Glorious GMMK Pro | Sound Test with JWK Seal Linear Switches, Polycarbonate Plate

Hey everyone! Here is a sound test for the GMMK Pro as configured from my livestream build on April 28th, 2021. No additional mods were made to the board apart from swapping the aluminum plate with the polycarbonate one, and the cleaning + re-tuning of the stabilizers.

Dang, the keyboard has that nice pop sound to it, I think all I can suggest is to do the holee mod the those stabs :)

Agreed. The stabs are definitely the crappiest thing on the board. I think I'm going to try to do the holee mod for the full review video!

Only my spacebar stab was awful by default. Whoever did the 2Us actually did a decent job, but I wiped them off and redid them anyway. I've been using the aluminum plate, but I don't like aluminum plates. I hope they eventually do copper or titanium, or I can find someone who cuts them. However, I was watching videos trying to figure out if the PC plate was worth the 20 bucks. Well, worth the shipping. I really love the GMMK. It's certainly a better starting point than what Drop, Kono, and other mass produced starter kits offer. I've only modded my stabs and I am using Alpaca v1s and it sounds wonderful as is. I definitely recommend.

Hey, loved your livestream of this keyboard! After watching many reviews, they say that the case gives every switch around the same sound? So I was looking at getting NK65, KBD67 or the ikki68 aurora but all of the group buys are done so I'll be waiting for the next. Do you have any recommendations for other boards or which one you prefer of those?

Thanks! I would agree that the GMMK Pro 'flattens' the sound profile of switches for sure. Unfortunately I have no experience with any of the keyboards you are looking at so I can't provide any sort of recommendation. I'd like to try all of the one you mentioned at some point though! 65% form factor is great.

Just think of it as a beta test. First batch usually has flaws anyway, and it was created to be readily available in the future. I managed to get one 1st batch and I like it, but it's definitely not perfect.

Would you recommend someone to go for the GMMK pro or the regular GMMK for their first build with tactile switches (either holy or glorious pandas still haven't decided after an entire week of listening to sound tests..), and what material plate would produce the greatest sound quality for tactile ones?

Regular GMMK is significantly cheaper, but only offers 3-pin support for switches. If you're getting GPs which are 3-pin, you could go with the regular GMMK if you want to save some money. I believe Holy Pandas are also 3-pin. Personally if it's your first build and want to go with TKL and you're looking for a budget option - go with the Keychron K8 hot-swappable instead. Regarding plates, sound quality is so subjective so I can't really comment on that. In my testing so far though I've personally enjoyed the PC plate more on the Pro.

My only gripe with the Keychrons is that they have no software for their products, and I have not found their appearance or build quality - I might be wrong. The only thing delaying my build is finding the best material for my case as I recently found out that they make a huge difference in sound and I can't seem to find affordable alu cases that wont cost me a kidney. Thank you once again!

What mods did you do to it? Like foam removable, screw removal?? Or something else.

Hey! No mods apart from swapping for a polycarbonate plate. Switches were lubed + filmed, and the stabilizers were cleaned and then re-lubed with Krytox 205g0. I'm planning on fiddling more for the full review video which should be out in the next couple of weeks.

I watched your stream and you said gmmk pro has the bad sound in all of keyboard you had try :(. Can you compare Gmmk Pro and id80, kdb67?

What is the advantage of Polycarbonate plate compare to the Alu or Brass plate ? :D thanks

Its in the feel of the board. PC plates are supposed to be more forgiving and better for linears (generally). Alu/Brass are stiffer materials and will be a stiffer typing experience. This is my first board with a more flexy plate material so I wanted to give it a try to see what it was all about!
