Only 8 minutes in, just got done reading the articles. Maybe you talk about it, but im officially hyped for Spearhead. Spearhead seems really well thought out, and like they are gonna support it. It doesnt feel like the tacked on thing like combat patrol was for 40k.

Splitting a box with a skaven friend. I'm rather... Underwhelmed by the stormcast but I was planning on heavily modding them or even just using them as conversion bits. Skaven side is great though. Most of all I just want the core book and indexes to drop asap so I can try 4e Lizzies and Tzeentch, my favourite things Warhammer since 6th edition WHFB.

So I love everything I saw. I'll be looking to try and sell my Skaven (much like your view on KO, Vince, I feel the same way about Skaven; I love that they are in the game and think they're one of the most important and "Warhammer" of the factions in existence, but I feel no desire to collect them) but I'm excited for everything else. Tentatively, my thought on the Spearhead cards in Matched Play is to get two of them instead of three each turn and then you have two left over. I'd have to see them all to make that firm decision, but I think that's the direction I'm looking to try.

My excitement for this is immense! Haven't been into AoS properly in like 2 years aside from painting and watching this show. With this box I'm gonna start playing again and getting really into the game once again. I feel like the game is gonna be in a really exciting place!

I think regarding the more 'weathered' scheme the painters talked about was more in comparing the Knight Questor armour vs the Ruination stuff - the Questor is far more vibrant, brighter silver armour, more saturated cloak etc. compared to the more black-steel of the ruination chamber. But I am really looking forward to seeing some proper rust and weathering on the ruination chamber :)

Yeah. Liberators & Questor are Warrior Chamber so are fresher(Only have a few centuries under their belts) and brighter heroes. Ruination are the cautionary tale of what those brighter heroes might become if they abuse their gifts and can’t shoulder the burden of immortality and so are darker all over from tarnished armor to chainmail replacing some of their broken heroic plate. But yeah future paint jobs are gonna look sweet for both the grittier hollowed souls varieties and the stuff that leans into their vibrant champion demigods flair.

The Grey Seer is truly Skaven perfection. As for the mounted Clawlord, I was immediately thinking of swapping the head for one of the clawlord heads with a helmet... Otherwise cool mini though.

You have single-handedly made me excited for a new AoS launch box! New Skaven, Spearhead being a legitimately supported format, and some of the flatness we’re seeing in 40K are putting me on the edge of my seat for this box. One thought regarding Spearhead - while I agree that they should have made at least 15 cards for the full game use, I think it’s not bad to look at the cards as a scarce resource in the full game and having to ration them a bit rather than just having 3 cards per turn every turn. I like the idea of having more cards than you can use adding some imperfect information to the game, but in light of not having that, having to more strategically plan the use of cards over multiple turns might be an interesting twist to the concept. Just a thought. 😁

Why I really LIKE the fancy gatling cannon the way it is: you have this super advanced weapon system, extremely high-tech (for AoS)... but it gets pushed into battle by lowly footsloggers... and this constrast really appeals to me. It highlights the extremes in Skaven warfare and approach to their weapons so well: damage output is everything, the rest can fall apart or be carried by slaves, we don't care.

I’d like to think that AMG with the Marvel Crisis Protocol and Shatterpoint core sets influenced GW when it comes to core box design. The box includes everything you need for a game plus some terrain. The value ceiling of this core set is amazing

I like the new Rat Ogors but they do indeed look quite similar to Stormfiends (I thought they'd be huge but looking at the pictures, they might still be on the same base size as the current ones?). I really wish they would reveal the rest of the new Skaven and tell us if Allies will still be usable or not (if it'll be only Regiments of Reknown that are now usable and such). It's been a few months where I'm debating which armies to keep, if I trade all of the allies I have, if I wait and not buy any other, etc.

The skaven would have excited me more if it did not hit similar enough beats to the kruelboyz from dominion: big cheese on scrawny beast, 3 sharpshooters, and hella chaff. But overall, pleased with this launchbox for people who will pick it up. The inclusion of terrain was a pleasant and welcome surprise

I'm super excited about both the full game and Spearhead. SPEARHEAD will be the go-to game I believe at our local game store after watching the "special" event game. The Release box seems to be very balanced for the new player. Seems I will own a full Stormcast army now as currently on issue 18 of a Hachette sub. Skaven will be a spearhead option, I guess... they will be fun to paint for sure. maybe I'll do painting lessons with my daughter with them. All and all We are super stoked about 4.0 and will be at the Tampa US open for our first tourney.

The new Stormcast models are awesome, but honestly having 4500 points of my Stormcast collection squatted has pretty much killed all my enthusiasm for the new models and the army as a whole in the new edition.

I think I’m most excited about the Lore section of the core book as in ‘in character’ artifact. After the killed my entire Stormcast army (second Ed. Stuff) I lost enthusiasm so I won’t be buying the box but I’ll probably eBay a copy of the core book to read.

I think the GHB cards are there to get people who don’t play either army to buy the box. Can’t do competitive match play without them, and I’m sure they won’t release them for quite a while after the launch box. The last thing they want is a repeat of Dominion. Luckily, I don’t care and there is no way in hell I’m buying this box. I do like the rat minis a lot, but I don’t play either army and I think Spearhead is going to be fun to play approximately 0-1 times.

Can we talk about that AU price though. As today it is 1 pound Gbps is $1.90 Aud so 160 pounds is $303.89 Aud so where is that $150 Aud going. $150 AUD is $99.97 USD for all the Americans so it isn't a small chuck of change to get slapped with for living in a different country.

I'm in Aus and pretty disappointed with the 'Tax' we pay for GW products. There will be shipping costs, etc. that need to be accounted for, but it's hard not to feel like we're being gouged.

I expected to like the Skaven based on all the previews, I did not expect to like the Stormcast as much as I do. I am not totally convinced by the Liberators, but the characters are super nice. From the Skaven side the Clanrats and the Jezzails are highlights for me.

While I am hyped for AoS 4 in general (jumping into the game for the first time), I'm not that interested in the models as I'm building a Seraphon army in readiness. My question I guess is, historically how long have we had to wait for the smaller boxes with all the books and cards but fewer models to come out after a new big army box launch? Buying the core rulebook, the spearhead book and the generals cards separately probably won't be a cost efficient entry to the game?

Lord-Terminos, Reclusions, Memorians... Stormcast names are so bad. I was expecting more Ruination Chamber then were getting. And was a bit disappointed seeing Spearhead being played. Warcry size boards are fine for two squads of 8-10 guys (and even then, often don't even all start on the board) but seeing the bigger Spearhead forces on there just didn't have me excited

Love the new jezzails, ogres, and the warpfire ratling machine thingy. Claw lord also is fab on his mutated rat ride! I’m a bit meh on the seer and the clanrats, but only because the existing miniatures are fine. The engineer is a bit odd, he’s a spotter rather than an engineer…waiting to see how versatile he might be with any other skryre units and he appears to have lost his spell casting ability. Regardless I’ll be getting the launch box they’ll be joining my team! Well the Stormcast won’t, they’ll join team eBay!

Weird coincidence Vince, only yesterday I was listening to actress and stand up comedian here in the UK Bridget Christie talk about the same condition with holes making her feel sick. I had never heard of it before, apparently it particularly affects artists.

Feels bad that I'm saying this but here goes. I've only painted a couple of stormcast, and aside from the new liberators, I didn't realise how many of these new models are female, or at least wearing female armor pieces, until it was pointed out in this stream. The front-and-centre reclusian reveal had female armour, the front-and-centre prosecutor reveal had female armour, and 2/3 of the revealed prosecutors have female armour. But other than the armour, nothing reads obviously female about these models, including the heads, which is as far as I can tell is a departure from previous models. I suspect the majority of people will read these as male models, and buy the box not knowing otherwise. There are comments on the reveal YT videos, and in reddit threads such as "he looks cool", etc. GW even hit love themselves on one such comment! The only mentions of them being female I found are a couple of replies to correct the people who assumed they are male. I'd love to say this doesn't bother me but it does. Most buyers will have no clue these models are female (or at least wearing female amour or whatever GW think they're achieving here). I've been looking at these models for a while and have only just realised myself, and well, I feel somewhat gaslit, and my desire for the new models has now gone. I'm willing to bet that the 99% of buyers would want their supposedly male and female models to read somewhat obviously as such. I'm all for more model diversity for inclusive and aesthetic reasons, but this... ain't it. A part of me wonders if this is a deliberately planned and insidious move on GW's part (to normalize androgenous modeling, because it's easier and pleases no-one and everyone). But perhaps more likely (and I sincerely hope this is the actual reason), it's a shoddy late-stage modeling adjustment along the lines of, "Oh whoops we need more female models... umm, swap for female chest pieces and BAM!".

The books and such are going to a friend that wants them and I have some Stormcast stuff and want to start a new army of then, I'm thinking about getting a Skaven army. Just not sure how good the clan rats and rat ogors are, would you want that many clan rats and rat ogors? Really like the look of all the stuff though.

I dont like to be negative - and if you enjoy the models then great! but the new stormcast don't do it for me. They have a lot of bojangles which just seem a chore to paint. The main issue is where they are placed -often around waist or knee level on most of these models. My first impression of these new minis were at crotch height rather than faces and weapons etc. Take the box art lord veritant - if a new player was to emulate this scheme (which a lot of new players will do) - they'll be painting mail, a hilt, 3 types of leather, a gem, and the plate armour, and that is literally just the waste area, Thunderstrike became popular because they were simplified - easy to paint but still beautiful miniautres. This feels like the issue we had with early stormcast just repeated dont get me wrong - beautiful models and I will be buying them, but I'm not sure they're the best models to be pushing to new painters - and Im not sure this is a better aesthetic than what we had before (either in Sacrosanct or the simpler thunderstrike)

I've given away my SCE from the 2nd and 3rd ed boxes because they just had no character to me at all and I was disinterested. The Skaventide SCE sculpts, however, feel so human. They look desperate, ragged, like veterans who have been reforged over and over again. Maybe GW is pulling a meta-joke on us by releasing them as golden Sigmarines, and then slowly releasing more dire sculpts. Who knows. I like this show, and I like Vince. 👍

Rats are spectacular. Launch box has too many clanrats for my taste, but the models themselves are 10/10 no comments. As for Stormcasts - I am not sure what bores me about it. Is it models themselves, or just boring-ass color-scheme? Cold blue and white with grey steel? Blah. Overall army impression is 'sea of grey' to me. Normally I LOVE Stormasts. Both chonky ones and Dominion ones. But none of these new ones interest me at all. And I do not understand why. I hope youtubers who get them early will paint them literally any other color, so I can understand if it is sculpts themselves or just the colors. As of now, there's no way I'm replacing my chonky liberators, prosecutors and questors with those.

Why does GW insist on putting two armies in what is essentially NOT a real 2-player box? Wouldn't it be better to have a Skaven edition and an Stormcast edition, each containing their respective models, a rule book and army specific warscroll cards? They could even include more models, OR....wait for it.....keep the current count per army and LOWER THE PRICE POINT. Its truly baffling.

This is me and my love for the oldhammer esthetic but some of these new Skaven look too serious/grimdark. They're moving away a bit too much from the comic relief element. Saying that, NEW SKAVEN!!!

Hmm? No mark up -- just currency exchange rates. Throw £240 into Google and convert it into AUD and it's 455.94...so it's actually cheaper than the exchange.

Both sides are boring. Games workshop having second thoughts about making AoS a visual departure from fantasy, and instead turning back to traditional designs, is boring. The skaven are whatever and the engineer is awful.
