum element to plan into which is always nice. :)

Are there 4 positions for Da Bad Moon now or 5? It starts on the edge, then it moves to the first quarter, then to the middle, then to the other quarter. Does it then move to the edge or off the table?

A massive improvement in the book, don't play them but excited for my mates that do. I think there will be a degree of finesse in running a successful army, and may do better against some armies than others. I am now more curious about my idea of running an all Troggoth army which I've had since the new sculpts first came out. A couple of misses, and for the life of me, I can't understand why gigantic chitinous legs of an Arachnarok Spider cause 1 damage. What, are the ends of them made of marshmellow? I’m gona to try rolling heavy bricks of rock gutts. With buffs they do solid damage. Not a ton, but solid. The boss can buff 2 bricks of them and they also pair well with sporesplattaz which are cheap. Combine that with the fact that they are incredibly durable and I think they are a very well rounded unit that you can depend on to do work for you

The subfactions feel like Nighthant. Your army is effective built for you when you pick said subfaction.

I was very interested to see your take on this, as my experience with Gitz prior to this book is tangential at best. I'm with Vince in that mass 4+ Rallying of scrolls like Squig Hoppers is pretty strong. Definitely agree with Tom that the lack of +casting is an issue to work around. I also find myself drawn to the fully souped combat Mangler. Very impressed by Rockguts and Fellwaters as well. Skragrott also just seems like such an auto-include that I don't think we'll see a tournament list without him. Overall, happy for the Gitz-loving crowd, as this army seems legitimately tournament-playable.

General question. With all the random movement for the Squigs how do you work a spell or endless spell that works off movement such as Ravenacks gnashing jaws. do you roll when it is hit with the spell or before so they know where to move it? I think we should expect some point increases and nerfs or "clarifications" to come through decently fast if this book rockets past 55% win rate. I think Loonking should go up at least 40 and gobapolooza to become unique. Just starting Gitz going all squigs i'm happy they finally got a good book that should bring them up to other books. The Johnny in me loses a bunch of motivation with the perceived power of this book from several reviews i've listened to. I'm hoping going single "clan" and not busting out the loonking or some of the other real powerful combos will make it a bit more tolerable until they get balance updates. I bought 2 of the squigalanches since the deal was pretty good. While i wish they had 1 less mangler for more hoppers or herds i still think it is a good start. I'm currently unsure if i should get more herd or more hoppers/bounders. i'm leaning towards more hoppers/bounders as they seem real fun and go with an almost all mounted squigs list.

How does the grand strat chase the moon interact with the effects that make an aura of the moon (Skragrott, malevolent moon, loonshrine)? Based on the wording just sitting your general near one of these and keeping him alive is enough to score it. Also since Skragrott is a warmaster does he just autocomplete it if you keep him alive, or would he need to be your only general for that to work?

Played against Gloomspite troggs yesterday with my Ogres and the durability was insane. My Stonehorn charged into MSU Trogs three times over the game, and each time he failed to remove the unit. +1 save from the moon on top of an upgraded 4+ save, regen, and coming back from the shrine for their price is crazy.

Roll priority ! Oh no i forgot to do the bad moon? In a tournament setting will compotatoes a) politely invite the opponent to roll for the bad moon after having seen the priority roll or b) explain to their opponent that it's too late now that the priority roll has been determined ? As for rallying being too strong, it is. We would hope that GW had learned the lesson since the win rate of Beasts of chaos after the WD update....The thing is, it's one of GW's current "design spaces" they're not going to give less rally, they're going to balance it (lol) by giving it to more armies. We can expect full armies of squig units exploding, causing mortal wounds, then rallying back and doing it again, all game. It's silly, but it'll sell models. Until the inevitable FAQ which states squig units cannot benefit from rally.... Heroic actions, this is also one of GW's new design spaces, so like book battle tactics, every new book is going to get them. Yes old books are going to look even worse, but this has always been the way they've "updated" battletomes. It gives me flashbacks to Bretonnia archer stakes....Did it mean that Dwarfs and Elves that had been around for millennia had never thought of something so simple ?? Ossiarch bone boys are the victims of this since AoSv3 Honestly I've gone from being worried that the next Khorne book is going to be a boring dud (like the V2 tome) to being an overpowered steamroller. Between heroic actions, blood tithe, summoning, and I suspect there will be some rally bonus as the Khorne units refuse to die until they've killed enough...

When I saw that 9" rule on the Stabbas, my first thought was: That is super strong and potentially super dangerous for the game. My second thought was: Isn't this kinda what Vince wanted for Gitz? To be able to get victory points despite being lore-appropriately weak? :D Overall, I am really happy for Gitz that they finally got a nice book. There are a few rules that don't jive with me and Skagrott should cost 190-200 points imo. (He is too much of an auto-include at the current cost.) But otherwise, can't really complain.

Love the new book, the combination of kings gitz, clammy hand, and triple 4+ rally seems like it could be a tough list to chew through. The book has good mixed play, and troggs, grots and squigs all seem to have good play in their silos too. Its a shame spiderfang still has basically no output though (supa nasty venom is the only way to try to build a hammer).. Skitterstrands don't even average 10 damage vs a 4+ save (including stomp) so they can't even break screens effectively. The utility spiders got is amazing, but without the damage they're relegated to supporting the other factions.

The spiders monstrous action should have been like 3+ unit gets -1 to hit. Or 3+ +1 to hit for the spider and or all units attacking the ensnared thing. War party's aren't elite so they can't issue orders to themselves same with skitterstrand. Would have been nice to have a +1 floating around.

The heroic action says you can immediately issue the rally Command, so what’s stopping you from rallying normally beforehand? This would override the core rules IMO. Also, Leadership of the Alpha for 6 rallys?…

They skinked squigs. Too many synergies, if you jack points you lose the horde of dumdums aesthetic. I hope to see most of the bonuses like snufflers and mushroom pouch be once per game instead of on demand.

Frankly, I would rather the loonboss's stab em good was just, a passive aura. It is in no way good enough to compete with all our attack as a command, but honestly I think it would be fine if he pointed to an enemy unit within, say, 12 or 18 inches and had all moonclan units within 12" of him have that ability of 6's proc mortal wound in addition. Same idea, less stupid "yes and" stuff

Stab Em Good is an ability that enhances all out attack. When he issues all out attack you get the +1 to hit AND the mortal wound buff simultaneously. So it’s not competing with all out attack.

I'm not sure this one is really out of bounds besides a few small issues and some points movements.

I'm suprised at the amount of "this doesn't fit the narrative" argument in this review. The "narrative" can be as flexible as you need it to be, and frankly you're more likely to accept things you like mechanically even if their narrative is bad. I like shooting armies, and yes the Gits will be a tough nut to crack for passive shooting armies. But armies that use shooting as support for a more aggressive approach will have a lot less trouble with them. If you don't get to rally between the shooting and the stabbing, that rally is a lot less useful. Yes they can bring back a unit a turn, but there are armies that can potentially lift 2 blocks of 60 gits in a turn. In other words there are scary counters to the scary goblins.

Well, there isn't much shooting, even entire armies that are going to do 140 wounds in a turn, which is what it would take to lift 2 goblin units if one of them has the 5+ ward. Also, I am a big stickler that the narrative isn't infinitely flexible. Your own personal narrative? Sure, that can be whatever you want. But the armies? No, those have a space they exist in, a theme, a vibe, a story, otherwise, if all of the narratives are ex post facto explanations, they are pointless and worthless.

@@VinceVenturella The themes for the army are there - hordes of goblins with crazy stuff jumping out, swarms of squiggs with their (finally good rules) random movement, and big dumb trolls as brutes. The narrative you want to apply for a rule in your head (eg the Loon Boss' command) is flexible, and your argument against the Loon Boss in particular is purely narrative - you fixated on that idea as tactical acumen, but that's a narrative choice you are making. I agree that passive (castle) build armies will struggle with lifting 140 wounds (with a 5+ ward) of goblins from the board. But active armies, like IDK, not so much. But, as was pointed out in the stream a proper horde army that provides a solid counter to castle builds of elite units isn't a bad thing for the game as a whole. We'll also see how many people build swarms of 120 goblins to even make that an issue. Goblins still will not like their squishy heroes being zapped off the board with spells and other effects, and big blobs can be blocked from moving effectively via a few means in the game. Yes goblins have gone from a generally trash "haha" army to a strong competitive choice - but that's good - and gives me hope for Slaanesh (an army that may well end up a good Goblin counter) as it looms closer.

@@VinceVenturella Best save in the book 4+ on heroes, shields do nothing, your melee troop goblin has a 5+ save and archers 6+. With as much rend shooting out there, you will simply be picking up your models while your opponent gets to feel good about themselves. Even the new wolves (which everyone raves about), other than being fast are just going to get red misted.

@@jonathandavidmonroepelosi2716 Oh you're saying they're too bad? I was assuming you meant the other direction. Most people's fear is that they are broken. Blocks of 60 troops respawning half their losses each round (same for squigs), shooting units with 120 -2 or -3 rend shots, massive amounts of automatic mortal wounds. They are very strong (maybe too strong). You may want to look again.
